Quite rightly he's being suspended but should the BBC be cancelling episodes of Top Gear?

If a man working in a factory punches a colleague he would probably be sacked but I doubt they'd remove the product he was making from the shelves.

Jen the welfare cuts thread posed the question 'how can the Government make £12 billion welfare cuts?'
The short answer is that none of us can possibly be expected to have a clue.
The OP then speculated that State Pension age might rise again.
As someone said on the thread, the increases to State pension age have been set for some time now and it's unlikely they will be changed again in the foreseable future.

That's whyIMHO the thread isn't very long. I didn't even read it until you mentioned it, because with all due respect to the OP it was an unanswerable question and therefore didn't interest me.

The other thing is that the Jeremy Clarkson fracas is something everybody feels entitled to have an opinion about.
In the past posters have said they don't post on threads about political issues partly because they don't know enough about the issues and partly because those threads often descend into acrimony.

This thread is a similar Marmite thread. Nobody still knows what exactly happened, but everybody gives an opinion.

We do have a vote on who governs us in seven weeks time; we do not have a vote on whether Clarkson stays or goes, more's the pity.

The government is going to make £12 billion welfare cuts if it gets in again. I do not think the intention was to ask us how, but to suggest it's impossible.

Many people wanted Jeremy Clarkson for Prime Minister.
Is that helpful as an answer?

(Just trying to work out some connection between the two threads but failing and confused)

This morning I went to buy Twiglets but they are now calling themselves 'Stiglets' and featured a picture of JC's sidekick on the packet. I do love Twiglets but just couldn't bring myself to endorse the 'brand'. I bought crisps instead. Was that cutting off my nose to spite my face?

As a TV license payer, I think I will start a petition to get rid of him. If anyone else behaved like this they would probably have ended up in court.

merlotgran Sat 21-Mar-15 17:02:07

I think there are already a couple of petitions to get rid of JC magpie.

thatbags Sat 21-Mar-15 17:10:46

Not everybody, jen. I'm still sitting on the fence with regard to the JC "fracas" because the facts of the case are not yet known unless, that is, thinking that he might have hit someone or he might not is having an opinion.

About the cuts in the national welfare bill, I'm with janea—haven"t a clue.

feetlebaum Sat 21-Mar-15 17:30:28

Lots of handbag clutching and pursed lips round here...

janeainsworth Sat 21-Mar-15 17:55:06

I hope that wasn't intended as a sexist observation Feetlebaumshock

Jane10 Sat 21-Mar-15 17:55:26

Looks like he could be back filming Top Gear but with a 'minder' to ensure he doesn't go too far. Think he's thinking it over. Interesting compromise.

rosequartz Sat 21-Mar-15 18:11:44

Do you mean round at your house feetle? grin

please post a photo!

Ana Sat 21-Mar-15 18:12:42

Mishap Sat 21-Mar-15 18:13:13

Where did you find that piece of info Jane? - I can't find it on the net.

soontobe Sat 21-Mar-15 18:16:38

I havent seen what you are talking about Jane10, but a "minder" gives me a mental image of him being about 6.
I have an image of him being on reins next.

Ana Sat 21-Mar-15 18:16:45

Another DM excusive!

rosequartz Sat 21-Mar-15 18:16:51

I saw that too, online somewhere (sorry, I read it and it flitted through my mind). He will have a different producer who will take charge of him.
Will they ever find anyone?

Ana Sat 21-Mar-15 18:17:05

I accept that the BBC makes a lot of money through Top Gear being shown in countries all over the world but I have read estimates of how much that vary between £30 and £55 million. Does anyone know the actual figure?

merlotgran Sat 21-Mar-15 18:42:57

According to DM

Ana Sat 21-Mar-15 18:43:11

Your google is as good as mine, absent!

Ana Sat 21-Mar-15 18:44:05

Oh, thanks merlot!

Mishap Sat 21-Mar-15 18:56:41

Money talks it would seem!

I would not want to be his "minder" - I would demand a crash helmet and suit of armour!

Anya Sat 21-Mar-15 18:57:14

I think "Feeble* has said that before....hmm

Ana Sat 21-Mar-15 18:58:31

Yes, but wasn't it clutching pearls, not handbags?
