Hi any Gransnetters around Nottingham who'd like to meet?

mazgoli Mon 25-Nov-19 22:00:23

Wow! You moved a long way away. Ruddington's lovely.

HappyAmI Tue 26-Nov-19 09:43:34

Hi all, sorry only just seen all these messages, for some reasons my notifications are not coming through.

I can't do this week, away from tomorrow till Saturday and working today. Next week my husband is having surgery (already postponed twice by QMC) so I think I may have to leave meeting till January.

Does the afternoon of 14 January suit you all? In Rudd or city centre?

mazgoli Tue 26-Nov-19 10:07:37

14th January works for me. All the best to your husband, hope all goes well.

Marelli which rec did you live near when you were growing up?

It used to be Mazgoli but way too overpopulated now.

Marelli Tue 26-Nov-19 12:28:01

Willynilly, I used to play at the Elms Park rec. ?
DH and I are coming down in the Spring for a wee nostalgic visit for me as it's going to be my 70th. I'm on the Rudd Facebook site, and I see how many changes there have been - as you said to Mazgoli, it looks far too overpopulated now.

SalsaQueen Tue 26-Nov-19 22:17:40

Willynilly I've always lived in Nottingham (born and bred) but have never spoken like that grin. I loathe the word "mardy" as well - it's a made-up word, I think.

kittylester Wed 27-Nov-19 07:25:30

We pass through Ruddington every time we go to Nottingham. DH and DS are Forest Supporters so pass through regularly!

Mardy is a fabulous word!! Really descriptive! We used it in Derbyshire, where I grew up, and it is commonplace in Leicestershire where I have lived for 50 years.

Willynilly Wed 27-Nov-19 07:52:51

It was tongue in cheek SalsaQueen, I was born in Ruddington and I don't speak like that either but I do use some of the colloquialisms.

Kittylester mardy is a great word imo as are some of the other Midlands words/sayings and well worth keeping alive. smile

dragonfly46 Wed 27-Nov-19 07:56:45

We used mardy in Yorkshire!

kittylester Wed 27-Nov-19 08:12:54

I said it on the phone to a young man in Bexhill on Sea who asked what it meant- I was stumped - it means mardy!!

mazgoli Thu 28-Nov-19 07:36:23

'Mardy' was new to me when I moved here from Exeter, as was 'mithering'.

Willynilly Thu 28-Nov-19 07:48:01

Mazgoli have you come across "stands need" yet? Or heard "sh'intin". smile

mazgoli Thu 28-Nov-19 08:48:38

Neither of those! And I've been here 25 years!

Willynilly Thu 28-Nov-19 09:20:32

"She isn't in" (sh'intin). Lots of examples like this as we tend to run words into each other.
Stands need is used disparagingly when a person does something they really shouldn't be doing, usually out of their earshot!

NotSpaghetti Thu 28-Nov-19 09:27:30

Mardy is used in Lancashire too.

kittylester Thu 28-Nov-19 10:23:22

I've always been aware of mithering.

I’m in Nottingham, I work Tuesday & Wednesday, would love to meet up in January. I still meet my friends at the Lions when we meet up smile

mazgoli Tue 03-Dec-19 20:35:51

Fabulous. We're going to try to meet up on 14th January.

Georgedog Tue 03-Dec-19 20:52:06

I’d also be interested. @SalsaQueen do you ever visit the Bonnington Theatre in Arnold ?

SalsaQueen Tue 03-Dec-19 22:10:55

Georgedog I've been a few times. I live about 10 - 15 minutes' walk from there.

HappyAmI Sun 08-Dec-19 09:02:09

Can you please say if you are free on 14th January? And city centre or Ruddington.

mazgoli Sun 08-Dec-19 12:09:54

I'm free, city centre or Ruddington I don't mind.

Georgedog Sun 08-Dec-19 20:58:40

City centre if possible. Hope I don’t offend anyone but would anyone like to connect on Facebook before we meet ?

SalsaQueen Sun 08-Dec-19 23:09:59

Georgedog I've sent you a private message

SalsaQueen Sun 08-Dec-19 23:10:49

HappyAmI. Yes, I'll be free that afternoon. City centre.
