Benefit Cuts

Although I'm lucky enough (at the moment) not to need benefits, in think it's so cruel that people are being evicted from their homes because of cuts. Specially old people who can't possibly work.

I forsee this problem won't go away. My nephew has a regular, reasonably well paid job. His wife teaches, is a HoD.

He has opted out of his firm's Workplace Pension scheme hmm

People who get accommodation as part of their job contract usually get correspondingly low pay.
London councils are moving a lot of people, old and young, to other areas where rents are less.

Pushing people from London to other cities only moves the problem out of London. There is a shortage of social housing throughout the country. We need to stop selling off the properties and build more to increase the stock. There will always be people who cannot afford to buy. Being poor doesn't mean they don't deserve somewhere reasonable to live and to live in a city they know.

Benefit caps are adding to this problem. I'm entitled to full housing benefit for rent but that's not the same as the amount of my rent. I also lose 14% of the benefit because I live in a two bedroomed house but, according to the powers that be, only need one bedroom. The fact that the children come to stay every weekend and during the holidays is irrelevant. I have to find the difference or lose my home. I don't live in a ridiculously expensive house btw. In fact it's cheaper than most one bedroomed properties in this town and the nearby city.
