I was so sorry to read on Twitter tonight that Philip Seymour Hoffman had relapsed and died today from a drug overdose. He had such presence, one of my favourite actors. Gone too soon.

I believe I read that his relationship broke up because he had drugs in the house with the children. If so, that would appear he was back on drugs before the relationship broke down.

@Bellasnana - you are not alone - I had never heard of him and certainly never seen anything he was in. It's not anything I am proud of - nor am I ashamed of it...

Actually I hadn't heard of him either and even hearing all the films he had been in left me none the wiser because I hadn't seen any of them.

A family man has died of a drug overdose, which is very sad.
But there must be many other such tragedies, why such a fuss about him?
I've never heard of him either.

You should see the movie Capote. The way he transformed himself into that character was amazing! He was a very troubled gentle soul and a loss to all who knew him. sad

ps just realised, Nigella was accused of a similar thing (having drugs in a house with children.)
Thank goodness she didn't go as far as this.

Cocaine and heroin are different kinds of drugs TriciaF although both can be severely damaging.

He was in loads of good movies including The Talented Mr Ripley, Cold Mountain, The Big Lebowski.
