...while this is going on

kittylester Fri 20-Sept-13 16:14:17

Don't disagree with you jingle but I certainly don't like your heading. sad

annodomini Fri 20-Sept-13 16:16:38

I'm not a prude - far from it - but I agree with you on both scores, kitty.

j08 Fri 20-Sept-13 16:18:36

Is that really your best response? hmm

Some things need strong language.

gracesmum Fri 20-Sept-13 16:19:36

Counterproductive for me, jingl - you could have drawn attention to this much more effectively.

j08 Fri 20-Sept-13 16:21:32

Counter-productive?! What on earth do you mean by that?! shock

liminetta Fri 20-Sept-13 16:39:06

I think anyone who uses that f word must need to find a much better one probably the best place is in a dictionary. You can buy these in W>H>Smith or any good book shop.

simtib Fri 20-Sept-13 16:42:07

Hitting a nail with a sledgehammer does not get it to go into the wood any quicker, it just bends the nail.

Aka Fri 20-Sept-13 17:20:47

FGS are we all so mealy mouthed that we object to a swear word and can't get beyond that?

annodomini Fri 20-Sept-13 17:26:29

Not mealy mouthed and I did get beyond the F-word. I took J's point, however crudely she may have signposted it.

Aka Fri 20-Sept-13 17:27:39

Anno sunshine

kittylester Fri 20-Sept-13 17:36:35

As did I, as I said in my post. Some people, but not me, find swear words offensive and wouldn't get past the heading which surely defeats the object of posting. confused

betsysgran Fri 20-Sept-13 17:37:42

Agree with OP but also agree with kitty and anno. jings would you use that word in front of your GC? Don't get me wrong I have been known to use it myself but it actually takes the power of your heading away.

Aka Fri 20-Sept-13 17:59:25

The video and song are very moving. We all feel helpless in this war but at least we can donate to a charity like Children in Need who are respected and whose aid workers are risking their lives working in a war zone.

j08 Fri 20-Sept-13 18:00:48

Sorry. confused Are someone's grandsons reading this?!

Eloethan Fri 20-Sept-13 18:02:30

j08 We don't agree, I know, about the need for western intervention, but I absolutely agree with your sentiment in this post. Surely we should be more outraged and shocked by what is happening in Syria (and about the various countries that have sold chemicals to it and other countries in the past and who continue to arm the various factions) than about what is a fairly commonplace swear word these days.

j08 Fri 20-Sept-13 18:03:25

I'm leaving this now. I don't want it to go down the usual road.

j08 Fri 20-Sept-13 18:06:00

Thanks though Aka and Eloethan, for your posts

Ariadne Fri 20-Sept-13 18:08:56

I agree, Eleothan, we should be offended in proportion to the offence. I don't like the swear word particularly, but it got people into the thread, didn't it???

Atqui Fri 20-Sept-13 18:20:22

It got people discussing the unnecessary language, rather than the stuff Jo8 was protesting about Hence a counterproductive title

Atqui Fri 20-Sept-13 18:22:10

Ever wondered why the press uses asterisks in some of their quotes???

Ariadne Fri 20-Sept-13 18:25:17

Mmmm. Yes. I see what you mean.

Atqui Fri 20-Sept-13 18:34:13

Sorry pedants some of its quotes.

Lona Fri 20-Sept-13 18:38:05

Just because the burka/niqab is being discussed doesn't mean Syria or any other horror can't be discussed equally.
These things aren't rationed, so multiple threads could started without any need for swearing.

petallus Fri 20-Sept-13 18:41:47

If some posters find swearing more objectionable and comment-worthy than the issue in question, that is hardly*j08*'s fault surely.

Fuck is a commonly used word in the world at large these days, all over tv programs and used frequently by the younger generations.
