... And whether we like it or not.

When you hear them on the radio talking about offering euthanasia to terminally ill kids, we should thank God for every wrinkle and age spot we've been given the chance to gain.

We should shut up about it. hmmangrysad

My ex father in law used to say 'don't complain about getting old because you really don't want the alternative' - very true!

I imagine that being dead is a lot more comfortable than some states of being old. That's probably true of some states of being young too.

I'm not sure I agree that the alternative to getting old is always worse. If it were no-one would need such organisations as Dignitas.

I'll drink to that wine

Me too! Why is 'the alternative to getting older' always trotted out as though it's necessarily a bad thing?

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 20-Feb-14 22:28:29

Because most people, at the stage of life when they say that, quite like being here! hmmgrin

Ana Thu 20-Feb-14 22:33:42

Not everyone, though, jingl. I think it's bad that we have no choice.

"at the stage of life when they say that"

It's most often said jokingly by fit and well people.

I know - but it's such a cliché! hmm

the worst thing in my life is my deafness, cutting my ability to enjoy those everyday things - birds, wind in the trees . little childrens voices, running water - as in forgetting I have left the bath tap running!!, music, TV- have to read subtitles, and chatting ! which I am very conscious of asking for repeats! I find embarrassing; I wear 2 aids , and have tinnitus; please don't think I am bleating-- but these are facts which make life hard. no-one can see it as with pain that many have to bear/bare ? but my attitude has always been - try to live healthy , and keep fighting; lol chin up, best foot forward ---

Getting older? I hate my 'age' spots but love my grandchildren - one daughter and 3 grandkids was something I NEVER expected!!!!!! They might be tiring but when my little granddaughter says 'you'e not old grandma' that makes my day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jcdoh more flowers. My mum taught us a lot about ageing as well as we can. She lost her hearing, and sight in the last few years of her life. She still managed to be positive, most of the time.

Since we had the shock of the sudden deaths of 3 friends who were in their 50s last year, I am even more determined to enjoy the day.
