I'm tempted by Nigel Farage !

I have always voted Conservative but for the first time in my life I feel tempted to vote Ukip.

I like the way NF is not frightened to say things other politicians daren't say, such as our island has too many people in it and not enough Services e.g. NHS to deal with us all.

I am only against the NUMBER of people who come here, not who they are or where they have come from.

I live in a town that has a great grammar school that gives opportunities to children from all backgrounds. Long may it continue.

We are so PC now in the UK I daren't voice some of my other thoughts in case I am quite unfairly accused of being against this or that group.

I find it a sad that the UK is no longer the country I remember from my childhood.

This is a very silly digression grin

We have had no literature from any of the candidates except from Nigel and UKIP.
We have no idea therefore of any other party's manifesto without looking online.

I pronounce it Fararge with the emphasis on the 'Fa', but garage as garridge; I wasn't brought up near an estuary wink

Records show the Eurosceptic's great-grandfather Carl Schrod, who was born in 1864, was the child of German immigrant cabinet makers in London.

The census details reveal Nicholas and Bena Schrod came to London from Germany shortly after 1861, and their son was born three years afterwards.

Debra Chatfield, a family historian at findmypast.co.uk, said: "I am sure Mr Farage will be delighted to learn some more about his family history – or maybe not."

I do wonder how many of us really do not have immigrant heritage, or have close relatives who were or are immigrants elsewhere??

I am of Huguenot heritage too- the wing that went to the Swiss Jura on foot, the poor ones- instead of those who brought some of the best artisan skills to London, or wines to Sout Africa. My grandchildren have 3 races, and 10 nationalities in the past 3 generations. They look totally Irish- very blond and blue eyes- but they could have 'turned out' any shade of brown.

Of course a lot of us are of immigrant stock, granjura. The point UKIP and others are making is that Britain can't keep on taking in immigrants at the rate it has been doing. Of whatever race, colour, creed etc.

Nonu Mon 05-May-14 21:01:43

I am of Huguenot decent so what !!

Who damn well cares !!

This is now , let us live our life now , not in the past!!!!!!!!!!

JessM Mon 05-May-14 21:10:11

They don't seem to have many policies do they www.ukip.org/issues
I pronounce garage to rhyme with marriage - Farage pronounced like that sounds kind of agricultural.
It appears that in Wales there are 2 other parties standing that are competing with UKIP. Considering voting Green - they do stand a chance of getting EU seats and having an influence there.

rosequartz Mon 05-May-14 23:06:30

I don't think I can be bothered to wade through the policies of ALL those parties!

NfkDumpling Tue 06-May-14 09:30:22

I'd like to be of Huguenot descent - but fear I'm a Walloon! Huguenot sounds so much posher!

NfkDumpling Tue 06-May-14 09:32:59

And thanks Jess for the link to UKIP policies. I'd failed to find any - apart from the Out of the EU/ No Immigration.

ninny Tue 06-May-14 10:58:32

If you want to find out about UKIP policies look on their website, not the bloated bias bbc.

How can Nigel Farage be racist when he is married to a german lady.

durhamjen Tue 06-May-14 11:10:34

Here's a link to facts about immigration other than the bloated bias of Ukip.

grin

Nonu Tue 06-May-14 11:39:43

You can be an honaray one !x

Iam64 Tue 06-May-14 13:20:46

I know, I know, I shouldn't respond But, Ninny, what on earth has the fact Nige is married to a german woman got to do with racism?

GadaboutGran Tue 06-May-14 13:45:00

If that argument is used Ninny, does that mean that no man that is married can be sexist?

GadaboutGran Tue 06-May-14 13:47:04

to be up-to-date & accurate, I should have said - married to a woman

HollyDaze Tue 06-May-14 19:24:26

Aka - interesting link you gave and one that I was very pleasantly surprised and pleased to read the outcome. I have a general dislike for received pronunciation but even more so when it is considered the correct mode of speech.

Ana Tue 06-May-14 19:28:56

I've always said 'garaage' because that's how my family said it, although all Northerners. But the rest of my 'a's are flat - as in 'bath' rather than 'barth'. Funny that! grin

HollyDaze Tue 06-May-14 21:52:58

UKIP have some support from Migration Watch and from Professor David Coleman, Professor of Demography at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford since October 2002, and a lecturer since 1980. He is currently based in the respected Department for Social Policy and Intervention.

Between 1985 and 1987 he worked for the British Government, as the Special Adviser to the Home Secretary, and then to the Ministers of Housing and of the Environment. He is a fellow of St John's College, Oxford.

He has published over 90 papers and eight books and was the joint editor of the European Journal of Population from 1992 to 2000. In 1997 he was elected to the Council of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population.

Professor Coleman may be thought to know what he's talking about.

Whatever personal beliefs are held, the British were never consulted about Europe, they were never asked about mass immigration; I fail to understand why people would object to a referendum; unless of course, some have more right to an opinion than others.

Silverfish Tue 06-May-14 21:57:09

you have a valid point there Holly, Im undecided but will bear this in mind

HollyDaze Tue 06-May-14 22:32:59

I do think it's important to gather all the facts Silverfish. The UK will, in all probability, only get this chance once. I have no axe to grind on the whole Europe thing (the Isle of Man is not part of Europe) as I don't live in the UK but from watching various politics shows, it is something that a lot of people are concerned about. It's only fair that the people of the UK have a say in what happens to their country - whether that be via UKIP or trusting David Cameron to keep his promise will be up to those who are concerned. You already know where Labour and the Lib Dems stand on this issue.

annodomini Tue 06-May-14 22:34:47

Well if this isn't the UKIP lunatic fringe, I don't know what is.

Silverfish Tue 06-May-14 22:48:27

its all too complicated for me, ive thought of this and that and I still don't know who I might vote for if I ever vote again. Having said that I wish Pepa pig would form a piggies party. I would vote for them, harmless and innocent.

Silverfish Tue 06-May-14 22:49:22

(grin)

annodomini Tue 06-May-14 22:50:31

Think again: Peppa Pig is a subversive feminist!
