How will you vote in the EU referendum?

Yes, Wilma. One of my grandchildren is Danish, along with his mother. His sister is British, even though they were both born here. The law changed between their births.
I think there are discussions going on at the moment about having dual nationality in Denmark, as they have realised that there will not be many Danes left if they continue this.

I am in a similar position to other recent posters in that I have been resident in France for almost 9 years and therefore eligible to vote in the referendum. I still pay tax in the UK on my occupational pension and all my family are UK resident. The UK is where we intend to return at some point in the future while we are still fit and healthy.

However we may be forced to return sooner than planned should the vote be to leave the EU. In that event, I expect that as non EU residents our state pension will be frozen at a date decided by the government. There are other financial and healthcare implications, as indicated by Mamie. Although it could take two years to dismantle the various treaties and agreements between the UK and Europe, it is likely to precipitate considerable numbers returning to live and work in Britain.

Thought it was so dj trouble is there are people on here who would seriously think that was true I thought I ought to post something in reply to counter their ideas!

Just checked and about 1.25 million British citizens living in the other 27 member states.

Sigh. I conclude that the "I don't want to be told what to do" faction either does not wish to debate. Presumably they are all members of the Nigel Farage fan club and have swallowed his "sovereignty" line as well as hook and sinker.

Yup! We are talking about something with fundamental implications for the economy and the future of the United Kingdom and people are talking about not liking re-cycling and low-energy lightbulbs. It is horrifying.

Granjura, if you come back to the UK after years of living abroad does your pension get uprated to what it would have been if you had always lived here?

The whole point of being in the EU is that our borders have expanded, for people as well as goods. This country makes more from exporting services rather than goods.

You're right gagagran, these political threads are best avoided. How we vote at the end of the day over this or anything else is our own personal business and nothing to do with anyone else. What we consider important or unimportant ditto. There's just no point discussing it, you only lay yourself wide open for ridicule! Bale out, and don't bale back, it's a pointless exercise and just not worth the hassle.

There must be some people on here who have no idea how they want to vote. Surely they need to be given both sides, not just the stay in side. Just because we disagree with those who want out does not mean their points should not be put.

This thread started well a few days ago and the posts were being respectfully considered and I for one was interested in watching the thread. It was interesting to read and take on others views. However the age old, tiresome comment of 'Little Englanders', Bloody Minded and referring to anybody who dares to argue /discuss opposite opinions as UKIP supporters raised it's ugly head AGAIN , nothing new it is a regular occurrence sadly.

Such comments are not what politics is all about, that is all about aggressive , do as I say believe what I say and don't you dare to argue with me rhetoric. If you believe that others have a right to express an opinion, have a right to oppose your view then let them do so! If not raise your debate as electing to simply name call only has the effect of stopping debate, ' or is that the ploy these days ' as thread after thread ends up the same way. Posters with only an interest in stating their view and not part of any particular political affiliation don't bother and that leaves a cabal of like minded posters to dominate and continue insisting their view must be the only view the thread should be directed toward. I hope this doesn't happen again it was a good thread, shame for it to go the way so many other threads have gone.
