Overheard in Waitrose!

Stansgran, have you checked to see if Waitrose in Hexham delivers to your postcode? It does to mine.

We have M&S in Loughborough but the council keep blocking Waitrose

I have to say Waitrose and M&S aim their products at the poshluxury end of the market and do stock niche products, but I cannot believe that the basic goods are any better than anywhere else, or worth paying any more for. ASDA yogurts are made by Yeo valley.

M&S in Crewe a town that suffered major financial decline after the closure of the British Rail and Rolls Royce car works has a food section that seems to pump out the smell of fresh butter croissants as you walk through the food hall.

I cannot imagine Waitrose would do well there. They have Asda, Aldi Morrisons and Tescos.

Asda seem to pump out hot cross bun smells into their car park.

We have a small Waitrose and a Sainsbury's near us. Waitrose is our first choice because it's small and you don't have to go on a twenty mile hike to find a pint of milk! I'm not sure whether we're worthy of Waitrose as we only have a teeny weeny Mr Men car

I had been wondering whether to mention this but seeing that bit about your car - well, pretty dreadful I think, but DS has a friend with very wealthy parents who live about 40 mins north of us, almost an hour to get into Bury St.Edmunds, but she drives in to do all her shopping there rather than the nearer shops. Then she leaves her car parked there all day and goes shopping and to the cinema or lunch. Which may not mean much to many of you, but they only give you 2 free hours (and you have to spend over £20) in that carpark and after that it is £25 for the day. She used to want to meet me for coffee and couldn't understand why I parked in Rams Meadow for under £3.

Agus shopping at Waitrose doesn't make you posh, but shopping in the Sunningdale branch definitely does I think they only let DD in because she has a doctorate !!!

I only go to Sunningdale for the Farrow and Ball shop. At least I can then go into Waitrose with my posh F and B carrier bag as proof of fitness to enter I only have Postgraduate education Deedaa, so I need supporting evidence

I don't have a Doctorate but I am a former Nurse. Would they let me in for some milk?

Oh, and I have Farrow and Ball in a couple of rooms. The only problem is, I haven't a clue where Sunningdale is

Cari Thank you for your concern, I used to be extremely intolerant to almost everything, but I'm now almost normal!
However, I still stick to gf bread and rice/coconut milk most of the time, just in case [fingers crossed]

I can even have a small now and again [jumps up and down with excitement]

I can still remember the first time one of my sisters bought me a bottle of something similar years ago - I was dumbfounded!

Blimey, I must be a little bit posh after all, as I've used ironing water for years! Not that I iron much, so it's not a huge expense. Granted it's Sainsburys - and the look of it is spoilt by the big label I always stick on that says Not a Drink! The bottles are too similar to my flavoured water ones for my liking and I'm getting on a bit and easily confused.

If you were properly posh you'd know that Sunningdale is just down the road from Wentworth Golf Course and, of course, Ascot is just round the corner. Well where else would you take your Waitrose picnic?

Deedaa, I live in Scotland . I do know of Ascot of course but Sunningdale and Wentworth Golf Course, afraid not but I get the picture, to be avoided

You're safe in Scotland Agus but if you venture down here beware of Wentworth when there's a big match on - the jams spread for miles, even Ascot isn't as bad. And, of course, someone rushing to see the golf in their mammoth 4X4 is SO much more important than some poor peasant trying to get to work. (Not sure DD would be impressed by being described as a poor peasant
