This is Alex Salmond's comment on how Cameron is dealing with the migrant crisis.

As shame in my countries response was what I have been feeling, I can only agree with him.

See discussion above rosesarered.
djen is going back to the original, though, and singing this version:
Rosequartz, can I sing "Oh Tannenbaum" instead?
Next line translates as how green are your leaves

Can you hear her? She has a lovely voice wink

Ana Sat 05-Sept-15 18:25:12

Well, I wish she'd pipe down! Far too early to be singing Christmas songs...hmm

rosequartz Sat 05-Sept-15 18:35:24

It's the Green Theme innit.

Ana Sat 05-Sept-15 18:39:17

Yes, I did get that...

rosequartz Sat 05-Sept-15 18:41:54

grin

She's loud, isn't she, I can hear her from Wales!!

Keep on, djen, lovely voice smile

Eloethan Your first sentence also describes Malaysia. What joins this country and the whole Arab League together is Islam. Otherwise it is being Muslim brethren - as the majority of Pakistanis are and who work in the Gulf. If I may further quote.

.... social media are bristling over the fact the rich Arab Gulf states do not offer the same welcome, there seems little likelihood the situation will change. The reason is the Gulf Arab states' aversion to granting refugee status, not just to Syrians but to anybody.

www.businessinsider.com/heres-why-rich-arab-gulf-states-wont-welcome-syrian-refugees-2015-9#ixzz3kszAwvGH

And yet, Europe is being called out on Human Rights irrespective of race, creed or religion. And yet, you read all the time that people want to go back to the land of their birth and their families. So, perhaps DC could be proved accurate in saying that the refugee crises should be dealt with in their homeland. But will we ever see Arab boots on the ground against a brother Muslim. It took them long enough to get in the air with the coalition it approved of and requested, and that was probably because IS used suicide bombers in the Gulf states.

I heard on Radio 4 today that Austria says it will take any refugees who can get to her borders. Of course this country has to given its history pre 1945 and her infamous son.

I also noted on Al Jazeera yesterday that Mr Putin is in talks with Bashir al Assad in order to encourage him to allow a democratic moderate party run against his Ba ath majority party. So the exodus that started in 2011 could well turn around. There is a lot of work to be done to re-build Syria. They will need their refugees to do this. Perhaps their brethren in the Gulf states will also supply financial aid, etc.

Good luck to these refugees if they end up in Austria CelticRose, not a country well known for it's welcome to differing races, and a lot of [real] fascists groups there too.
I think that a lot of Syrian refugeees would go back home later, if things improve there for the future.

rosesarered Sun 06-Sept-15 13:32:27

RQ, have listened hard but...... nope, no singing of the red flag/tannenbaum or anything to be heard here!

rosesarered Sun 06-Sept-15 13:34:18

mabybe next Saturday though... if Corby gets elected? grin

Gracesgran Mon 07-Sept-15 10:01:43

Do you feel the whole of Corby is going to lead the Labour Party rosesarered. Interesting. I don't know if those living there know they have put themselves up for election smile.

Ana Mon 07-Sept-15 10:12:33

No, it's Corby Trouserpress, a surprise nomination sneaked in by certain members outraged by the lack of sartorial elegance displayed by at least one of the other candidates smile

Gracesgran Mon 07-Sept-15 10:15:04

grin Ana

rosequartz Mon 07-Sept-15 10:26:41

The wind must be in the wrong direction, rosesarered! All quiet here too since the breeze changed direction. grin

Mrs Merkel and many Germans have been very welcoming but some Germans are very rightwing and intolerant too.
Still, better than what the refugees have come from.

rosesarered Mon 07-Sept-15 12:47:16

grin RQ
Corby is my sweet little name for JC.smile

rosequartz Mon 07-Sept-15 14:22:25

shock sounds like pillow talk, rosesarered blush

rosesarered Mon 07-Sept-15 14:51:56

well, I didn't want to mention it RQ, but.........

POGS Mon 07-Sept-15 15:48:10

Well apparently the UK will be taking a further 20.000 refugees.

I thought Cameron made a perfectly speech.

durhamjen Mon 07-Sept-15 15:53:19

In the lifetime of this parliament, not now. Is that acceptable, POGS? It could be none this year.

durhamjen Mon 07-Sept-15 16:12:23

Just listened to Gerald Kaufman talking about the kindertransport.
I think they wanted to clap him, but couldn't because of protocol.

Cameron has admitted to killing a British subject in Syria by drone. He's going to be in trouble for that.

Ana Mon 07-Sept-15 16:19:52

An Islamic State fighter from Cardiff was killed by an RAF drone strike in "an act of self-defence", David Cameron has confirmed.

He told the Commons that police and security services have stopped at least six terrorist attacks against Britain in the last 12 months.

He added that the risk to Britain from Islamist extremist violence is "more acute today than ever before".

Why is Cameron 'going to be in trouble' for that?

durhamjen Mon 07-Sept-15 16:23:07

Because he asked for permission in 2013 and parliament voted against it.
I thought we were still a democracy, but obviously not.

Ana Mon 07-Sept-15 16:27:37

Mr Cameron said the operation was legal under international law: "We were exercising the UK's inherent right to self-defence.

"The air strike was the only feasible means of effectively disrupting the attacks planned."

Perhaps they'll let him off in the circumstances, although I expect you'd rather they didn't, dj...

durhamjen Mon 07-Sept-15 16:29:11

There are 217,000 Syrians in refugee camps on the borders of Syria at the moment. Cameron is prepared to take 20,000 over the next five years.

Are Syrians likely to say they will go to those camps to get to the UK? Unlikely, I would think.

Gracesgran Mon 07-Sept-15 16:58:18

The refugees that will be coming into the country will no be given refugee status so will have no right to residence.
