We could get a date set for a Burns lunch, and a list started by the New Year. Are there any dates that are NOT possible for those who would like to come?

Grammaretto Sat 04-Jan-20 22:42:23

I would prefer not 21st or 22nd but probably could make Thurs 23rd or Fri 24th. The following week is okay at the moment!

It gives it a good flavour, unless you overdo the prunes, which make it oddly sweet. Half a dozen to a pot of soup is plenty.

My Granny always added a prune to Cockaleekie soup. That was just a step too far for the Polish chef but he tried hard to cover how mad he thought I must be!

I put a small amount of chopped prunes in my cockaleekie (or turkeyleekie) soup. Is that a traditional Scottish thing, or just my invention? I've done it so long that I don't know.

Cranstons Polish chef was very helpful about Burns lunch last year. He had a jolly good go a Cockielee soup! I've never seen so many leeks in one bowl before! He did well with the haggis neeps and tatties too. Pudding was just not possible for me after that but it looked pretty good.
I think you were ill and couldn't come?

The first thing I need is to choose a date or a few dates and then see whether I can book at the Cranston for then. I can guess at numbers and change them up to the last minute.

So far I have a few dates to avoid, but it is not narrowed down to a small number of possiblities. I have bumped the thread now that the holiday season is over, to see if anyone else gives me more dates to cross off. Tomorrow evening I shall make an executive decision and book something then we'll see who will definitely be there.

How many do you need before you make a decision Elegran?

Thanks ?

Marydoll Tue 17-Dec-19 11:53:30

We bump to keep the thread active. smile
Unlike me, some people aren't on everyday, blush so may miss the thread.

Elegran Tue 17-Dec-19 11:53:02

You could post anything at all, but "bump" is what you want to do to it, and it saves having to think of something to say.

Elegran Tue 17-Dec-19 11:50:44

Because the threads are displayed in the order "the most recently posted-on goes to the top" and even posting a single word bumps the thread up above the others. It makes sure that the thread is seen and doesn't slide down the list to where no-one notices it.
