With apologies to those sick and tired of it?

daphnedill Tue 26-Apr-16 10:22:12

It's a myth that the EU accounts have never been audited.

33,000 people work for the European Commission, serving an entire continent. But more than 82,000 people work for HM Revenue & Customs alone.

Do you know how much the bureaucracy of your local council costs?

petra Tue 26-Apr-16 10:26:53

If we are all in the 'club' why are VW giving preferential treatment to America in regard to the emission problem on their cars. So far, nothing has happened in our country and the Americans are getting compensation.

daphnedill Tue 26-Apr-16 10:28:11

I haven't been following the story closely. Please explain.

Welshwife Tue 26-Apr-16 11:40:57

Are we talking emissions here Petra? I think it is because there are maybe different rules applying to what they do. Audi have an issue with an engine fault in a newer model which has been settled in USA but not yet in Europe. The VW case is false results given for the testings they did . With the Audi I think it is more a design fault.

petra Tue 26-Apr-16 16:10:03

Re VW. It's probably got something to do with the US Enviromental Agency suing VW.

Mamie Tue 26-Apr-16 16:52:51

I love the Albanian Pime Minister's response to Michael Gove's suggestion that the UK should adopt Albania's relationship with the EU.
He said,
"When I heard about it I thought it was a joke.
Then when I read it knowing that Mr Gove is one of the very intelligent persons in the UK politics I thought it was kind of weird because why in the world Brits would have to follow a model we don’t want for ourselves. We think it’s the other way round.
Talking about this new BBC - British Balkan Confederation - is really amazing, but not for serious politics. I am sorry to that because I have a lot of respect for Mr Gove as a person and it’s, let me say bluntly, ridiculous."

Rosina Tue 26-Apr-16 17:11:10

Amazed to hear that when America wants help from our excellent Army, and our equally excellent intelligence services, we are the best of friends.

When we are considering extracting ourselves from the kind of arrangement which America would be unlikely to consider under any circumstances, suddenly we are in the naughty corner and at the back of the queue. What???

I voted for a Common Market way back in the seventies, for free trade, not this current stranglehold fiasco. We will never have any truth from the EU - their accounts haven't been 'signed off' in years - would you buy a car from them?

Mamie Tue 26-Apr-16 17:26:29

As is clearly evidenced by the links put on by daphnedill at the top of this page, it is a complete myth that the EU accounts have never been audited.

Day6 Tue 26-Apr-16 17:39:25

OUT.

No two ways about it as far as I am concerned.

Why are we all extremely thankful we kept our currency and didn't adopt the Euro?

We'll be leaving our children to sort out the mess that is the EU, and the increased terror threat too if we don't leave now. The recent turmoil in Europe revealed that we are NOT all pulling in the same direction. We will be mopping up and paying for the EU for the remainder of time, to the detriment of OUR country, way of life, families, and sovereignty.

This is the only vote we'll get in our lifetime. If we stay in, that's it for the foreseeable future. It's bad now. Will it somehow get better?

We will remain part of the European continent and we won't be falling out in any malicious way with any country that makes up Europe. It won't cause wars or enmity.

The other counties that make up the EU fear our going and fear losing our input and billions of pounds.

We are a strong player, contributing huge amounts so we're perfectly capable of shrugging off the ties that bind us (strangle us) and most other big nations in the EU will be fearing for THEIR futures if we take the next step and get out.

We WILL be able to trade globally...European laws, tariffs and monopolies have prevented our expansion and limited growth in so many ways.

Do we really feel it's right to prop up so much or Eastern Europe, and maybe Turkey in the next year or so? This is why the scaremongering is coming from all quarters. If we leave the foundations of the EU may well crack and already Sweden is considering getting out and the Germans and the French are questioning their loyalty to a European agreement which is run by an undemocratic body making arrangements and changing laws for a huge land mass and not looking at the needs of individual nations. The EU is in disarray and it's power and personal profit that many politicians fear losing.

The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition fears for jobs, expansion and employees rights if we stay IN Europe. I think that is very telling.

I look forward to governance of the UK without the interference of European Courts, over-ruling the justice meted out in British courts according to British laws. Human rights laws are being abused by hate preachers allowed to remain in the UK and we have to foot the Legal Aid bills. How that that be right, fair or proper...or in our interests?

I have listened to Remain and read the costly pamphlet that's come through my door and many arguments seem like threats....this will happen if you don't vote to remain. What worries me much more, in terms of the futures of my children and grandchildren, is what will happen if we stay. What sort of Europe will they be living in?

Those are my reasons for voting OUT.

harrigran Tue 26-Apr-16 18:11:54

And mine Day6.

Firecracker123 Tue 26-Apr-16 18:22:53

Well said Day6 totally agree, Out vote from me and my husband.

petra Tue 26-Apr-16 18:33:30

You put it so well, Day6 and no links, all your own thoughts.

durhamjen Tue 26-Apr-16 18:35:53

Just repeating your misinformation again, Day6.

Who gets legal aid these days?
It has nothing to do with the EU.

Human rights laws have nothing to do with the EU that you want to get out of. You obviously did not read the fullfact information I gave you.
Never mind. Whatever any of us say will not stop you being prejudiced.

Ana Tue 26-Apr-16 18:42:57

I don't think Day 6 was talking about the denial of legal aid for the majority of UK citizens, but rather the seemingly automatic granting of it to certain foreign criminals whose bills can run into thousands.

Why is anyone expressing their intention to vote OUT accused of being 'prejudiced'? It's just rude and doesn't encourage honest opinions being posted.

merlotgran Tue 26-Apr-16 18:53:11

A good argument for voting OUT, Day6

durhamjen Tue 26-Apr-16 19:48:36

Day6 used both human rights laws and legal aid as justification for leaving the EU.
They have nothing to do with the EU.

fullfact.org/europe/eu-and-human-rights-common-error/

ukhumanrightsblog.com/2013/02/10/no-the-sun-the-human-rights-act-is-not-the-eu/

It's not a good argument for voting out because it's not true.
My links, whether you read them or not, show the truth.

durhamjen Tue 26-Apr-16 19:49:14

They are written by people who know what they are talking about.

granjura Tue 26-Apr-16 19:55:11

Did you watch the Patrick Stewart video, I wonder. WE, yes WE, the British, wrote the Human Rights Act and imposed it on the whole of the EU after WW2. Yes, WE did.

petra Tue 26-Apr-16 19:57:52

Definition of prejudice.
Preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.
Well I have experienced the EU and I don't like it.

merlotgran Tue 26-Apr-16 19:59:47

I thought you were Swiss, granjura confused

granjura Tue 26-Apr-16 20:24:36

That does NOT stop me from being British, does it? My DH is Brtiish and Swiss now- and for me t'other way round. No contradiction there, honest.

granjura Tue 26-Apr-16 20:25:42

I've lived a lot longer in the UK than in Switzerland- all my adult life till I retired actually.

Jalima Tue 26-Apr-16 20:36:07

Whatever any of us say will not stop you being prejudiced.

Just wondering who us are?
Having a different point of view from someone else doesn't necessarily mean prejudice, it means having a different point of view.

Ana Tue 26-Apr-16 20:41:12

Yes, one might just as well say the 'us' brigade is prejudiced too.

Have you got a vote in the referendum, granjura?
