A recurrence of the bladder infection he suffered after the Jubilee weekend. A precautionary measure apparently.

nattygran Wed 15-Aug-12 18:24:17

I've just seen it on the news. Hope it's not serious.

HildaW Wed 15-Aug-12 20:02:12

Fingers crossed for him, they seem to be such a devoted couple in their own way.

nanaej Wed 15-Aug-12 22:18:54

He is just copying my aunt..she is in hospital with a UTI too!

merlotgran Wed 15-Aug-12 22:26:59

They're very unpleasant. My mother gets UTI from time to time and goes completely doo-lally. The first time it happened I thought is was dementia but thankfully, after a few days on antibiotics, she was back to normal. Hope your aunt soon recovers nanaej

nanaej Wed 15-Aug-12 22:38:51

Thanks merlot she seems to be making a swift recovery and should be at a family party on Saturday!

nightowl Wed 15-Aug-12 22:58:42

I wonder whether the DofE goes doo-lally when he gets his UTIs, like merlot's mother? I would love to be a fly on the wall and hear the Queen trying to sort him out.

In all seriousness, I do hope he recovers soon; I can't believe how fond I have become of the pair of them. I seem to be going around in a post jubilee haze. This is to the great amusement of my republican family. grin

Anagram Wed 15-Aug-12 23:01:23

He is such a character, though, isn't he? Hard not to like him....even if you're a republican! grin

merlotgran Wed 15-Aug-12 23:16:57

Well if he does, nightowl it would be something along the lines of, 'Put that there. No not there. Who are you? Where are my tweezers? I was born in Zimbabwe' (No, mother, it was Southampton.) Yes. I would also like to be a fly on the wall grin

Get well soon, D of E flowers

nightowl Wed 15-Aug-12 23:23:37

Oh dear merlot flowers

Then again, the Duke comes out with such outrageous things I'm not sure how they would ever tell the difference!

susiecb Thu 16-Aug-12 04:06:43

I think its a polite way of saying he has gone into retention again - very uncomfortable.

Ella46 Thu 16-Aug-12 08:55:43

I don't think he's looked particularly well for a while now. His eyes are sunken with very dark rings.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's had prostate cancer for a few years and it's beginning to take it's toll on him.

I like him though, he's a game old stick!

gracesmum Thu 16-Aug-12 11:50:36

Would I be sent to the Tower if i suggested it could be difficult to establish the degree of doo-lallyness in HRH? grin blush
Bless 'im, I have very sympathy with spouses who get repeated infections, and hope it is not a retrograde step in his general health.

glammanana Thu 16-Aug-12 12:51:51

I hope the Duke is better soon what a great couple they both are I wonder if he is a good patient or like mr.G. and needs 24hr attention if he has so much as a cold.

Ella46 Thu 16-Aug-12 16:20:32

Can't see him getting much sympathy from HM, she is far too tough to put up with a whinger grin

POGS Sun 19-Aug-12 19:36:17

merlotgran.

I hope you will forgive me slightly going off your thread but I didn't want to start a new one about the same thing, as happens too often!

I have very little knowledge of his life but I was so interested reading a T.V. mag, prior to a programme on TUESDAY, CHANNEL 4 9.00P.M. 'The Queen's Mother In Law'.

What a sad life he had to start with. His mother survived exile from Greece, had a mental breakdown, religeous mania.Sigmund Freud advised a Berlin clinic to 'blast her womb with x-rays' to cure her of frustrated sexual desires. The poor woman suffered schizophrenia beleiving she was having physical relationships with Jesus.

During the war she had become a nun and sold jewellery to found a religeous order in Athens for the poor. She was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations from Isreal for hiding jews from the gestapo.

Like the Royals or not as the case may be, it just be interesting to watch.

merlotgran Sun 19-Aug-12 20:38:47

I'm looking forward to seeing the programme, POGS. I've heard tales of her wandering the corridors of Buckingham Palace smoking a woodbine grin The Mountbatten clan have certainly had an interesting, colourful past with a lot of tragedy as well.

POGS Sun 19-Aug-12 21:23:34

merlotgran.

Apparently that's quite true, wearing a nuns habit from the order she founded. Also wore the habit to the Queens Coronation and it says you can see her if you look closely.

Greatnan Mon 20-Aug-12 09:46:12

Isn't it odd that the Royal Family rarely visit each other in hospital - I wonder what the rationale is behind that?

Annobel Mon 20-Aug-12 09:54:10

I do hope they are talking to the poor old boy on the phone - maybe they have Skype set up!

Greatnan Mon 20-Aug-12 10:03:29

Yes, apparently the queen and Prince Charles have 'been in contact' with him.

Marelli Mon 20-Aug-12 10:05:13

I'm going to watch that, POGS. I hadn't realised it was on - and I think I do remember something her in the Coronation photo, now I think of it.

absentgrana Mon 20-Aug-12 10:07:13

There's madness on all sides of the family. grin

Marelli Mon 20-Aug-12 10:12:29

The thought of a nun wandering the corridors of Buck House dragging away on a Woodbine .......imagine it! grin

Annobel Mon 20-Aug-12 10:13:27

I vaguely remember the Duke's mother from the Coronation and thinking that 'Princess Andrew of Greece' was a strange name, then never giving it another thought - until now.
