Just starting a thread for it - be on in a few mins.

daphnedill Sat 19-Mar-16 17:16:20

NotTooOld, She hardly ever goes outside, so doesn't get cold feet. She wears furry slippers and can't walk more than about 3 or 4 metres anyway, because she has a replacement hip, which needs replacing, COPD and can't see where she's walking. Her wrists aren't strong enough to hold a rail.

I've told her she should appeal, but she can't bear the thought of going through another assessment and feeling that she wasn't believed.

Galen Sat 19-Mar-16 17:14:23

I tend to follow Pythagorus' advice and " abstain from beans" ie keep out of politics, but I do feel that people should understand what exactly the 2point cut in PIP means in reality.
It doesn't seem to have been properly explained in the media

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 17:11:56

Petra, I know at least thirty people with mental health problems who are living in terror that they will become homeless because of this government , so for me let that man cheat and let my thirty people receive the help they genuinely need , I would rather that than spend the rest of this parliament on suicide or help me phone calls . For gods sake we cannot be brutal to thousands of people because of a few cheats. There will always be cheats but the innocent shouldn't suffer for the actions of another

whitewave Sat 19-Mar-16 17:09:52

Hello galen don't often see you on these threads smile

Galen Sat 19-Mar-16 17:07:53

That's right. Hugh Rossi who was minister when DLA came in said that people will tell the truth and should be believed. Medical evidence was not required and the decision makers were positively discouraged from seeking it.

whitewave Sat 19-Mar-16 17:07:20

So is it definitely a goner? The PIP cuts I mean. If so any ideas what he will do? The trouble is IDS has successfully laid the nasty blame at Gideons door, so he is going to find it very difficult to cut any more from the poor I would have thought. Even then he has to get it through the House of Lords - remember tax credits. Poor old Gideon, he doesn't do very well does he, nor get it right.

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 17:04:41

Galen, you are claiming people applied for high mobility , no medical evidence to support them, they just say I can't walk so I want a car

petra Sat 19-Mar-16 17:04:03

Anniebach. There are some very good actors/actresses about.
I will explain to you how a 'friend' of mine gets away with it. He claims that he has depression and that he's homeless, he's not. When he is called in for an assessment, he doesn't wash or shave for a week, he takes his false teeth out, and, he splashes water around his groin area to make it look as if he has wet himself. He has no medication but claims he 'self medicates'
They can't get him out of the office quick enough.
Oh, and his mother has a disability car. They should both be on the stage.
Now, does that give you some idea how it's done.

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 17:02:33

So if you can walk to your car and back from the front door, you cannot have a motability car.
I seem to recall a lot of fun was made of that one. Not so funny now.

Apparently Stephen Crabb voted for all the cuts to PIP and ESA.

Galen Sat 19-Mar-16 17:02:28

Anytime Ana smile

Ana Sat 19-Mar-16 17:01:13

Ah! That explains the loss of cars in some cases - thanks Galen.

Galen Sat 19-Mar-16 16:56:42

Posted too soon.
In a lot of cases the DWP took their un coborrated word for it and gave lifetime awards.

Galen Sat 19-Mar-16 16:55:04

Dj that's DLA, in PIP it's the enhanced rate of mobility which means less than 20 metres. That's why people are losing their cars.
Anieb I have! In fraud cases and when people have stated they can't walk but can

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 16:53:31

The Rt Hon David Cameron MP

The Rt Hon Nicholas Clegg MP

The Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP

The Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP

The Rt Hon Tony Blair

The Rt Hon Lord Jenkin of Roding

The Rt Hon Baroness Hollis of Heigham

Patrons of the motability charity. I think some of them have been asked to leave.

durhamjen Sat 19-Mar-16 16:51:41

You have to have the higher rate of mobility allowance to get a Motability car. This means that you have to fill in lots of paperwork to show that you cannot walk more than 50 metres without help or pain. Galen will know if that's still true.
You then have to apply to Motability, which is a charity. Not everyone gets one. You can use your money to get a motorised wheelchair instead, or just to pay for transport door to door.
Motability allows you to change your car every three years. Insurance, car tax and repairs are included in the cost. Depending on the type of car you want, you might have to make a substantial downpayment.

For anyone really interested.

Ana Sat 19-Mar-16 16:40:45

It hasn't been claimed that the person/persons had no disability.

Anniebach Sat 19-Mar-16 16:37:46

I do not believe people with no disability is given a car sorry

Galen Sat 19-Mar-16 16:32:14

Did you appeal the decision? Sounds as though you might have a case?

daphnedill Sat 19-Mar-16 16:31:24

So how do they get these cars? Come on! I want one too!

NotTooOld Sat 19-Mar-16 16:30:13

Jalima - no, she's not the only one getting a car as I also know someone who was provided with one and I was totally amazed too.

NotTooOld Sat 19-Mar-16 16:27:27

daphne - your poor mum. I know this suggestion doesn't go far to alleviate her problems but you can buy a gadget to put socks on without bending down. Try googling it. I don't think it is expensive. I've just come in from a cold walk and can't bear to think of your mum with no socks on.

daphnedill Sat 19-Mar-16 16:20:00

I'm genuinely interested, because there's not very much wrong with me, but I'd like to know how I can get a new car if other people without any disability can get one.

More seriously, I'd like to know how my mother who can hardly walk, has severe breathing problems, can hardly see, has impaired hearing, suffers frequent falls, can't turn her head, has osteoporosis which means that both her wrists are very weak and has arthritis was turned down for Attendance Allowance.

She daren't leave her home, hasn't had a bath/shower for years, doesn't have the strength to open her microwave/oven, open a tin or packet and leaves things out of the fridge because she finds the door difficult to open. She takes about half an hour to get dressed and then she doesn't wear socks or tights because she can't put them on and only wears skirts and trousers with elasticated waists.

I won't even start on housework, because I know not being able to do it doesn't count. She doesn't do any, because she can't and doesn't see the dirt anyway.

daphnedill Sat 19-Mar-16 16:11:07

Jalima, So how did this person get a new Motability car? What's wrong with him/her?

daphnedill Sat 19-Mar-16 16:09:54

Well, I'm totally confused now. Galen, you now seem to be saying that it's not quite so simple and fair as you were claiming.

Jalima Sat 19-Mar-16 16:07:10

Ooh, exciting!! No time for murderous thoughts then, just gentle loving ones smile
