Yes, I vote Tory and am quite happy to admit it. I also read The Daily Mail and The Express.... Ducks behind parapet, shaking.

The King's Speech To Announce 'All But The End Of Leasehold System' System'
A second reading of the above bill is on January 23rd. Appears to be a popular item to try and stop benefit claimants from spending our hard earned cash being spent on drink drugs smoking and gambling. It can only be used for food and transport. this is obviously an attempt to help focus the spending, especially when claiments have children.
I personally think this may help and is worth a try, I hate seeing kids standing around outside betting shops and making do with a sausage roll for breakfast while mother smokes away, what do others think?

Come on out Ceesnan unless you're worried about Ivanhoe's lance
I resent any attempt to label me; like most people I know, I pick and mix. I don't think there are many die hard supporters of any political party left. Most are disillusioned with the lot of them.
Sel.
I couldn't agree more, Sel! (More a cudgel than a lance, I'd say.)
I'm a diehard supporter. I'd vote for a chimp if it wore a red rosette. My feeling is that although my party has moved to the right it's still a damn sight better than the others.
annodomini , Bang on. bluebell. Bang on.
Ceesnan, then you are part responsible for the awful State of this country today.
vampirequeen, ""I'm a diehard supporter. I'd vote for a chimp if it wore a red rosette. My feeling is that although my party has moved to the right it's still a damn sight better than the others""
Yes, under Tony Blair in 1997, Labour moved to the right and embraced Margaret Thatcher's free maret policies.
Polite? A gentleman? (CF earlier thread) The original Ivanhoe certainly was...
Ivanhoe
Do you know Labour were in charge for the last 13 years not Margaret Thatcher????
You are obsessed with Margaret Thatcher, like some others I know, why can't you debate or relate to this past decade, are you afraid to admit Labour might have got a few things wrong.
You hate Margaret Thatcher with all your heart, like others I know. Don't you think that at some stage you have to accept that decades later it is tantamount to showing a lack of intellect to blame her for all this countries problems. You would find a way of blaming her for taking us to war in Iraq and Afghanistan if you had your way.
Its time we stopped demonising people on benefits = yes some people may smoke/drink and be feckless parents , but not the majority, and why should they be treated in such a demeaning fashion ! Could they sue them at local butchers shops, bakers, market stalls etc? or trapped into buying a supermarkets
POGS,
We British are living with Thatcher's legacy everyday.
New Labour continued Thatcher's policies.
David Cameron is finished what Thatcher started.
susieb755, ""Its time we stopped demonising people on benefits""
The Tories have always used this ploy to get an audience and get votes.
And the right wing press go with it, because they need to appeal to their readership.
iVANHOE
Thank you for answering. The shorter answer would have been no I cannot think beyond Thatcher.
Ivanhoe. 0POGS 3
Thank you Galen.
But POGS don't you realise that Thatcher is to blame for the majority of what is wrong with the country - granted you can't blame her for Afghanistan, but Iraq ? The reason we thought they had WMD is her bloody cronies sold them to him
The reason our kids cant get decent homes to live in? She sold our housing stock at cut down prices
The reason our trains are crap , and utilities exorbitant - she sold our assets that we owned to people with money out to make a quick buck - ditto deregulation of public transport
She systematically ruined all that was good about this country - she was responsible for schools no longer having to provide cooked lunches, which led to an outbreak of threadworms, and a rise in obesity among children
i could go on, but I know your not for turning

No I do not realise Thatcher was to blame for the majority of what is wrong with the country.
"The reason we thought they had WMD is her bloody cronies sold them to him".
Forgive me but wasn't it the case they never found weapons of mass destruction?. Is it so unreasonable to say that Tony Blair was so called GWB poodle. I am sure Doctor Kelly, had he been alive, might be able to enlighten us all a little more. Sexed up dossiers and all that.
"The reason our kids can't get can't get decent homes to live in, She sold our housing stock at cut down prices".
Yes she did, it gave the likes of my mum and dad the ability to buy our council house and it gave me the opportunity to learn that if I worked hard I could think of buying a home not renting one which I had become indoctrinated to as a thought. Labour has a dire record on building social housing after 13 years of government, this lot need to do better too.
As for trains and utilities you might have a point, we won't know. I do remember the 3 day week and the country being held hostage and bugger all got done. Well, we all got done, out of jobs and money to pay the bills because our wages had been hit by the union strikes.I remember being sent to coventry by the union when I was 16 because I dared to say I didn't want to join the union. Happy days they were. If and when it happens again, possibly soon, at least our kids will get to see it in all it's glory. I wonder what they will think.
As for obesity, it's not because parents don't know how to cook good food that costs no more than a Mc Donalds, is it?
Oh and by the way my GD who is 6 has got threadworms and her mum.

BANG ON.
So, having made your point, can we now hope you won't keep repeating it ad infinitum on every single politics thread? Please?

Ana, There are different postings to go to.

May I just point out that no one actually voted for the current government?
phoenix , May I point out that due to the crass Thatcher/Major 18 Tory years, which lead to a Labour landslide in 1997, I never would have believed Cameron's Tory's would have got any votes at all, but they did, and Clegg signed up with them, giving us a further 5 year Parliamentary term of right wingTory rule, only worse, because Cameron now is getting away with what Thatcher started, ie rolling back the State, in cluding the welfare State and everything that comes with it.
The right of the Tory party in Government believe in a small State and low income tax, and that what we have got.
