Have you noticed that, when 100 industrialists wrote a letter to the Telegraph supporting the Conservatives, it was all over the News channels, whereas a letter by 140 leading medics revealing the truth about the decline of the NHS, the BBC has been strangely reticent?

Joke Alert durhamjen
I thought the wink was supposed to give it away!

durhamjen Sun 12-Apr-15 22:12:32

Anyone else received this, about tax dodging. It's so simple.

Why should s/he?
I think politics is more important than football. My son and grandson disagree, although they are quite interested in politics.

rosequartz Sun 12-Apr-15 16:52:54

I scored 5 and I am relieved not to have scored more! - I have enjoyed the last week and watched catchup tv instead of the news some evenings.

I did get the one about the Football World Cup correct: has the person who said that never heard of Bill Shankly?
To paraphrase: Some people think football is a matter of life and death - I assure you it's much more important than that.

Will that person lose any votes because of what he/she said, I wonder? wink

Charleygirl Sun 12-Apr-15 13:55:19

I managed 6 and was amazed I had scored so high.

durhamjen Sun 12-Apr-15 11:03:16

I was just pleased I could remember so much!

Getting serious again, this is important for the next government.

Because many of the questions were trivial and there is more to life than following all the election coverage in detail.

Eloethan Sun 12-Apr-15 00:20:40

6 - just guessed some of them.

durhamjen Sun 12-Apr-15 00:10:25

Why, grumppa?

grumppa Sat 11-Apr-15 23:58:21

5. I would have been worried if I had scored more!

durhamjen Sat 11-Apr-15 23:34:02

8

GrannyTwice Sat 11-Apr-15 23:00:31

Come on DJ - what did you get?

GrannyTwice Sat 11-Apr-15 22:59:56

7 but clearly the ones I didn't know were of no import

Soutra Sat 11-Apr-15 22:09:56

I was even worse Ariadne. - 5/10 " could do better" shock

Ariadne Sat 11-Apr-15 21:16:26

Oh dear! And I thought I was on the ball, or at least a little bit....6 out of ten and one was a guess. blush

durhamjen Sat 11-Apr-15 17:33:49

How much can you remember about politics this week?

durhamjen Sat 11-Apr-15 17:07:05

Good ideas here.

www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2015/04/10/tax-headline-makers/

The idea that Labour are now ahead in the polls because of their stance on non-doms reinforces what I said earlier.
I think they should agree to his HMRC ideas, too.

Ana Sat 11-Apr-15 15:34:47

The survey was conducted last year, so probably there would be slight differences now - broadly in line with the rest of the UK was the only point I was making, which as I say, I found surprising.

durhamjen Sat 11-Apr-15 14:06:14

I look at three political websites to check up on who is ahead and on all three of them it is Labour. I look at the BBC, Guardian and New Statesman, all of which collect together a lot of polls. Labour has been ahead all this week, by 1% in BBC, 2% in Guardian and 3% in New Statesman.

www.politics.co.uk/blogs/2015/04/10/the-most-embarrassing-election-leaflets-of-2015

A bit of light relief.

Ana Fri 10-Apr-15 20:07:42

Another thing about the survey results I found surprising was that even though Labour has gained a lot of the support it had lost at the end of its last term of office, the Conservative vote is still ahead, albeit by a very small margin.

Also, UKIP had twice as much support as the Greens.

It seems as though Gransnet members (at least those who took part in the survey) are largely in tune with the rest of the UK population as far as their voting preferences are concerned.

rosequartz Fri 10-Apr-15 19:14:01

I think soon is right though! grin

I was very impressed at the efficient foodbank collection in the supermarket we went to today; they had umpteen crates in the foyer and as people donated stuff they sorted it there and then.

Iam64 Fri 10-Apr-15 18:34:27

An expert now soontobe?

soontobe Fri 10-Apr-15 18:33:37

I have looked for the survery but I cannot find it.

1047 is about the number that are polled for national polls, so that is a good number.

I often think that left-wingers talk more about their politics than right-wingers do.

Ana Fri 10-Apr-15 17:58:48

Mind you, only 1047 took part.

Ana Fri 10-Apr-15 17:53:01

On a different note, I was surprised at the results of the Gransnet election survey. I honestly thought the majority of GN members were left-wingers or at least left of centre, but it would appear not.
