I'm tempted by Nigel Farage !

I have always voted Conservative but for the first time in my life I feel tempted to vote Ukip.

I like the way NF is not frightened to say things other politicians daren't say, such as our island has too many people in it and not enough Services e.g. NHS to deal with us all.

I am only against the NUMBER of people who come here, not who they are or where they have come from.

I live in a town that has a great grammar school that gives opportunities to children from all backgrounds. Long may it continue.

We are so PC now in the UK I daren't voice some of my other thoughts in case I am quite unfairly accused of being against this or that group.

I find it a sad that the UK is no longer the country I remember from my childhood.

If UKIP want no part of the EU can someone tell me why they are putting forward candidates to be elected to the EU Parliament?

Maybe because the UK is still in the EU?

That was a silly comment from Farage and he won't have done himself any favours; maybe trying to appeal to the older and the die-hard religious possibly. I would hate to think of things taking a backward step.

Normally I would wholeheartedly agree with you smiter but for the European Elections no one is giving me the info I need: names of individual candidates would be a good start; individual policies (relating to where I live) would also be useful. The Green Party have done this but the Conservatives have sent out a cover all leaflet with David Cameron surrounded by 8 Prospective MEP's who could be 'for' anywhere. No Labour or Liberal leaflets at all yet; are they standing 'down south'? I agree with what you say about UKIP smiter

for the first time in my voting life I am tempted not to bother.

it was not that 'the anti-gay marriage' opinions voiced were anti-gay but those of us who are fine with gay people just not the 'marriage' bit were bullied off the forum so don't say we were all in favour of it. angry

janeainsworth Mon 12-May-14 17:42:58

Mollie65 Who was 'bullied off the forum'?
Some people may not have liked the way the conversation went, but to say they were bullied is ridiculous.

smiter1955 Mon 12-May-14 18:14:25

I am not for one moment suggesting that this is the right way to be DebNCreme but maybe the belief is that, in this climate of electronic information, the various parties think people who are remotely interested in the policies will go out and do research online.

Cos the pay is great and nobody asks you in for a little chat if you don't turn up at work for months on end. Just possibly.

smiter1955 Mon 12-May-14 18:46:33

Love your way of thinking JessM.

ninny Mon 12-May-14 18:55:05

mollie65 I agree with you.

Do you still want to vote for UKIP?

papaoscar Wed 14-May-14 04:53:30

Yes, DJ, the more I see of Farage and UKIP the less I like them. They are a very nasty bunch playing on people's fears.

I'm worried that with parties like the National Front being able to give Election Broadcasts on national TV, that this will make UKIP seem moderate and acceptable to some voters.

Wheniwasyourage Wed 14-May-14 09:38:52

it was encouraging to see on DH's postal vote ballot paper that there are several anti-EU parties standing here, some of which I had never heard of. Just hope they split the right-wing vote amongst them!

annodomini Wed 14-May-14 09:59:42

Thanks for the link, durhamjen. I thought that UKIP were the lunatic fringe but now it's clear that even they have their very own even more lunatic fringe. Wheniwas, I noticed a strange proliferation of these parties when my ballot paper arrived. It would be nice to think that they would take votes from UKIP but somehow I doubt it.

Aka - I thought the BNP Party Political Broadcast was very positive for UKIP and more likely to make people vote for them. An own goal for the BNP (thank goodness) I thought.

(That first para was supposed to be in italics, sorry)

NanKate.l If you have always voted Conservative, then you wouldnt have voted at all this past 30 odd years. Since Thatcher, decent one nation left wing Conservatism has gone, only to be replaced by harsh ultra right wing Tory.

Also, due to your chosen political affiliation, I take it you dont use the NHS,because the NHS was born of a Labour Government in 1945-1948. The Conservatives of the day fought hard against its core values.

Joan Mon 19-May-14 00:32:52

That's true - old conservatism had at least a tough of paternalism that stopped them going too far right. The old Liberals were the ones with a laissez-faire, devil- take- the- hindmost attitudes.

Joan Mon 19-May-14 00:33:11

touch not tough

Nonu Thu 29-May-14 02:48:03

Have read in"USA Today" that UKIP have done rather better than expected.
I don"t know whethere to be sad or glad !!
sunshine and flowers to you all

Thanks for that little postcard nonu hmm

Sunseeker if you come from outside the EU immigration is not easy. Even if you marry a UK resident it is tough. Neither is it at all easy for companies to employ non-EU citizens even when they have skills for which that company might be desperate. Very similar to Aus and NZ really - only there they have more limited free movement - NZ citizens entitled to work in Aus etc

durhamjen Thu 29-May-14 10:33:19

All those people who voted for Ukip voted for a party that had no manifesto. Farage ditched the last one in January and will launch the new one in September. He hasn't yet decided what to do about the NHS or the economy.

Ana Thu 29-May-14 11:11:59

I do hope we're not going to be subjected to relentless anti-UKIP lobbying from now until the next general election...

Grannylin Thu 29-May-14 12:06:01

Why not? I'm still waiting to hear what they actually stand for

Ana Thu 29-May-14 12:25:38

Well, you're not likely to be voting for them anyway then.
