"Property prices help Britain's richest to increase wealth gap" (Guardian 19.12.15):

"Britain’s richest households have pulled further ahead of the rest of the population as house prices have accelerated, with the top 10% now owning almost half of the country’s £11.1tn total private wealth.

".....Since the previous survey two years earlier, the top tenth of households had seen a 21% increase in their wealth ..."

" .... It left the top tenth of households owning 45% of total wealth, while the bottom half were left to share just 9%. The poorest 1%, meanwhile, owned just 0.05% of wealth."

Meanwhile:

No defence for Letwin and Young ?

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 15:48:30

Of course he isn't evil, what a strange comment!

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 15:50:12

You may call him lots of things if you like, but evil... It really doesn't fit the bill.

Anniebach Fri 01-Jan-16 15:56:47

What does one call a man who has had the best education money can buy and a privileged life style and calls the poor - the lower class ?

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 15:59:56

Certainly not evil!?

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 16:00:57

Hitler was evil.

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 16:01:52

Let's try and use words properly.

Anniebach Fri 01-Jan-16 16:02:25

Ok not evil for you, but what ?

Anniebach Fri 01-Jan-16 16:03:46

I agree on using words properly, is calling the poor the lower class acceptable ? I think it was a vile thing to say

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 16:04:42

Not evil for anyone! Pompous, maybe, arrogant, who knows?

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 16:06:49

It was/is part of life in Britain to be obsessed by class, upper class, middle class and lower class.

Riverwalk Fri 01-Jan-16 16:09:27

Being Jewish, Letwin should have known better than to make sweeping statements about any particular ethnic/cultural group.

Talk about stereo-typing: his opinion that resources aimed at black Londoners would end up in 'drugs, discos and Rastafarian art'.

I've always found him obnoxious - I wonder if his views have changed over the years - I know that he's apologised for what he said 30 years ago.

Has he given any interviews? I'd be interested to hear what he has to say.

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 16:10:51

Obnoxious, yes, a better word!

Anniebach Fri 01-Jan-16 16:28:49

You must know rosesarered, dismissing it as - who knows , is a defence

Anniebach Fri 01-Jan-16 16:30:47

Letwin doesn't give interviews when he has disgusted people with his views, he vanishes , just as he did in 2002

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 16:31:20

I meant yer takes yer choice of words, pompous, arrogant or other ( but not evil, that's laughable.) Riverwalk's obnoxious is perhaps the best word.

rosesarered Fri 01-Jan-16 16:32:05

You do sound obsessed with Letwin ab

Anniebach Fri 01-Jan-16 16:52:49

Not at all obsessed with Letwin, just find anyone who holds his views on the poorer in society and black people to be vile and racist. I despise him and anyone who shares his vews

durhamjen Fri 01-Jan-16 16:57:22

My choice is evil.

durhamjen Fri 01-Jan-16 16:58:06

One winner here to make lots of losers.

durhamjen Fri 01-Jan-16 17:01:13

Dictionary d3efinition of evil; not good morally, sinful or wicked. Causing discomfort or repulsion. Disagreeable or harmful.
Hence Letwin is evil. What he says fits all those categories.

durhamjen Fri 01-Jan-16 17:04:45

Obnoxious from the Latin, ob + noxa, meaning harm.
Therefore both obnoxious and evil mean harmful.

Anniebach Fri 01-Jan-16 17:12:47

Thinking of it more, Hitler was evil for the final solution but he started with the same views of Jews as Letwin has of the poor and black people, lesser human beings

durhamjen Fri 01-Jan-16 17:36:22

Personally I think it is crass stupidity to say I cannot use the word evil to describe someone who certainly has had evil intent over the last thirty years.

rosequartz Fri 01-Jan-16 19:07:16

I would called him an arrogant, contemptuous, pompous prick idiot

Evil is a bit strong imo, I don't think he wants to exterminate a whole lot of people.
