.... almost want the other side to win, simply because the follow up to the result would be so much more interesting? Yes, I know that is completely irresponsible. hmm

Jalima Wed 22-Jun-16 17:38:05

I want out and he wants in and it feels like I am doing him a disservice because of my views knowing how fair minded he is
You have to make your own decision but can listen carefully to all his reasons for staying in

Will they ban us from the Eurovision Song Contest, do you think? That could be a good reason to vote out

We ruled ourselves and much of the world before and we sure can do it again.
Goes away singing 'If I Ruled the World'

(before anyone jumps on me, trying to keep to the theme I think the OP intended)

I've been keeping a list of the threats and 'promises' each side have been making. It will be interesting to see how many threats come about and promises are kept whoever wins.

Synonymous it's your children and grandchildren who will have to live through the economic turmoil leaving will bring. Maybe your great or great great grandchildren will be grateful.

Badenkate Wed 22-Jun-16 16:07:05

I think Synonymous you have just displayed the way in which so many outers seem to think we can go back to some past where we were much more important than we are now. It's really not going to happen, whatever the result

Badenkate Wed 22-Jun-16 16:03:03

We ruled ourselves and much of the world before and we sure can do it again

I didn't realise we were intending to take over the world! I don't think even Boris Johnson haso got that in mind.

Synonymous Wed 22-Jun-16 15:57:04

Whilst there is a wry smile at the mischievous thought in the OP I don't feel any humour in the prospect of what will come to fruition should we have a majority vote to stay in.

I shudder at the thought of "better the devil you know" because you really don't know what will happen once we are tied down and have no prospect of escape ever again. Once the referendum is done and if the 'remain in the shackles' is the verdict then, and only then, will the huge bills start to come rolling in. Who do you think is going to pay the bills for all the countries unable to pay them? We will, or rather it will be our children and grandchildren - that is who! sad If you care anything for their futures give it back to them so that they can work for themselves and not the faceless bureaucrats on the gravy train. We ruled ourselves and much of the world before and we sure can do it again.
Voting for our own government means that we can vote them out again but voting to remain in the EU means shackled for ever! This is our last chance to be Independent and free.

Joelsnan democracy will prevail.

jevive73 Wed 22-Jun-16 15:19:05

I am a floating voter at general elections and am voting remain after lots of thinking about all aspects.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 22-Jun-16 15:14:22

POGS just to add I decided to vote Remain independently of party politics. I also said that certain MPs in the Leave camp were one of the reasons I chose to vote Remain. It was one of three reasons, the other two being maintaining peace and protection of our rights.

Joelsnan Wed 22-Jun-16 15:13:44

Thanks WilmaKnickersfit.
I too did not vote this government in but have faith in the British people to ensure that democracy prevails.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 22-Jun-16 15:08:52

Sorry, Joelsnan but I completely disagree with you on both counts. The UK is in the Big 3 in the EU, along with France and Germany. If we vote to leave the EU, the Tory party will go through a reorganisation as it comes back together again. I think there's a strong chance that this will mean the party will move more towards the right. As someone who didn't vote for this Tory government, that's the last thing I want to happen. Democracy in action.

POGS Wed 22-Jun-16 15:02:48

Joelsnan

Couldn't agree more.

This referendum should rise above partisan politics and personalities . Yet it is everywhere you look. We could all say he said, she said to put a spin on things to shape them to align with our view. I am not innocent of doing so myself when I get fed up of the pendulum swinging in one direction disengenuously.

Some people are happily lying in bed with some strange bed fellows and the hypocrisy is almost laughable at times.

Voting to remain in just because you consider these people's opinion is right wing is exactly what I am talking about. We have a democratically elected parliament which is not suddenly going to disappear and be replaced by right wing activists on Friday should we vote to leave. Our parliament will still operate as always, with the electorate ultimately having the final say.

Joelsnan Wed 22-Jun-16 14:07:30

WilmaKnickersfit
We may well do so but our MEPs are very small fish within a vast pond and an analogy would be the Eurovision Song Contest. We pay the largest amount into this event but are treated with derision by a large number of the countries contesting. We are only half in anyway having wisely declined on the Euro and Shenghen, decisions made by our own democratically elected government.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 22-Jun-16 13:49:21

Joelsnan we vote for our European Parliament members every 5 years.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 22-Jun-16 13:45:49

Joelsnan it's not necessarily about personalities, for me it is about the political beliefs of the person. One of the reasons why I voted to remain is the group of MPs at the core of the campaign i.e. Gove, Hunt, Duncan Smith, Grayling, Fox and Patel. These MPs are far too right wing for me, so that was a factor in my decision.

Joelsnan Wed 22-Jun-16 13:45:08

It should read "can" you sorry

Joelsnan Wed 22-Jun-16 13:43:54

*GillC" Don't we have democratic elections every 4 years where we can exert our opinions. Can't you say the same about the European behemoth?

harrigran Wed 22-Jun-16 13:36:47

I am not sure older people in Germany get more, my sister does not get free travel pass she does however have a UK one. I don't think travel is free in Belgium either but am prepared to be corrected.

GillC Wed 22-Jun-16 13:31:27

I don't really want to leave, but the eu is in such a mess we might be better off leaving. On balance I think I will vote stay......better the devil you know than the devil you don't

Also if we leave there will be nothing to put the brakes on Cameron and his cronies in the Tory government.

kittylester Wed 22-Jun-16 13:31:26

Are we twins Nonnie? I think I will be one of the ones saying 'eeny, meeny' and I can't decide whether that will be better or worse than one of the 'opposite' grannies who wants to know which one will guarantee her bus pass!

Joelsnan Wed 22-Jun-16 13:25:39

I am amazed how many people will vote remain on the basis of dislike for a particular personality, the majority of whom will have no idea about those European ministers with whom they will entrust their futures.
The same people who would sit by the road admiring the paintwork as the Trojan horse is rolled in.
This is not X factor.

Sheilasue Wed 22-Jun-16 13:10:38

Don't want Boris or Gove as prime minister don't like them don't trust them, Boris is a dodgy twat and Gove was Educational secretary and DC got rid of him cause he upset every body in the schools. But I do not want to leave it will be a disaster can you imagine them two running the country will be back to the 1950's
