New year/term, same old poo.

First anti-democratic point - £600 to be charged for information under the FOI

Second anti-democratic point and something that far left MP David Davis described as Franco's Spain. The requirement under the trade union bill for names, movement, social media use, etc to be given to the police prior to any action taken.

Another climbdown from the Queens speech. Didn't take long did it?

This relates to our old friend TTIP.

Corbyn has said he will vote against the bill unless there is a clear safeguard to the NHS -at present there is none.

The Tories are intent on selling off the NHS to the Americans.

durhamjen Fri 20-May-16 00:13:04

Over 144,000 signatures now on the petition about tuition fees. That's since the queen's speech.

durhamjen Fri 20-May-16 00:07:34

Gracesgran, John Healey said the same about the speech.
What a waste of time, he said. He counted 42 pieces of legislation and only four of them were new.

Nearly 40,000 signatures now.

My eldest granddaughter was in the fortunate position of only having to pay £3000 a year for her degree. She had been going to take a year out, but decided it would be daft to pay three times as much.
Her sister lives near Cambridge, and wanted to go there. She'll never be able to afford it if she has to pay even more in tuition fees.

I am sure lots of your grandchildren will be in the same position.

Gracesgran Wed 18-May-16 22:34:58

I cannot believe how "green" the Conservatives have become - almost the whole of the Queen's speech seems to have been recycled either from previous announcements or even previous Queen's speeches. They must be busy with something else at the moment and worrying that it may tear their party apart. Hmm.

durhamjen Wed 18-May-16 21:06:58

Following today's Queen's speech, Corbyn has set up a petition against the idea of increasing fees for degrees.

A strange looking link, but it works. Nearly 25,000 signatures already.

Amnesty have one about the Human Rights Act. It seems weird that a group like Amnesty are having to try and protect UK Human Rights.

whitewave Wed 18-May-16 07:34:33

Yes I know about Bill of Rights, but hoping if vote is remain the ECHR will override it. If Brexit -heaven help us.

Yes also about HoL reform. They are all bitter and twisted because they don't have a majority, so will manipulate one instead. What it is really about is their incompetence and lack of ability at forming anything remotely like good legislation. I have never known such an incompetent government.

durhamjen Tue 17-May-16 23:51:09

Bill of Rights and Lords reform will both be in there. The Lords reform is to stop the Lords from watering down the government laws which they try to get through by the back door without any discussion in the commons.
It's a clever government trick, making them more and more like a dictatorship.

It matters.

whitewave Tue 17-May-16 20:40:18

Not that it matters their legislation is mostly rubbish anyway, look how much has been abandoned. They haven't succeeded on a single budgetary target either.

whitewave Tue 17-May-16 20:35:51

Why is there a state opening tomorrow, I thought it happened in November after the summer recession?

durhamjen Tue 17-May-16 19:53:00

What I'd really like to know is who pays the court fees.

Government being taken to court again. Breaking its own laws.

Anyone admit to voting for this?

Another u-turn. No job centre employees in foodbanks, even though last week Stephen Crabb said it was a good idea.
He's got more problems than IDS has. Except he got the job because he wants us to stay in the EU.

durhamjen Sun 15-May-16 22:27:28

Yes, trisher, I agree. They all left Syria together, rather than be killed. They split up because the father came over here to get asylum. Then he applied for the family to join him, but only his wife and younger children can come. It's just cruel.

trisher Sun 15-May-16 21:50:36

It must be heartbreaking to know if they are 18 you can be torn apart from them. It is inhuman. They have suffered enough.

This is specifically about Theresa May, and refugee families.
Please sign. Just because they are over 18 doesn't mean they are not children, or family.

Fortunately his MP is on his side, and wants Stephen Crabb to reverse the decision immediately, without having to go through the rotten system.

trisher Sun 15-May-16 10:06:13

It's disgusting. Thank goodness for Ken Loach. Have you noticed that no-one who posts right wing responses has come onto this thread to support this government's actions?

Eloethan Sun 15-May-16 09:54:58

Apparently, because he can walk the requisite distance and can rise from a chair, that makes him fit for work. The man is 50, has an ongoing condition and is paralysed down one side. It's just an excuse to cut people's benefits - I don't think there's any real expectation that people of this sort of age and with fairly serious disabilities will be able to find work.

durhamjen Sun 15-May-16 00:51:34

He's also going to lose his ESA allowance, over £150 per fortnight.

Ken Loach does it again. Can't imagine it will move our government to tears, though. They are probably justifying what they do, ready for the papers.

I have just read an article about a man who had a massive stroke and has had a third of his skull removed to relieve the pressure on his brain. He is waiting for operations to put in plates to protect his brain.
He has been told he is fit to work!
Absolutely disgusting.
Who voted for this? I hope you are ashamed.
