Cliff Richard - shock!

I heard on the 1 o'clock news that police are searching the Berkshire home of Cliff Richard regarding an alleged sex offence with a boy, aged under 16, dating back to the 1980's.

DD3 aged 27 is in shock and was heard to say 'What is the world coming to, it will be Terry Wogan and Bruce Forsyth next!'

It will be interesting to see whether the fact that it has been reported on television brings any more victims to the fore.

I feel a bit sorry for Sue Barker at the moment. I remember an article in the paper many years ago where a journalist had picked up an anecdote about her relationship with CR and wanted a quote. Her reply was, 'Oh please leave me alone. If I say anything, bloody Cliff will be on the phone!'

I hope she doesn't get pestered.

I have no particular feelings one way or the other about Cliff Richards. Years ago I liked some of his songs well enough to buy them, but I wasn't a particular fan. What I can't understand (and I expect I'll get shouted at!!!) is why it is taking these abused people SO long to accuse 'whoever'? It seems that it is one person after another being investigated - Surely after the Saville affair when these things were finally being taken seriously, anyone who felt that a public figure had abused them to the extent of blighting their lives would have come forward then - why leave it? why now? A good result from the Rolf Harris affair might result in a good outcome elsewhere?! I'm sorry, but I can't help but view all these allegations being drip fed year in year out as somewhat suspect. No, I have never been abused, but when I was 15 and on holiday with a school friend, her father made me feel very uncomfortable, just too attentive!! After that, despite being asked, I never went on holiday with them again and made sure I was never on my own with said man. That is what I couldn't understand with Rolf Harris's daughters friend, why on earth did she put herself in that position ALL the time if it was so dreadful? Perhaps more to it than met the eye?!!! Forty years along the line, could it be £££ signs flashing before your eyes? It's a thought!!!!!!

Have heard that he will possibly be denied access to the USA for the US OPEN, which he apparently goes to every year.

nigglynellie Sat 16-Aug-14 15:03:00

But he hasn't been found guilty of anything! Unbelievable!!

I know NIGGLY !!
I was surprised as well!

granjura Sat 16-Aug-14 15:38:30

They must more or less be all quaking in their boots...

HollyDaze Sat 16-Aug-14 16:13:40

Why was he giving up his British citizenship?

Nonu Sat 16-Aug-14 16:23:55

HOLLY

??

HollyDaze Sat 16-Aug-14 16:47:38

I'm just being nosey Nonu - it was mentioned on the news that he had either recently given up his British citizenship or was about to (can't remember which now) - I'm just wondering why; seems a bit late in the day to me given his age! I was curious about whether he was fed up of Britain or not.

It wasn't meant to imply anything untoward smile

granjura Sat 16-Aug-14 16:52:45

Usually has to do with taxes, with the very rich. Do you know which nationality he was planning on taking???

nigglynellie Sat 16-Aug-14 16:55:53

I seemed to have posted the same comment twice!! I did it from my Kindle and I'm never sure it it's gone or not!! I didn't know that C.R has, or is about to give up his British Citizenship! Even so, that still doesn't make him guilty of anything until a Jury says so. Like you Daze, I wonder why, particularly at his age - He may be considered to be Peter Pan, but in reality he aint!!!!

HollyDaze Sat 16-Aug-14 16:57:02

They didn't mention which nationality he wanted to adopt.

granjura Sat 16-Aug-14 16:57:16

Apparently now a citizen of Barbados- and has not paid tax in UK for a very long time. Seems that many people living in Barbados are wondering how on earth he got Barbadian citizenship, as it is normally only possible by marriage- money talks.

HollyDaze Sat 16-Aug-14 16:59:54

It is curious isn't it nellie but it's most likely for the reasons that granjura has given (although if his income is generated in the UK, he will still have to pay UK rates of tax on it).

HollyDaze Sat 16-Aug-14 17:03:01

Ah, so he has gone ahead and done it - thank you for putting curiosity (aka nosiness) to rest.

Money always talks and tends to talk loudest.

I wonder if the taxman was after his dues?

Nonu Sat 16-Aug-14 17:09:13

That is totally fascinating, One has to ask
WHY WHY.
Seems a bit fishy to me !

Granny23 Sat 16-Aug-14 17:15:40

Amazing that CR is one of the 200 celebrities who is a signatory to the Dan Snow 'Don't go' letter, when he has already 'gone' himself. Amazing that given the pages and pages of Celeb Gossip which fill our newspapers that none of us had been aware of this before. Obviously Money does Talk and members of the establishment stick up and cover up for each other. angry

Nonu Sat 16-Aug-14 17:44:22

GRANNY not sure who Dan Snow is . Any chance of a link?
smile

Lona Sat 16-Aug-14 18:50:09

Nonu Dan Snow is the son of John Snow the broadcaster.

numberplease Sat 16-Aug-14 19:18:10

Actually, he`s the son of PETER Snow, Jon Snow is his uncle I believe.

GrannyTwice Sat 16-Aug-14 19:42:44

I've always hated the whole celeb culture and the honours system and the talk of ' national treasures' and this CR business just confirms me in the rightness of my views - and how dare he say anything about the Scottish referendum? What an absolute shit he is to do this, keep his title, pay no taxes- absolute and utter hypocrite!

Lona Sat 16-Aug-14 19:44:55

I stand corrected then! grin Thanks number

Nonu Sat 16-Aug-14 19:46:21

OH right I have got it now Honeys,
Thanks.

grin
Enjoy your evening, I am going to!
