Prime Minister declares day of compulsory celebration!

It seems that the day of the Royal babies christening will be a national holiday of compulsory celebration, with mandatory bunting and Union Flags.

The news sites are already predicting that some unscrupulous traders will take advantage and bunting costs will go through the roof.

Downright profiteering if you ask me.

sunseeker Tue 23-Jul-13 13:56:08

Looking forward to it - especially as most of the cost will be covered by the additional tax on London pensions

Nonu Tue 23-Jul-13 14:00:48

Of course it will be , and why shouldn't it ? I say .

Naughty Phoenix.

I hope the date is announced soon so that I can arrange to be out of the country. Don't like the idea of christening. Children should be left to make up their own minds about baptism or not when they're older. I didn't have mine christened and they have grown up to be decent human beings.

phoenix. Thanks a bunch! I have just woken up and realised what I did when I was half asleep. I am, officially, a dope dupe.

Free drinks for everyone who has a flag displayed in their garden?

Charleygirl Tue 23-Jul-13 14:55:01

Sunseeker- not all of us with the London Pension could possibly afford extra tax. I only know of one, male, who would be willing to help out, especially as it is related to the birth of the royal baby.

sunseeker Tue 23-Jul-13 15:11:51

Charleygirl I have suggested on the "tax London Pensions thread" that the tax should only apply to those who live outside of London. grin

Deedaa Tue 23-Jul-13 15:19:54

Don't think you can be head of the Church of England without being christened anno although I can't imagine that link will last till this one grows up.
Not certain it warrants flags and general merrymaking though hmm

granjura Tue 23-Jul-13 15:27:41

Same here Anno - apart that I am out of the country smile

FlicketyB Tue 23-Jul-13 15:53:17

Surely you should only draw a London pension if you work in London. You only got the London Allowance because you worked there. Perhaps the London allowance part of the pension of those retiring outside London should be put towards a magnificent christening present for the new royal baby.crown grin

Anne58 Tue 23-Jul-13 16:31:13

Errrm, it's not actually real, but you all knew that, didn't you! grin crown

Anne58 Tue 23-Jul-13 16:35:03

Do you think I should report myself before anyone takes offence?

sunseeker Tue 23-Jul-13 17:28:36

What do you mean its not real shock. Plans have been made, I was hoping someone would post a link to the site where I could apply for funds (raised by the tax on London pensions)

Notso Tue 23-Jul-13 17:32:43

I've made a start on the placards!

Ana Tue 23-Jul-13 17:38:50

According to STV breakfast news we are all so excited because a future king of ENGLAND has been born. Do they know something we don't know? Is the referendum a foregone conclusion? Is an independent Scotland cutting ties with the monarchy? We should be told.
