HRT and bleeding? Not sure what to do now!

Went to gynaecologist after post menopausal bleeding.
He removed an old coil and it stopped - then it started again so I went back. He put on HRT Estrogel with Norethisterone (period delay tablet)
I was fine and then I accidentally missed 1 tablet and have had a heavy bleed ever since. Not sure if to stop Estrogel, I know its a bit of an unusual scenario but I can't see Gynae until early Jan so not sure what to now. Has anyone by any chance had anything similar?

Can you ring an out of hours GP for advice ? I thought Estrogel wasn't advisable for vaginal bleeding but I'm not a Gynea so not qualified to give advice.

I had vaginal bleeding while using a hormone pessary. The first Dr I saw (a man) told me not to worry and he would book me into see a gynaecologist which would be some time away. I wasn't happy with his advice so I went to see a female Dr who told me to stop using the pessary and I needed to see a specialist Gynea as soon as possible. Saw one within 2 weeks and he did a several tests which all came back negative.

So my advice would be go and see another Dr for another option, to me it doesn't sound right.

Usually you would/wiĺl be offered ultrasound scans poss external and internal...they can give a good indication
..a hysteroscopy might be needed..and can remove any fibroids or polyps at that time if a general anaesthetic but that is usual process for post menopause bleeding.
Good luck.

Hi, thanks - I forgot the rather important info that when he removed the coil he did an internal and said everything looks normal.
I’ve booked a private gynae for Monday now as I’m so confused and stressed. HRT has such totally conflicting advice online but he only gave me it yo stop the bleeding and now I’m having a period like a teenager, belly cramps and all!
Thanks for your advice, I do think it’s the estrogel that’s causing the bleed.
I’ve stopped everything until I see the gynae.

I bled the whole time I was on Hrt, heavily for about 18 months. Stopped the hrt and the bleeding continued. I was put on Northisterone 3 x 5mg a day and the bleeding gradually stopped. That went on for a while until a gynae decided to take me off Northisterone and I again bled heavily. Went back on Northisterone and have been taking it for over 5 years with no bleeding at all. I now take 2x 5mg a day and I'm bleed free and have been told to stay on it for ever more.

I had polyps removed last year and was put on northisterone 3×5mg a day. I had a biopsy after 6 months and given the all clear.I was told to stop the tablets which I did.Two days later I had the most horrific bleed which lasted for 3 weeks. My GP felt the bleeding was excessive (I had to have a blood test for anaemia) and emailed the Consultant but I haven't heard anything yet.
If this is a side effect of coming off the tablets why did anyone not tell me?

Sorry, I know this is an old thread but I am 67 and came off Femoston Conti HRT 2 months ago, I am still having horrendous heavy bleeds, GP prescribed Norethisterone which stops bleed but then in comes back when I finish 2 week course of Norethisterone. Had a hysteroscopy, gyno said all looked ok but hrt was causing bleed. Gyno said I should gradually come off norethisterone, first week 3 a day, 2nd week 2 daily and from next week one daily to see if bleeding settles down. I am so anxious about bleed coming back. Is it ok to keep taking norethisterone 2 a day at my age do you think?

Hi Flexible friend, just wondered, are you still on Norethisterone?

Hi
Since the thread was used fairly recently I though I'd update.
I went back to Gynae who said he was sure it would settle but that he'd up the Norethisterone and reduce the estrogel.
Then he had a quick internal and saw a polyp, he said it was large, had grown rapidly and needed to be removed.
I wasn't happy with all the messing about so I saw another gynae who got me in for day surgery to remove the polyp.
When I came round he said that was no polyp, that my womb looked very abnormal and that he thought it was cancerous. I had to stay in for an MMR that evening and await biopsy results. The MMR and the biopsy came back clear but he said that the womb looked very abnormal and he still thought it was cancer and he strongly recommended a full hysterectomy. Which I had, he then sent the womb for examination as he was sure that it was cancerous. It came back negative. I don't know if I had an unnecessary hysterectomy or not - but i did go originally for bleeding.
Anyway, This is now 4 months on and I have more issues - theres not much in there now but my whole undercarriage feels sort of bruised - like I've been riding a bike for hours (I haven't!) - I've googled; there seem to be a few pregnant women who complain of this but none otherwise. So i'm back on gransnet and will have to have a 'phone conversation with gynae.

Yes I am still taking Northisterone every day and fully expect to for the rest of my life, I'm 66 in August.
