We could get a date set for a Burns lunch, and a list started by the New Year. Are there any dates that are NOT possible for those who would like to come?

Marelli Wed 08-Jan-20 12:05:55

I can't come ?. It's DD's ex mother-in-law's funeral, and I must go to it.
Ina will still come though, and although Lurkio has a hospital appointment at 10.10 in Kirkcaldy, she's hoping to get to Edinburgh in time.
I'm so disappointed to miss it. ☹️

Elegran Tue 07-Jan-20 10:16:39

Oh, yes, you don't want to miss week two - you won't be far enough into it all to easily pick up again. Next time!

Jane10 Tue 07-Jan-20 07:27:04

I am an idiot. I went to put the lunch in my diary and found that, d'oh, I'd completely forgotten that I'd signed up for classes on Mondays at 1.30. The 20th will only be week 2 so I'm loath to miss it. Very sorry. See you next time.

Thanks Elegran, can't be helped, I'm sure you will all have a lovely meet and meal. We took some English friends there recently whilst sightseeing and had lovely food which made its appearance on FB!!
See you at the Glesca Grannies rerr terr!

Jangran In the scribbles on my magic A4 calendar, it seemed that you were also available on the 20th and that somehow we had managed to get a day that suited everyone, but on looking again I see that it is not to be! I am sorry about that - but there will be another meet up in a month or so, and I am sure we will see you then. Have a nice time at the get-together. We will think of you.

If Monday the 20th suits everyone else then go for it. Unfortunately that is out for me (Mum's anniversary, 6 bros and sisters get together!) I know how impossible it is to find that one magic date Elegran

Thanks for your patience Elegran grin

Elegran Mon 06-Jan-20 18:56:43

I have asked whether they can have haggis neeps and tatties on the menu, as it is so near to the 25th.

Elegran Mon 06-Jan-20 18:55:38

I have emailed them to ask for a booking for 12 (approximately) at 1 pm on the 20th, as that seems the best day for everyone. When I get a reply I shall post on the thread.

I will have to confirm numbers with them a couple of days before the booking.

baubles Mon 06-Jan-20 18:39:47

Me again. Can’t do Friday 24th, not enough notice to cancel my volunteering.

GeminiJen Mon 06-Jan-20 16:25:26

All OK with me too, Elegran.....And a belated Happy New Year!
I was offline over Christmas and New Year tchsmile wine wine wine
Now trying to catch up grin

Jane10 Mon 06-Jan-20 15:37:22

All OK with me so far.

Elegran Mon 06-Jan-20 15:29:35

Back to the drawing-board! grin I'm glad I noticed that!
We are left with Monday 20th and Friday 31st. Oh, and Friday 24th seems to be free.
I am inclined to try the Monday first.

Grammaretto Mon 06-Jan-20 15:28:08

Elegran . You are a star!

baubles Mon 06-Jan-20 14:58:42

Eek no I CANNOT do Monday 27th, it was supposed to say 28th. Sorry.

Elegran Mon 06-Jan-20 14:54:50

At the moment, the possible days are -
Monday 19th (and possibly 27th)
Tuesday 28th
Friday 31st

The closest to Burns night is Tuesday 28th (assuming 27th is one of Baubles' No's). How does that sound? I'll check availability very soon.

Elegran Mon 06-Jan-20 14:47:10

Do you really mean "free on 27th" Baubles ? because you say just before that "Can’t do Monday 27th either" ?

baubles Mon 06-Jan-20 14:33:34

I’d love to come but I seem to have so many dates filled.

I can’t manage any Thursday due to childminding duties, Wednesday is my afternoon with the other GC, I volunteer on Fridays but can take a day off as long as there’s a decent amount of notice. Can’t do Monday 27th either. I’ll come along if I can, these are my free days around Burns Day - 20th 21st 27th 31st.

Jane10 Sun 05-Jan-20 11:24:02

?

Elegran Sun 05-Jan-20 11:04:49

Thank you all those who have replied. It is narrowing down now. Any more days to avoid? Anyone to add to the list?

Watch this space.

Elegran Sun 05-Jan-20 10:56:02

That sounds useful when everyone is there in person, Jane I have tried a Facebook app, but not everyone is on Facebook, so it wasn't entirely successful.

I mostly use the back-of-an-envelope system. I have printed out a calendar page for January on A4. When some one says a date is impossible I put their initials on that day with a cross, and when someone strongly prefers a specific date, their initials have a tick on that day. At some (arbitrary) point I cross out all the completely impossible days and am left with a couple of possibles. The worst-case scenario is that there are NO days possible for everyone, as has happened. Then, I put the most popular (or least unpopular) days in a hat and pick one.

Jane10 Sun 05-Jan-20 10:26:00

Whe trying to fix dates for meetings we used to use a thing called a 'Doodle'. People ticked dates they could attend and the date that suited the majority was easily discerned.

Jangran99 Sun 05-Jan-20 09:13:39

I can make 21/23/24 of Burns week and any day the following week except Wed 29th. I prefer Fridays but not exclusively. Thank you Elegran

Fiachna50 Sun 05-Jan-20 08:31:30

Bump

Marelli Sun 05-Jan-20 06:54:06

We three seem to be fine with any date, Elegran.
Lurkio
Ina
Marelli.
