You didn't think I would ignore this did you?

durhamjen Fri 10-Jun-16 10:42:54

Shakespeare wrote Hamlet?
Did Shakespeare write Hamlet?

They are both questions.

Anniebach I have never suggested what you say and I'm a bit nonplussed at your response! I was merely agreeing with Roses comment that we're all cherry picked one way or another.
I'm firmly with the Remain camp but its not clear cut and other views also hold some value.

Watched a documentary , a young British man ranted because he had lost his job and it had been given to an immigrant . Questioned as to why he said - the immigrant was willing to work on until it was dark, I finished at five, I am British !

If we vote out it will be quite amusing seeing the queues of British waiting to wash dishes in hotels, pick fruit and veg on farms

Anniebach Fri 10-Jun-16 10:49:18

Jane, I have explained, I asked for your views on this country taking nurses and doctors from other countries whilst cutting back on training nurses in this country , hence the ?

Anniebach Fri 10-Jun-16 10:50:36

Quite Jen, but not for nit pickers

I cannot remember on which thread the vacuum cleaner was mentioned. However, this is an explanation of how the EU helps our power consumption.

fullfact.org/europe/governments-immigration-target-only-achievable-outside-eu/

According to fullfact, the government cannot meet its immigration target unless we leave the EU. However, the target was unrealistic in the first place. If we leave the EU and then do not allow any EU citizens to come in, the non-EU migrants will still be nearly twice as high as Cameron's idea of reducing immigration to fewer than 100,000.
Therefore, if immigration is your main reason for leaving the EU, that's what you should vote for.
On the other hand, Cameron told a lie to get reelected last year, because he knew that it would be impossible to reduce immigration to fewer than 100,000.
Brexit knows it, too.
How many people want to stop immigration altogether for a few years to address the problem?
Or do you want to send those who are legally here already back to where they came from?
People have to think about what they really want from immigration. We cannot say only those really well qualified can come here to stay and the rest have to go back home.
We also cannot say we only want white people who can speak English really well.

I don't have a problem with staff from other countries Anniebach. Some of the best Drs I've worked with have been Indian and the best nurses Filippino. Does the EU mean to cut back on training places? I don't know how I've got involved with this!
I've been cherry picked myself ie been selected as the best applicant for a job. Previously I've not been picked but sucked it up as the panel chose the best applicant for the job. The patients deserve the best.

The government has cut back on nurse training Jane

durhamjen Fri 10-Jun-16 13:23:17

The UK government has been breaking international obligations on human rights, particularly of disabled people.

durhamjen Fri 10-Jun-16 13:37:49

The government has also stopped bursaries so fewer people will be applying for training.

Ceesnan Fri 10-Jun-16 14:28:49

Ah, but if we're not forking out £millions each week to the EU then we might have enough to pay bursaries!! Simples grin

Jane10 Fri 10-Jun-16 14:30:19

Simples or simplistic Ceesnan! There's no saying what the govt would decide to spend money on.

Ana Fri 10-Jun-16 14:34:51

Sorry Ceesnan, you have to be deadly serious on the political threads these days - it seems to be the new Law!

durhamjen Fri 10-Jun-16 14:36:25

This is how the government cuts immigration. You might not like it.

Not that we are going along with it though.grin

That was to Ana ( in case anyone doubts it.)

A group called Remain for Change has written a report. There will be a meeting next Wednesday at Greenwich University, with speakers including Ann Pettifor and Keir Starmer.

daphnedill Fri 10-Jun-16 15:33:35

A long but worthwhile read. It's pro-Remain (obviously), but it doesn't portray the EU as perfect and debunks some of the pro-Remain arguments. It's full of facts and the likely impact of change plus the benefits of current EU membership.

If people are still dithering, this is a good read, although you'll need to make a cup of tea (or equip yourself with your favourite tipple) before sitting down to read it.

durhamjen Fri 10-Jun-16 15:40:05

Yes, sorry, should have said. 52 pages. Thanks, daphne. If I lived in London, I might have tried to go to that seminar.

However, this is shorter.

Ceesnan Fri 10-Jun-16 15:56:47

Thanks for the reminder Ana, must have had a rush of blood to the head and a giddy moment....will try not to display such levity again smile

Ana Fri 10-Jun-16 17:52:25

It's fine by me if you do, Ceesnan! grin

rosesarered Fri 10-Jun-16 18:39:51

Yes,Ceesnan please do.......we could use some light relief with the EU being the only topic at the moment, on here, the tv, radio etc.
