So it now seems that he didn't actually swear at the police! He muttered under his breath in frustration which is hardly the same thing at all. I think it is looking like a set up now, how else would the log book say there were others around when there were not? If this is true I think he has been very restrained as he was put in a no win situation.

But I'm sure he originally admitted to swearing at one of the officers. Surely if he'd categorically denied doing any such thing at the time he wouldn't have been demoted? Has he changed his story?

Maybe Ana or did he just admit to swearing? There is a subtle difference and according to the Sunday Times the public are now on his side. There was clearly collusion within the police and it would appear their motivation was to put him in an invidious position.

I think he admitted to swearing in front of the officer.

He wasn't demoted, he resigned from his post, there is a difference.

This is what he said in the Sunday Times:

Me: "Please open the gates"
Police: "No. Please get off your bike and leave by the pedestian exit."
Me: "Please open the gates, I am the chief whip; I work here at N0 9."
Police: No, "you have to get off your bike and wheel it out."
Me: "Look, I have already been in and out several times today. Please open the gates."
Police: "no"

Then he says he did as he was told and:

As I did so, I muttered - though not directly at him - "I thought you guys were supposed to f*** help us". To which the policeman responded "If you swear at me I will arrest you". Then he left.

He also says that at the meeting with the Police Federation, after which they told the press that he wouldn't tell them what he said, a recording of the whole proceedings was made which proves he did tell them what he said. I don't think he would have said that if it were not true as it is so easily provable.

It does seem to have been a bit of a stitch up whish would not be the first time for soem of our police.

Time will tell.

I think the press, media and politicians should take care when they openly make accusations that demolishes the character of a person, I dislike the media doing it but I abhore the practice in Parliament where they can say what they want and do just to score political points.

This has gone on a long time hasn't it. Now the IPCC are accusing several police of lies.
There is a certain irony here methinks. Many people think politicians lie a lot. Many of us have reason to think that police sometimes lie and behave unethically. Tory party has traditionally been 100% behind police and unwilling to think they could possibly behave badly (lies in court, fitting people up etc). Don't we live in interesting times?

I am glad you remembered this thread, I did too but I have no idea how to bring a thread back. I must get to grips with the technological stuff.

As you say, interesting times, I truly hope this issue will be dealt with in a proper fashion, this time!. I believe there is more evidence now and I hope the CPS make the right judgement call and he gets his day in court. His reputation was in tatters and to give him his due he has shown great restraint and not played the victim card like so many do.

I think the CPS will be making a decision quite soon, not before time IMHO.

Wouldn't be at all surprised at Andrew Mitchell using the' F' word to Police. He used to be our local MP and was not exactly popular He. always seemed aloof as if he was too good for the likes of an ordinary city suburb. He probably considered himself to be superior to the Police.
It will be interesting to follow this 'story' to find out who WAS telling the truth.

He DID use the 'F' word. He has never denied that he totally denies using the word PLEB. There was an apology made and accepted for using the 'F' word.

The IPCC are not happy with the result of an enquiry, into this story, by three police forces. The puzzling part is, the IPCC monitored this enquiry, and now doesn't like the outcome. Where to from here?. As Trendygran said, he thinks he is above everyone, just like a lot of the "Elites" at Westminster.

He taped the meeting with the Police Federation, fortunately for him. This is proof the three officers from the Police Federation told a lie immediately afterwards by saying on camera he had offered no comment on the event.

I am sorry that being a so-called 'toff' means you can be treated differently to, shall I say, a 'working class' person. Why should that matter? If the view is well he's a toff he deserved to be 'possibly' set up by the police is the answer, I despair.

Pogs Sorry I'm not implying he should be treated any differently, my point was that the IPCC started this investigation, and now don't like the outcome. Why not have a Select commitee to investigate these matters, but then people will say that it's not independant. As I say where to from hear?.
