Labour MP's harassment

For a while now there have been reports of Labour MP's being bullied, harassed by left wing activists. They have been threatened with deselection, sent photos of dead babies to put pressure on them to vote on Syria etc.

Yesterday during the Syrian debate many Labour MP's made reference to this happening and Labour MP John Mann called for Cameron to apologise for his words but also said the Labour front bench should also apologise for the harassment the Labour MP's were recieving. Labour MP Stella Creasy literally left the debate to go to her office as the staff were receiving phone abuse and there were anti war campaigners causing them harassment. This point will be refuted by those who attended so we must all make our own decision as to whom we believe.

I mentioned in posts last night how disgusting I think this behaviour is on the Should we bomb Deash/IS thread. I genuinely feel very sorry for the Labour MP's and to be honest I think there is going to be more trouble ahead if the Labour Party do not back their MP's a little harder than has happened so far.

What gives people the right to assume their opinion , their view should not be doubted, not debated and must be adhered to or they resort to threatening behaviour. It is not democratic and I agree with those MP's and commentators who believe this wave of activism is a backward move for the Labour Party..

It is acceptable if it's the truth Anya , the night you ridiculed me I was exhausted, I typed troupes not troops, an error which could have been ignored , you chose to ridicule

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:18:21

Gilly disillusionment is a hard pill to swallow isn't it? You ought to live where I do and see the corruption in local Tory-led government.

You're probably correct, it does cut across the political spectrum.

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 14:18:36

Personally I think its just sad to deliberately point out someone's spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Pathetic even. Unless of course the mistake makes a serious post sound really funny, in which case fair game

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:21:01

Really Annie ? Are you sure that was me because I think you're mistaking me for someone else.

You need to get your facts right before you make rude remarks.

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 14:21:23

Sadly you are right Anya. I was young still am and really thought that "the Labour party stood for me and my way of life" How wrong I was.

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:23:05

In fact Annie as so many people appear to be condemning me out of hand, would you please post a link to that. If you are correct I will of course apologise, if you are wrong I'll expect the apology.

Ana Thu 03-Dec-15 14:24:23

And before anyone leaps to assumptions, it wasn't me either!

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 14:24:36

I think this must be a thread within a thread. I'm easily confuddled though.

POGS Thu 03-Dec-15 14:25:17

Luckygirl

We do know how far the line has been crossed and it has been going on for a while certainly during the Labour Leadership election up to now.

Some MP's have been threatened with deselection if they do not back Corbyn , pictures of dead babies and messages of you are a warmongerer, a terrorist with blood on your hands have been received and death threats have been reported.

I think that is most definitely crossing the line.

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 14:26:01

I have to go out now. I'll tag this thread as 'watching' and ge back to it later when all my duties are done.

loopylou Thu 03-Dec-15 14:57:23

Whilst presumably Corbyn didn't sanction the bullying mollie, nevertheless it's within his party.
There are bullying tactics on both sides, truly unpleasant and puts MPs in a very poor light IMO.

mollie Thu 03-Dec-15 15:02:28

But we know that MPs are self-serving and truly unpleasant, don't we? The half-decent ones get over-looked or are labelled cranks...

Stansgran Thu 03-Dec-15 15:24:14

I am one of those unfortunate souls for whom a spelling mistake negates anything sensible or interesting which the poster writes. I think it's like a form of dyslexia for me. I don't even read posts where there is a mistake in the heading but I don't think I've seen anyone comment either.

possiblybecauseihaventreadanyfurther

gillybob Thu 03-Dec-15 15:46:28

Really Stansgran? confused

trisher Thu 03-Dec-15 16:01:57

As the mother of a dyslexic I find this highly insulting to those with a real disability. Would you for example make the same remark about someone who was blind?- oh I can't bear to look at that I suppose it's the same as being blind- I don't think so. Hidden disabilities are not something that should be treated so lightly either.

Elegran Thu 03-Dec-15 16:08:30

Read stansgran's post again, Trisher. I think she is saying that it is as though she has dyslexia, and seeing mistakes makes it difficult for her to read any further.

trisher Thu 03-Dec-15 16:19:40

But that is totally different to really being dyslexic and being unable to read or write without a great deal of effort. In fact the poster making the errors may be dyslexic. As I said it is a disability not a choice. Saying a spelling mistake negates what someone says isn't acceptable criticism.

rosesarered Thu 03-Dec-15 16:23:15

Just watching tv interviews now, Labour's John Mann complaining about the Socialist bully boys, Stella Creasy had to leave the Commons during the debate to cope with her office staff who were being sent horrible abuse. Some woman from the Walthamstow Socialists is also on, saying that she and others will do what they can to get her reselected ! unbelievable. So much for a free vote, they only believe in democracy when it suits them, what a shower these people are.

Anya Thu 03-Dec-15 16:25:08

Well I'm back now and still waiting Annie ....

rosesarered Thu 03-Dec-15 16:31:31

It was not Anya that made a remark about your wrong spelling anniebach. I have a good memory for some things, and can tell you that you are wrong. In any case, why go on about it? you did a wrong spelling, somebody pulled you up on it, so what, we are all grown ups ( presumably).
I do hate all this victim stuff, for no good reason.
In any case, I doubt that you make as many typo's as I do.

Stansgran Thu 03-Dec-15 16:42:30

Trisher perhaps I should have said phobia. I was using dyslexia as an example of spelling disabilities . It is something which bothers me considerably.

Ana Thu 03-Dec-15 16:52:36

Obviously some are not grown up enough to admit they made a mistake and apologise for what was a particularly nasty and personal post, roses...hmm

Anniebach Thu 03-Dec-15 16:55:20

Then who was it rosesarered ? If not Anya I want to apologise , I couldn't care less if told I have made a spelling error, this was different , two were involved and a third asked for the bullying to stop

Anniebach Thu 03-Dec-15 16:56:51

When I read the thread again and see I made an error I will apologise , rosesarered will surely advise which thread so this can be cleared up

rosequartz Thu 03-Dec-15 17:08:34

if my MP had voted for the bombing I would certainly be asking that she fully explain her views and possibly pointing out that she failed to represent me properly
But they are not just representing one constituent.
