Quite rightly he's being suspended but should the BBC be cancelling episodes of Top Gear?

If a man working in a factory punches a colleague he would probably be sacked but I doubt they'd remove the product he was making from the shelves.

Lots of posts since I was constructing my last one.

Yes, thatbags doesnt mind bluntness.

If I overdid it, I am sorry.

thatbags Tue 17-Mar-15 08:42:15

Spot on, soon, about it being up to every individual "whether they choose not to guess whether someone is guilty or innocent of an alleged crime". The reverse, choosing to guess rather than waiting for (hopefully plain) facts is also an option. The former is the option I'm choosing.

Please don't apologise. There is no need.

There is a reason, a good one, why the word alleged is used in such cases.

I think it's a fairly safe bet that he did something reprehensible, though maybe not criminal.

The interesting thing for me is to see what will happen to him now. Will he be suspended/sacked or will his lofty status and friends in high places save him.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 17-Mar-15 09:33:04

My nine year old GS has decreed that he should be banned for just one programme, and then be allowed back. grin

granjura Tue 17-Mar-15 16:14:45

Why is it taking so long to make a decision- ridiculous.

vampirequeen Wed 18-Mar-15 09:35:46

I'm late to this and sorry if I'm repeating anything that has already been said but...

...I like Jeremy Clarkson.

Anniebach Wed 18-Mar-15 09:58:21

Would Clarkson fans still admire him if he thumped their son?

merlotgran Wed 18-Mar-15 10:17:35

We still don't know if he actually thumped the producer.

Marty Wed 18-Mar-15 10:27:12

I also like JC vampirequeen. I don't take anything he says seriously and I expect he doesn't either.

Anniebach why would Jeremy Clarkson thump anyone's son!!!

Anniebach Wed 18-Mar-15 10:39:12

Marty, I assume the man he allegedly thumped - he has not denied the accusation - has or had parents

I fully support the complains by the travelling community too , why should they not take being called pikeys offensive , should they not be offended because they are not middle class of Oxfordshire

Is it acceptable to offend because it wasn't allegedly meant to be taken seriously? Very Bernard Manning

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 18-Mar-15 10:51:37

Blimey! The DM's got a nerve! It was them that ran the headline about Clarkso/Saville. grin

Good for JC for fighting back about that. Hope he sues the newspapers as well. Diabolical.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 18-Mar-15 10:52:53

Anniebach don't let's get too emotional about this. They're grown men, and nobody died.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 18-Mar-15 10:55:33

Oh, roll on the day when British television is full of well behaved, politically correct, upstanding and totally boring non-personalities. It will keep the stuffed shirts quiet. Great. hmm

Jane10 Wed 18-Mar-15 11:19:00

Oh no it wont! We need all the Pantomime characters like Jezza we can get!! I'm with jings!

merlotgran Wed 18-Mar-15 11:23:11

Just a thought.....Some footballers have been accused of some really serious crimes like ABH and rape. Some have even served prison sentences.

I don't remember any football matches being cancelled as a result.

I could be wrong though hmm

rosequartz Wed 18-Mar-15 11:26:43

The issue is whether he committed a crime
thatbags I am not sure if that is the issue. The issue is that he was on a final warning and his employer is now considering another incident involving another member of staff which has resulted in his suspension. Whether it was a crime or not is beside the point - it is whether he has gone beyond an accepted level of behaviour resulting in his suspension and possible sacking by his employer.

Well, that is how I see it anyway.

I think because he has got away with so much political incorrectness and puerile behaviour over the years because he is a 'major talent' (not my words) and is very popular as a personality as well as for his programme that he thinks he can get away with anything.

In fact some would say that, until this latest incident, his utterances have been outrageous, probably unacceptable and very politically incorrect but hilarious over the years.

Not excusing him, but some people can get extremely irate when their blood sugar drops when they are hungry.

Elegran Wed 18-Mar-15 12:04:57

Going straight to the hot food, instead of (allegedly) spending three hours in the pub first, would probably have corrected the blood sugar level.

If a docker floors his wife for not having a hot meal instantly on the table when he gets home at an unpredictable hour from the pub, he could be on a charge for assault, particularly if he is on a final warning.

But we have still to hear the whole story.

rosequartz Wed 18-Mar-15 12:28:02

According to the media (the DM I think hmm ) he had not been drinking at all, Elegran, he had been working on, I think, scripts. His colleague James May had (allegedly) drunk a bottle of wine, but JC had not had anything alcoholic.

I am not excusing anything he is alleged to have done, just pointing out a possibility. Most people would say oh dear, I've missed dinner, I'll have to make do with whatever is on offer (if anything).
Most people are not divas (or divos)

loopylou Wed 18-Mar-15 12:28:28

To me it's depressing that he has such an apparent 'hold' over the BBC because of the money the programme brings.
For someone on a final warning the inquiry seems to be taking forever!

gillybob Wed 18-Mar-15 12:33:28

I no longer know who or what to believe. One thing for certain though is the manager of the hotel would not have stood for such behaviour from Joe Public and as for cooking him a steak after the chef had gone home well............................ hmm

merlotgran Wed 18-Mar-15 12:49:56

We had a pub and restaurant in the nineties, gillybob and I lost count of the number of times I cooked a meal for a customer after the chef had gone home.

You want people to come back

Although perhaps not in this case grin

rosequartz Wed 18-Mar-15 13:23:04

I remember arriving somewhere at 11.00 at night, tired and miserable after a train delay and having had nothing to eat since breakfast, thinking I would get a bag of crisps or a sandwich at the most, but the owner of the pub/restaurant very kindly cooked me a meal.

gillybob Wed 18-Mar-15 13:32:51

I was under the impression that food was on offer though merlotgran just not the food that he happened to want (steak). The point I was trying to make was I can't imagine anyone kicking off as he is alleged to have done and been rewarded with his demand for a steak. Asked to leave, more likely.

Anniebach Wed 18-Mar-15 14:45:38

Jinglebells, I am not at all emotional about this, nothing to get emotional about. I just question if those who are defending Clarkson would be quite so eager to do so if he had thumped a relative. As for them both being grown men assault is still assault regardless of age, either it's right or wrong, if it's acceptable for Clarkson it is acceptable for all surely
