I don't think she'd have needed an excuse. The Queen is probably much more adaptable than some people seem to think - it was only tradition that everyone had Christmas lunch with her, after all.

Unlike Diana and Fergie, Kate comes from a close-knit family. The Queen knows that mistakes have been made in the past and more than likely understands that Kate wants to be with her mother and sister should the morning sickness return. It might not have actually gone away. As Ana says, it's tradition for them all to be at Sandringham and if I was a Royal hanger-on I'd be there like a shot as it's FREE!

I agree totally. For goodness sake she certainly has shown nothing but being adaptable for a long time. This year more than any she has displayed a good sense of fun. There aren't many women of her age who could keep up the pace both mentally nor physically.

Seems pretty adaptable to me.

What has she done this year? Oh yes travelled the country in private planes, helicopters, trains and chaffeur driven cars. Listened to how wonderful she is and waved a bit. Wow that's hard. Don't remind me how old she is. She can retire/abdicate any time she wants. I bet Charlie would be happy to take over.

How come when anyone says anything against the royal family they come under attack....even with a smile attached. If you don't agree with me by all means have a reasoned arguement with me. I am quite prepared to listen to points of view I don't agree with and discuss the pros and cons of any subject.

I've always been sorry that Princess Anne couldn't succeed. She always seems pretty practical and down to earth. There's nothing like working with horses for keeping your feet on the ground. They aren't a bit impressed by your blue blood, they just need you to know what you're doing.

Hello Lilygran, I did not realise it was so late, when at my laptop the time just fly's, -- I think that it is clear that I am not afraid to say what it is I want to say and therefore it would make no sense to wait until it got quiet. PS if you check what time I generally post, it is usually quite late because I am quite busy in the day... The last dispute was about bullying and there is a big difference between someone having an opinion and someone wishing to deliberately bully someone. You say that my opinion is a negative one, I believe my opinion is a true one.

I can tell you that I would never use the word negative if I were referring to another GN member's comments/opinion because we are all entitled to our own opinion....I am sure you would not appreciate it, if I were to post that, I felt your opinion to be a negative one ...how can you be upset with me simply because I am not of the same opinion as you???...I do feel that The Queen is costing Britain loads and in my opinion that money could be much better spent..I do not wish to offend any one but I do stick to my opinion....and will take the advise of GN members and not get into any silly arguments, but obviously there was no choice but to reply to your post....

It was quite public that The Queen disliked Princess Diana, would you like to be comforted at your Mothers death by a person that disliked her..She did not mourn for no other reason other than the fact there was no love lost for her..

There was a public outcry at the time of P Diana's death that was directed at The Queen regarding her lack of compassion and her absence at a time when her people needed her..

I'm sure you, and the rest of the general public, know best how the queen felt at that time CHEELU.

Can I just say that most of us on here have opinions about the Royal Family and I very much doubt that anything anyone says will change that opinion. I'm very much 'on the fence' as it were so can usually see both sides. Of all the issues raised on gransnet this one has probably resulted in more arguement than any other and [like religion] we all have to respect each other's opinion. Yes, I was angry with the Queen's attitiude to Diana's death; I was numb with grief after she died [it surprised me how awful I felt and it was a relief to find I wasn't alone in how I felt] but the Queen does a very good job and, in most ways is beyond reproach in everything she does [and you can't say that about many public figures these days, can you?]. So, have opinions Cheelu, but tread carefully with people's feelings on the matter because, as I've said, it has caused a lot of hurt in the past and we must respect peoples beliefs.

I'm just saying that, when it's an issue like this it's better to be more gentle in the approach, that's all. No one has a belief more relevant than anyone elses because, imo, we are very democratic on here.

Can not believe how some people just want to spend their GN time arguing, I joined GN for a release not to have granny slang matches and it is for that reason that this ends here............
