Bugger it that's the next election lost.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 14-Sept-15 14:13:11

Yes. I support a worker's right to strike, when absolutely necessary. I do not think it often necessary these days tbh, but that's just my view.

There is a lot to be said for the Bill. "a minimum 50% turnout in strike ballots" isn't a lot to ask. If people don't turn out, that most likely means they are feeling ok with their present terms.

And what's wrong with any of this ?:

"The bill will also:

Double the amount of notice unions have to give before a strike can be held - from seven to 14 days
Allow employers to use agency workers to replace striking staff
Introduce fines of up to £20,000 on unions if pickets do not wear an official armband
End the so-called check-off system for collecting union subs direct from a salary"

rosequartz Mon 14-Sept-15 14:08:56

or was that another joke?

rosequartz Mon 14-Sept-15 14:08:21

Rosequartz, as far as I am concerned any Conservative who has voted for the destruction of the NHS and the welfare state is a hypocrite. That's an awful lot of them.

I have no idea whatsoever what this has to do with this thread??

rosequartz Mon 14-Sept-15 14:04:51

Although I find it hard to believe that anyone thinking Hilary Benn is a woman is all that interested in politics anyway.
Joke alert!!
And I have a couple of male friends called Kerry and one called Ceri

durhamjen Mon 14-Sept-15 14:02:44

Ana, how do you know I wasn't joking?

durhamjen Mon 14-Sept-15 14:01:09

Rosequartz, as far as I am concerned any Conservative who has voted for the destruction of the NHS and the welfare state is a hypocrite. That's an awful lot of them.

Eloethan Mon 14-Sept-15 13:58:49

POGS I know Corbyn thanked every union that supported him. He isn't trying to play down Labour's strong association with the unions. I can't imagine Cameron publicly listing the Conservatives' major donors - and the companies they own/founded - and thanking them.

The Guardian has listed the posts announced so far. This shows a virtual 50/50 gender split:

I think rosequartz was joking, durhamjen, although I know humour is not your forté.

durhamjen Mon 14-Sept-15 13:57:12

For anyone who is interested in Corbyn's ideas on the economy, this is an interesting read.

theconversation.com/jeremy-corbyn-and-the-economics-of-the-real-world-47314

Give you something to slag him off about instead of how many women he has in his shadow cabinet.

Just out of interest, how long did it take Cameron to fill up that many posts after he was elected in May?

durhamjen Mon 14-Sept-15 13:48:19

If you read down to 12.43 on this you will see Corbyn's response to gender bias.

Of the 29 posts he has announced, there are 15 female.
For those who do not know that Hilary Benn is a man, I think you should know that Kerry McCarthy is a woman, to iron out any doubt.
Although I find it hard to believe that anyone thinking Hilary Benn is a woman is all that interested in politics anyway.

Someone has decided on what the top jobs are - I imagine way back in the days of Empire and I also imagine they had the biggest budgets. Perhaps now is the time to review what is most important to the country. They may not change ... but they just may.

rosequartz Mon 14-Sept-15 13:23:12

According to the BBC health and education secretaries are not top jobs

And yet they are departments that affect the majority of people in the country

I suppose the 'top jobs' for the opposition are Leader of the Opposition, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, Shadow Foreign Secretary, Shadow Home Secretary.

Anniebach Mon 14-Sept-15 13:09:16

Jingle, do you support a workers right to strike?

Anniebach Mon 14-Sept-15 13:07:09

According to the BBC health and education secretaries are not top jobs

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 14-Sept-15 13:05:51

That's what it started out as ab, but now, with this incentive, they intend to bring the government down.

rosequartz Mon 14-Sept-15 13:05:20

Oh dear .....

I did think he wouldn't put her anywhere Education - that would be red flag rag to a bull

Anniebach Mon 14-Sept-15 13:03:10

Why not? Where did he say he would only appoint those who shared ALL his views would not be appointed ? In fact he said the opposite

rosequartz Mon 14-Sept-15 13:00:12

And why was Mark Serwotka not allowed to vote in the leadership election? [surprised]
He seems to be coming to the fore now though.

I am just very confused

rosequartz Mon 14-Sept-15 12:59:01

I asked before, but haven't got anyone's views yet:

How come the allegedly principled Jeremy Corbyn has appointed the allegedly hypocritical Diane Abbott to a Shadow Ministerial post?

Ceesnan Mon 14-Sept-15 12:57:40

FFS!! "defending against the government's proposed anti union laws" what planet are you on? They want to bring the country to its knees, get rid of the government and put their Left Wing puppet in power. God help us all!

Anniebach Mon 14-Sept-15 12:49:36

Jingle , they are defending against the governments proposed anti union laws not threatening the country

POGS Mon 14-Sept-15 12:47:51

Daily Politics today has just had Mark Serwotka talking from Brighton, it was interesting!
He did at one point say there should be co-ordinated strikes if public sector workers pay does not increase.

Anniebach .

Don't ask me ask Jeremy it was his words not mine. You have the connection after all.

Eloethan

The Unions will inevitably be brought into the debate! How can it not ? Corbyn thanked practically every one of the unions for backing him in the Leadership Election.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 14-Sept-15 12:46:07

Corbyn's election is just what the Trade Unionists were waiting for. The starting gun has been fired.

Fear for the nation's economy.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 14-Sept-15 12:40:08

"Rob Williams, of the National Shop Stewards Network said: ??The victory yesterday by Jeremy Corbyn has changed everything. The vote we saw yesterday was a political revolution. We must build a mass movement against austerity and the anti-union laws.
??The message must be simple ?? 'Cameron: we are going to take you down. Your anti-union Bill and your cuts, you??re going down because we are mobilising against you??.
??If this goes into law, we want mass coordinated strike action.??

Something to look forward to, eh? hmm

Ana Mon 14-Sept-15 12:37:06

The Telegraph will be sneered at too, jingl, as it's a right-wing publication...wink
