So...

The Tory government introduced GCSEs in the 1980s.

Now they want to bring back 'O' levels.

Sigh.

I remember the dip pen and ink well clogged with blotting paper! It was an honour to be ink monitor. I found it so difficult to write without smudging and not have fingers covered in ink. New nibs were really appreciated as those that broke or twisted caused so much mess and a see me remark at the end of the page smile

It was pretty miserable trying to write with those dippy pens wasn't it.

Yes, I always seemed to get one with a bent or misaligned nib - sometimes the tip was so splayed it wouldn't write at all! Blue fingers every day as well.

We had green blotting paper cut into squares and handed out

And we made penwipers with circles of cloth sewn together with a button in the middle which was about the limit of my creativity.
