Glasgow School of Art on Fire!!

We are both shocked and very upset. Thankful that no lives lost. Sorry for all who have lost work and treasures.

No lives lost phew a glimmer in the darkness.

Very sad news, another Mackintosh fan here.

Do you live in Glasgow Agus? Is there a more beloved building anywhere in the world?

Oh God no! I don't want to hear any more just yet. I feel sick.

I can't stop crying. Can't think of another building that would have affected me so much. At least [trying to be positive here] it isn't the Mona Lisa. By that I mean that the design and the plans are still there and it can and will be rebuilt even though it's soul may have been destroyed.

MIL was a student there in the 30's so we have a particular affection for it. A lovely building with a unique history.

I can't believe this has happened. Was there not a sprinkler system etc. All I can think [in a very selfish way] is, thank goodness I've been there and at least I've seen it. I hope my son doesn't hear the news; he's away on holiday at the moment..he'll be very upset.

That is sad news - what a terrible thing to happen.

Says here the library is lost

Oh no, that's awful. I'm also a Mackintosh fan, but love the building, too. I hope much of it can be saved.

Oh no - I'm a big Mackintosh fan and loved my visit to the School and Kelvingrove last summer.

How awful. Tragic, in fact.

Have just read the link; of course it's in danger. My son studied Mackintosh for his A Level Art and the visit to the school was the highlight of out weekend there. Don't think any news item like this has upset me so much before [I agree about the students and their work also but the building is very dear to my heart as is all of Mackintosh's work].

Just seen it on the news. Flames billowing from top floor, with fire having started in basement.

I feel so sorry for all the students, many of whom will have lost their end of year or end of course practical projects.
