and I'm am really fed up of all the vitriol aimed at people like me. When did the country become so intolerant and judgmental? Why are we not allowed to hold different opinions? Debate is good and can achieve progress but insults just cause division confused

loopylou Fri 08-May-15 20:16:50

Of course Ana! Might as well rosesarered, and the weather grin
And, of course, all those millions who voted Conservative were utterly misguided, poor souls.

kittylester Fri 08-May-15 20:17:23

DH always says 'I blame Tony Blair!' grin

rosesarered Fri 08-May-15 20:17:28

grin

durhamjen Fri 08-May-15 20:18:15

You wait until they frack under your house, roses.

I've got an idea. Anyone who just wants a cosy little discussion with like-minded people should put the topic on the chat thread. Leave the politics thread for those who like a nice argument.
That way, you will not get upset.

durhamjen Fri 08-May-15 20:19:28

I blame Tony Blair for a lot as well, kitty.

rosesarered Fri 08-May-15 20:19:34

Dj, we are happy and laughing it is you that is upset.

Ana Fri 08-May-15 20:21:02

The left always say 'I blame Thatcher' grin

Loopylou, according to some link or other, hardly anyone voted conservative at all, it's all the fault of our voting system! hmm

Ana Fri 08-May-15 20:24:00

I have noticed, durhamjen, that you're quite happy to have cosy little chats with those on your own wavelength on the politics threads. Why shouldn't we?

rosesarered Fri 08-May-15 20:33:16

You know the answer to that Ana, !

loopylou Fri 08-May-15 20:34:06

Oh! Of course Ana! Silly me blush

The title of this thread might just be a clue to the less happy?

Tegan Fri 08-May-15 20:39:24

I could be wrong here but imo Labour/LibDem voters are more open to critiscising their party eg I've admitted that I wasn't comfortable with the idea of Ed being Prime Minister..most of us have seem to dislike Blair for things that he did [and is still doing]. And yet I've never heard a Conservative voter say that Mrs Thatcher did some pretty unpleasant things. This is just an observation, by the way and I'm not saying that it's right..just saying it's how I perceive it to be.

loopylou Fri 08-May-15 20:44:05

Could well be so Tegan
IMO they're also obviously less vociferous and militant.

Ana Fri 08-May-15 20:49:17

Are you just talking about this site, Tegan? If so, it could be because hardly any Conservative voters dare to out themselves, let alone mention the T word.

I wonder how many of those who criticise Blair now, voted for him in 1997. It's easy to find fault when disillusion has set in, or with hindsight.

Jane10 Fri 08-May-15 20:49:41

I'm not a conservative voter. We suffered under Thatcher. Redundancy after redundancy. It was hellish at the time. In retrospect, I think she did what needed to be done. Will now change name in case the militant socialist Grans come calling!

Ana Fri 08-May-15 20:50:48

grin

loopylou Fri 08-May-15 20:52:50

I'm not a Conservative voter either and I agree Jane10, the country was being held to ransom by the Left.

I'll just duck grin

rosesarered Fri 08-May-15 20:55:41

Tegan, I think that was because Mrs T was a long time ago, in fact we forget how long ago it really was.Later, Labour was in power for so many years.

kittylester Fri 08-May-15 21:01:53

This is one Tory who will say Maggie did somethings wrong - she also did some good things! Which is similar to most political leaders!

nightowl Fri 08-May-15 21:08:11

Thatcher certainly saw off the unions. Now we bemoan the fact that people are working for less than the minimum wage and wonder how our children's generation can ever get mortgages with the rise in the numbers of zero hours contracts. Success!!!

durhamjen Fri 08-May-15 21:13:45

I'm trying hard to think of them, but you'll have to remind me of the good things, kitty.

GrannyTwice Fri 08-May-15 21:15:19

'Are you just talking about this site, Tegan? If so, it could be because hardly any Conservative voters dare to out themselves, let alone mention the T word.'

This is a joke right?

Jane10 Fri 08-May-15 21:15:52

Our children might not be saddled by crippling national debt. That would be a result. They might get real jobs in a working economy. A good start.

GrannyTwice Fri 08-May-15 21:16:09

Oh kitty - do tell!

Ana Fri 08-May-15 21:16:35

Perhaps you should do more research, durhamjen. Without your red-tinted spectacles on! hmm

Ana Fri 08-May-15 21:17:59

No, GT it was not a joke. Why would you think that?
