I do NOT for one moment believe he used the word "plebs". That was a lie by the police to forWard their own agenda against the conservative government. I hope the Chief Constables are made to sort it out.

Sir Hugh Orde was speaking on Today programme this morning. He said that in Northern Ireland he was able to refer all complaints to an impartial Police ombudsman. What are all these elected Police and Crime Commissioners for?

In response to your post I believe the three Police Officers involved with the meeting, not the officers involved at the gates of no. 10, have been called before the Select Committee next Wednesday. I do not want to be held to that statement, it is just something I have picked up on, rightly or wrongly.

Next Wednesday The Police Federation, The IPCC and the 3 Police Officers have been called before the Home Affairs Select Committee.

It will possibly be shown on Freeview 81 BBC Parliament? It will be interesting viewing if it is.

I heard they had asked to appear before the Select Committee as it was the only forum left open to them to clarify their case.
The whole thing smacks of disproportionate revenge on a discourteous MP, undertaken as a reaction to cuts in police budgets. No-one comes out clean on this - but a stupid remark from a stressed cyclist who should have known better counts to me as far less worrying than a network of malicious intrigue amongst law officers.

It's the 3 chief constables of the 3 police officers at the meeting ( who represented the Police Federation) who are to go before the select committee - dont know about IPCC and Police Fed but deffo not the 3 officers

I cannot understand why they are digging their heels in and resisting a proper public enquiry. Why should they feel the need to protect their officers if they have done nothing wrong.

This whole thing is a pantomime with a cast of villains of various shades. Many of us on GN grew up well versed in police corruption/lies/ cover-up - the Met, WestMidlands, Guildford 4, Birmingham 6- the 1984 PACE resulted from much of that appalling behaviour towards suspects . The treatment of the miners during the strike and Thatcher's rewards to the police made them feel inviolable. Throw Hillsborough into the mix, de Menezes, Tomlinson and a useless IPCC and there is much to worry about that the gimmick of elected PCCs does nothing to address.

I can't understand why it's been allowed to drag on for so long.

I suspect there's been wrongdoing by the police/Police Federation and the government couldn't face tackling it.

I don't support AM as he seems to have behaved badly during the incident. The notion of some kind of conspiracy to do him down is just shocking. Especially coming so soon after Hillsborough, recent revelations on JSaville and West Yorkshire Police and the current Mark Duggan trial. I have worked with so many good police officers, and so few I wouldn't trust at all. Let's hope there is a proper investigation with disciplinary action if that's needed.
