I passed through this lovely historic town today and thought it would be a good place for a meet up. Any takers?

Bump

Hello Greenfinch. smile
If you can wait till August I'll meet you in Wallingford. Any date from 13th to 16th inc. I will be cat sitting then, staying in Oxford, which makes Wallingford more easily accessible to me. I used to have a friend there, but she's no longer with us sadly.
Hope this is a possibility. flowers

Very happy to meet up at Wallingford and could probably bring two other (specific) people from Didcot who do not have cars (if they want to come).

Greenfinch Fri 10-May-24 18:13:51

Aldom because I need to drive for the first part of my journey the only day during that period when I could be sure of having the car would be 14th August. Would that suit you MOnica? It would be lovely if you were willing to ferry a couple of others. Looking forward to hearing from you .

Aldom Fri 10-May-24 18:27:45

I will pencil in August 14th Greenfinch. Lovely to see that Monica may join us and bring others.

I have done the same Aldom. Do you know Wallingford? If so, can you recommend anywhere for coffee/lunch?

Aldom Mon 13-May-24 21:54:21

It's a good few years since I was last in Wallingford and the coffee shop we liked has closed. We could meet at Waitrose. 1 St. Martins Street, OX10 0EF. There is a cafe there if needed, but I'm sure we can easily find somewhere else. smile

Just looked online and found Mollie's Cafe @ 5 St. Martin's Street. It's a new, healthy eating cafe.

Just a thought but Benson is quite near to Wallingford and the Waterside Cafe is supposed to be good ... nice setting by the river. Have a lovely day..wish I could join you but hopefully next time.

Greenfinch Tue 14-May-24 09:23:02

Thanks Aldom. Mollie’s looks good and they seem to do a light lunch as well. They close at 3 pm but that is usually when most of us are thinking of returning home anyway. Good thought!
Thanks for the idea Ilovepuffins. We will give it some thought. It depends upon whether it is on the bus route as some of us will be relying on public transport.

Aldom Tue 14-May-24 10:36:45

Shall we meet at Mollie's and you decide on the time?
I agree, the Waterside Cafe is lovely ilovepuffins, another time perhaps. It would be nice to meet you. smile

Nice to get it settled Aldom even though it is a long way ahead. I suggest meeting at 11 am for coffee and see how we go from there. I think my bus from Reading gets in just before 11 all being well. Is that all right for you ? Still hoping that MOnica and others will be able to join us.

I live in Oxford and would like to come if I can. My husband is rather frail and I may not be able to leave him but I've put 14 Aug in my diary. Had to give up driving years ago because of wonky vision but the bus service seems frequent.

Greenfinch Tue 14-May-24 12:13:54

winterwhite you will be more than welcome if you can make it. You probably know the X40 is a good service and you can catch it either at Westgate or near Carfax. If it is difficult for you on the day we could probably organise one in Oxford in the Autumn. As far as I know the Wallingford meet up will be a new group so anyone who doesn’t like “ breaking into” an established group need have no fear.

ilovepuffins Wed 15-May-24 06:50:54

Thank you Aldom
Of course Greenfinch I was forgetting that and Waterside is quite a way out.
If you do have an Autumn meet up I would love to come and meet you all

Aldom Wed 15-May-24 08:33:22

Good morning all. Just to say, I can meet for coffee, or tea in Oxford next week if anyone is free. May 24th, 25th or 26th.
Looking forward to seeing those who can make it to Wallingford in August.

Aldom Thu 16-May-24 15:53:20

Bumping this up in case someone is free to meet.

M0nica Thu 16-May-24 19:07:03

Aldom, I can do next week. If its just the two of us, we might as well meet in Wantage!

Aldom Fri 17-May-24 07:30:50

Hi Monica. I am actually in Oxford on those dates next week. But I'll meet you in Wantage if you are free 29,30,31st May? smile

M0nica Fri 17-May-24 19:48:26

Aldom, I am free on 29th and 31st. I will be in Wantage anyway on the 29th as I go to the market. The vegetable stall s fantastic.

Aldom Fri 17-May-24 21:11:48

Yes, I remember you saying that you come to the market on Wednesdays.
Let me know what time suits you best. Shall we meet at the museum for coffee?

M0nica Sat 18-May-24 10:57:23

Excellent idea. How about meeting at 10.30? If anyone else wants to join us they would be welcome, whether they are local or just fancy a drive into the country and a cup of coffee with company.

The museum is easy to find on google maps. It is the Vale and Downland Museum and there is a public car park a couple of hundred yards away.

Aldom Sat 18-May-24 17:16:56

MOnica, see you Wednesday, 29th May, 10.30 at the V&D Museum.
If anyone else is free on that day please join us. smile

M0nica Mon 20-May-24 08:27:17

Its a date!
