With apologies to those sick and tired of it?

rosesarered Mon 09-May-16 18:06:33

Now, apparently, we will have World War Three breaking out if we leave.....ridiculous!

www.globaljustice.org.uk/sites/default/files/files/resources/eu_referendum_briefing_web_v2.pdf

12 pages, and I agree with it all.

This is why some want Brexit.

The UK is fighting against transparency.

This is a fullfact on the government's EU leaflet. It is being debated in parliament today.

durhamjen Sun 08-May-16 21:20:07

Ajanela, don't go on the government watch thread, either. It's just as long.

Jalima Sun 08-May-16 20:43:10

Well, ajanela it is about whether we want to stay in the EU or vote to come out.

That's it in a nutshell. Although the brief would seem to be quite wide. wink

durhamjen Sun 08-May-16 20:25:21

That's why it's better not to join in at page 16. Then we only have to refresh our memories.

Jalima Sun 08-May-16 20:23:05

Remembering it all (and remembering which thread it is all on) is cleverer still.

I haven't managed it yet.

durhamjen Sun 08-May-16 20:21:21

Some of us have actually been reading it as we have been going along. We're clever like that.

whitewave Sun 08-May-16 20:17:58

Don't suppose so ajenela only us boring farts keen on politics

ajanela Sun 08-May-16 20:12:58

Does anyone read all this? Didn't realise it was 16 pages when I started my rant!

ajanela Sun 08-May-16 20:08:07

What about all the British people who live in Europe. Most of them don't integrate or adapt. They have their British pubs and shops, bowling greens, schools, retirement homes, and theatres. They run Royal British clubs, Scots clubs, Irish and Welsh clubs holding big celebrations on their national days. They have a wide range of other English speaking clubs. They have their own churches with services in English. They use the local health services. They print their own newspapers, have websites especially for them in English and radio programmes and watch British tv on the Internet. The don't learn the language and proudly say the locals speak English

Isn't that what you complain about immigrants doing although we definitely don't speak their language.

Also if we leave Europe a great number of the elderly ex pats will come back to be cared for if they can no longer use the local health services making a bigger strain on our NHS and so we will have to employ more immigrants to look after them. Some won't be able to buy a house so we will have to provide local authority sheltered housing,

One reason to stay in Europe

harrigran Sun 08-May-16 19:05:51

Thanks dj, that is something I am not familiar with, will ask Oncologist tomorrow.
Sorry to intrude, back to bed now.

whitewave Sun 08-May-16 18:14:41

That is something the EU can do and not any single country on its own.

whitewave Sun 08-May-16 18:13:45

Just watching country file. The EU needs to ban Turtle Dove massacre in Malta, well in fact all the birds they kill.

durhamjen Sun 08-May-16 16:58:09

Good luck harrigran. I swear by Sambucol for colds and other viruses. It's elderberry with vitamin C and zinc, so hope you can take it.

Bags, I think this is in the other 10% of extinctions.

www.foe.co.uk/news/keep-banned-bee-harming-pesticides-out-our-fields
Definitely to do with humans, and no reason to use neonics as crop yields have not been depleted when they have not been used. However, farmers want to use them.

If you go on 38 degrees, you will see there are ban pesticide use in .....petitions in just about every county. Very clever.
It is the UK agricultural organisations who are trying to ride roughshod over the EU. Neonics have been banned in the EU. Now the UK wants to kill off our bees.

nigglynellie Sun 08-May-16 14:37:40

harrigran, sorry, I spelt your name incorrectly. I'm doing this outside and the screen isn't that easy to see in the sunlight! Well, that's my rather thin excuse!!!!!

whitewave Sun 08-May-16 13:59:28

And me * harrigan*?

If you can be like my friend and set your sight on this time next year. She did just that - not easy - and she felt like s.....t, but that was 7 years ago. ??

rosesarered Sun 08-May-16 13:53:08

Yes, I wish you well Harrigran it's a lot to face.?

nigglynellie Sun 08-May-16 11:06:49

I don't want to join in this discussion, but I would like to wish you well harigran during your treatment, and hope that you will be restored to full health asap after your chemo sessions are completed.flowers

harrigran Sun 08-May-16 11:01:06

Good morning, head a bit clearer this morning but this filthy virus is not helping. I have six more sessions of chemo to go, should end in September.

Lots of information here.

durhamjen Sun 08-May-16 10:44:47

"Mostly because of the rebate, the UK pays the least of all member countries as a share of Gross National Income—a standard measure of the overall prosperity of an economy that is a close relative of the better known GDP measure.

The EU budget is around 1% of EU GNI.

This is the starting point for calculating what each member country should contribute to the budget—most end up paying around 1% of their GNI. The UK paid 0.65%.

Looked at another way, the government will spend a forecast £772 billion in 2016/17. The net contribution to the EU will be 1.5% of that, according to the Office for Budget Responsibility.

I think there is a lot of wasteful bureaucracy. Not all bureaucracy is good or needed. Other European countries have the same problems of trying to balance environmental needs with human ones. Again, your argument is based on the assumption that the UK is somehow worse than elsewhere at thing you care about. I don't share that feeling.

I'm off now to sort out an archery tournament in our back garden.
