Red sore scalp -menopause?

I had an itchy sore scalp for years which drove me mad. I tried every specialist shampoo available, plus ointments from the doctor. Nothing helped. Then I discovered E45 dry scalp shampoo, which was like a miracle. Available from Boots, sometimes they put it with the other shampoos, sometimes with the other E45 skin products in the problem skin section. Now I just use Simple shampoo, with occasional use of E45. Hello Sorrell, I have undyed white hair and lately I have a scabby scalp. It’s annoying especially if like me you don’t use many products and I’m always on the alert for headlice via grandkids.
I would persist with getting an appointment to discuss options and possibilities for your menopausal symptoms and try and get a 20 minute appointment so you can get to the root ( no pun ..honest) of the scalp issue.

I find that Nizoral shampoo does the trick for itchy/flaky scalp, Sorrell.

You can buy it in Asda and in Morrison's, you don't need a prescription.

Hello Esspee, you are right I should persevere with the doctors I think they did the blood test because they thought it might by thyroid problems. Another young female doctor thought it was follicular. Covid restrictions to the doctors appointments have proved problematic but I need some sort of answer. Thank you

I have never heard of scalp problems connected to the menopause. It might be a completely separate issue and you should make an appointment with your doctor. I had a phone appointment and the doctor told me to come in. They are using the calls as a form of triage.
Your night sweats sound horrific. You do know that menopause is now optional, don't you?
It is caused by lack of oestrogen and through time it causes disastrous health deterioration. Osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, incontinence, prolapse, vaginal atrophy, heart disease, loss of libido etc.
Your doctor can prescribe replacement hormones which will clear your night sweats and help prevent the other things I mentioned.
Just a gell to rub into your skin or a small plaster like a corn plaster and you will be on top of the world.

During the good old days when I endured the menopause I got pustular psoriasis all over my scalp. It made my scalp pink and it was itchy and sore. My scalp was covered in little tiny weeny mini blisters. I stopped using the stuff the doctor prescribed as it didn’t help. I just washed my hair in mild baby soap, as little as possible, and eventually it calmed.
If I’m stressed I get it back as it’s related to stress and the auto immune system.
