Should MPs volunteer for reality TV?

Or should they wait until their retire?
Conservative MP for mid beds has volunteered for "I'm a celebrity". Some people think this is inappropriate for a member of parliament.
What do we think about this?

Ariadne Tue 06-Nov-12 17:40:11

Couldn't be much dafter than some of the stuff they say or do! And they certainly are used to being prats....Not that I'm cynical!

Ana Tue 06-Nov-12 17:44:26

There's already a thread about this entitled 'Nadine Dorries', Jess.

jO5 Tue 06-Nov-12 17:45:13

It's alright so long as we are not paying them for their time.

Let them suffer if that's what they want. hmm

jO5 Tue 06-Nov-12 17:45:33

whoops!

JessM Tue 06-Nov-12 17:51:40

oh - right - sorry! Thought she was some kind of celeb. Obviously trying to be some kind of celeb.

whenim64 Tue 06-Nov-12 18:08:26

I see on the 6 o'clock news she has been suspended from parliamentary procedures.

kittylester Tue 06-Nov-12 18:12:12

They should only do it if they want to prove they are self-seeking idiots rather than leaving us just to think they are! angry

nanaej Tue 06-Nov-12 18:22:28

What a silly woman! She is a bit of a self-seeker I feel!

Ana Tue 06-Nov-12 18:23:06

What was she thinking? It was bad enough when Sally Bercow took part, but at least she's not an MP!

Mishap Tue 06-Nov-12 18:23:18

Very undignified - not staqtesman/woman like. Pathetic really.

annodomini Tue 06-Nov-12 18:28:00

The only problem is that she's likely to be voted off pronto so will be back in the Commons in no time! Ghastly woman anyway!

whenim64 Tue 06-Nov-12 18:33:54

What about the golden opportunity to make her do the tasks, anno? I could see her being kept in so viewers can torture her! It's like knitting whist watching the guillotine drop for some people.

Greatnan Tue 06-Nov-12 18:37:04

If she makes as big an idiot of herself as Galloway did on Big Brother, I will enjoy watching it. However, I feel far too many MPs have jobs outside Parliament, and some have multiple directorships, memerships of Quangos, etc. The noble lords should also have to stay for a couple of hours in order to get their attendance allowance - many just sign in and go home.

Oldgreymare Tue 06-Nov-12 18:46:01

Heard that 'the whip has been removed', even Ann Widdicombe (sp) thought that a bit silly as it now becomes a Cons. Party issue instead of a publicity seeking young woman!
Mind you she will get oodles of publicity... do you think she is planning to wear 't' shirts with messages emblazoned on them? hmm

NfkDumpling Tue 06-Nov-12 19:00:04

I certainly wouldn't vote for her next time if she was my MP. Exhibitionist!

Perhaps they could suspend most of the MP's who vanish off on unnecessary jollies at our expense. At least we're not paying for her to go.

absentgrana Tue 06-Nov-12 19:03:29

Not unless they want to make complete prats of themselves. Easily done by some of them, even without reality TV.

titch02 Tue 06-Nov-12 19:09:53

leave her there for as long as possible and keep voting for her to do the Jungle task's. She will be begging to be voted of. He-He grin

Jodi Tue 06-Nov-12 19:45:24

She didn't inform anyone apparently. Neither her local constituency party nor her parliamentary one. Of course she should be suspended. If you or I took 30 days leave without informing our manager/company/boss we'd be sacked. Silly moo. hmm

gracesmum Tue 06-Nov-12 19:52:06

My sympathy goes to the witchety grubs, I'd be pickier about who ate me!grin

gracesmum Tue 06-Nov-12 19:53:15

PS for the rest of my humble opinion - see the Nadine Dorries thread!

Ana Tue 06-Nov-12 19:56:45

I suspect it's a Grand Gesture and she was going to resign anyway. She must have known what would happen.

Nanadog Tue 06-Nov-12 20:35:59

gracesmum grin

gracesmum Tue 06-Nov-12 20:37:42

Resign the way Louise Mensch jumped before she was pushed, you mean Ana? (Her husband really landed her in it didn't he?)grin

Ana Tue 06-Nov-12 21:35:56

No, I think Nadine Dorries has become very disillusioned and bitter since being in government and knew exactly what the reaction would be to her decision to sign up to I'm a Celeb (which she isn't, but then half of them aren't anyway!). It's a two fingered gesture to the 'posh boys' at the top, and I don't think she gives a damn about the consequences to her career.
(Only my opinion, of course!)
