Were you offended?

When David Cameron used the word 'swarm' in relation the the migrants in Calais.
The media are doing their best to make me think that I should be. I keep thinking about it, and I'm not.

Elegran Fri 31-Jul-15 19:54:51

Or perhaps your reading of thatbags' latest post is much better than your reading of her others, soontobe

I for one was not under the misconception that she was condoning racism or bullying by saying that there was a lot of intolerance around among those who keep being offended where they have no right to be - it was just your conclusion.

Elegran Fri 31-Jul-15 19:58:25

I am sure they knew when they set out that they would not be housed in luxury, and the preferred just being housed to what they fled from. Sometimes it seems that some posters search very hard for bad attitudes on the part of others.

soontobe Fri 31-Jul-15 20:01:00

You have added words that I did not say Elegran.

thatbags has now cleared up her posts by rewording them.

Ana Fri 31-Jul-15 20:03:59

So no apology from you for your misinterpretation of the previous posts (which no one other than you saw as 'racist' in any way) soontobe?

thatbags Fri 31-Jul-15 20:05:52

I think war zones and jungles are even more appalling, annieb. Of course proper homes in safe places are preferable. I don't believe I ever implied otherwise. I simply questioned the use of phrases like "far worse [than jungles]" and "not fit for animals", which I regard as excessively emotive and, quite frankly, mistaken.

thatbags Fri 31-Jul-15 20:07:27

No apology required, ana. It's just her way.

Elegran Fri 31-Jul-15 20:08:40

When you said "So racism is now allowed thatbags and Gracesgran because the person complaining about the slur is being intolerant?" I think what you meant there was that thatbags and gracesgran were condoning racism, soontobe. I have not added anything to what you said, I did not need to.

Ana Fri 31-Jul-15 20:09:29

That's as maybe, thatbags, but that way strikes me as rude.

thatbags Fri 31-Jul-15 20:10:50

Shrug. I just thought it laughable and typical of "offence-taking".

thatbags Fri 31-Jul-15 20:12:55

What elegran calls "looking for bad attitudes" in other posters.

Elegran Fri 31-Jul-15 20:15:01

I smiled at the way the misunderstanding was turned into thatbags fault, and how thatbags further answer was now "much better".

thatbags Fri 31-Jul-15 20:17:59

Yes. Quite impressively manipulative. Hey ho.

To get back to the case in point: here is an article from HuffPo by Robin Lustig. The comments are worth reading too.

petra Fri 31-Jul-15 20:26:51

Anniebach. I'm not saying it's right. It should never have got to this stage thanks to our glorious leaders all over Europe.
You use the slum. I could take you on a 3hr30 flight to slums in EUROPE that would make you weep. There are thousands of people living with NO mains water or electricity.
I have seen much much worse around the world.

soontobe Fri 31-Jul-15 20:29:15

I didnt misinterpret them Ana.

I read what she wrote. She wrote them not in the way that she meant them.

She then chose to rewrite them in the way that she says that she did mean.

soontobe Fri 31-Jul-15 20:30:49

I dont know thatbags.
She often says that she is a big fan of freedom of speech.
Her original posts read quite badly indeed.

soontobe Fri 31-Jul-15 20:33:09

I assume that she did not mean her original posts.
I am now questioning my thoughts on that.

soontobe Fri 31-Jul-15 20:35:03

And wondering about the posters defending her posts. hmm

soontobe Fri 31-Jul-15 20:38:23

I can feel myself being drawn into things on here.
I know now to put a stop on it by stopping posting.

rosequartz Fri 31-Jul-15 20:43:16

I wish the Tories would get a grip on the weather, it is so changeable at the moment, not at all like July.

At last they are getting a grip, it has been glorious today (or perhaps that was the Labour administration in Wales that managed to produce a day of sunshine?)

petra Fri 31-Jul-15 20:57:09

Soontobe. When your in a hole, stop digging.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 31-Jul-15 21:37:33

petra it wasn't only Eloethan who wondered what you meant by your remark. I wondered as well. Perhaps you could explain on-thread?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 31-Jul-15 21:40:25

I haven't read all the boring arguments stated on this thread, but no way do I believe soon would ever be racist.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 31-Jul-15 21:42:28

And if I hear that stupid phrase "when you're in a hole etc" all hell could well break out on GN.

Get original.

Ana Fri 31-Jul-15 21:43:57

Oh FGS...perhaps you should read the thread jingl before you start jumping to conclusions...hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 31-Jul-15 21:44:16

Or Bags. (would be racist)
