.... almost want the other side to win, simply because the follow up to the result would be so much more interesting? Yes, I know that is completely irresponsible. hmm

He's semi-resigned

CelticRose Fri 24-Jun-16 08:21:41

I met a very good hearted, kind soul the other day. Just listening to her story made me realise how lucky I was to be born into this country into a loving family. She was born into a violent, undemocratic, third world country and adopted as a baby into this country nearly 50 years ago. Even today, she could still barely read and write and therefore was mostly unemployable and relied on the State for support. She met prejudice at every turn and even though she has had two partners and has three children, her self esteem was mostly non-existent. She did not feel eligible to vote. I think many people are incorrectly labelled "stupid" because of their choices.

Ceesnan Fri 24-Jun-16 08:21:22

Well one of the advantages would be better trading for some businesses - Tate & Lyle for example who are "fined" for importing outside the EU and then that fine goesvtowards subsidising sugar beet farmers who can sell their product more cheaply. I have to go out now but will think of more later.

Rumour that Cameron is going to resign! Well we will have political instability and economic instability

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:14:25

Good point Ann60 ...I'm off to Elegran's positive thread to see how that's going.

petra Fri 24-Jun-16 08:13:31

The stupid and uneducated didn't need to read or look at videos to get the information they needed, it was being played out on their doorstep.

annsixty Fri 24-Jun-16 08:12:17

It's over and I don't think making personal remarks will help anything.

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:12:09

I'm not Ceesnan I am Anya and I believe in democracy.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 08:09:35

Ah, just the person! Ceesnan thinks it's patronising to mention the poor souls who can't concentrate longer than five minutes to watch an informative video.

So what are the advantages of leaving the EU?

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:09:11

Now we are seeing your true colours DD

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:08:22

hmm

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 08:08:05

And, yes, I do think people are stupid if they don't understand what it means when currency values, the stock and futures markets fall.

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:07:08

Yes, definitely disenfranchise the stupid!

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 08:05:55

Why a Liverpudlian accent? Liverpool voted Remain.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 08:05:12

Ah well! Maybe you should ask the poster who claimed that videos were too long for her and she could only manage six minutes.

I only had to read comments on Gransnet and some other sites from people who said they didn't know enough to make a decision.

So how do you think leaving the EU will improve life in the UK?

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:05:08

Spoken in a Liverpudlian accent wink

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:04:32

Perhaps we should disenfranchise the wirking classes?

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:03:10

Everyone is blind except us?

Implication that those poor, uneducated souls who voted 'leave' are stupid.

Ceesnan Fri 24-Jun-16 08:01:18

daphnedill on what basis are you saying that "So many people didn't know the facts and didn't bother to find out"? Did you conduct interviews with everyone who voted, or is this just your opinion gleaned from random remarks? Incidentally, your comment about 5 minute snippets seems somewhat patronising, but that is just my opinion.

Anya Fri 24-Jun-16 08:01:17

"Democracy is an illusion". quote from disagruntled remainer. Really?

Twaddle shock

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 07:56:19

How much has it cost us already

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 07:55:04

It's not doom mongering when the pound has fallen, as have stocks and futures. Oil is priced in dollars, so it won't be long before petrol prices rise. The Bank of England will have to intervene to support the pound or devalue, thus increasing debt. That's not doom-mongering and if you can't see something in front of your nose, I suggest you get yourself some new specs.

rosesarered Fri 24-Jun-16 07:52:07

thatbags good posts, I agree.
The vote was a democratic one.... And should be accepted by all , but I expect the threads will go on an on ( ad nauseam) with doom mongering.

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 07:51:56

Worrying isn't the same as whinging rose

We need someone to reassure us that we are indeed heading for the sunny uplands and indeed how we are going to get there.

Celebrate by all means but remember that if the economy does not settle as you so confidently expect it to do, the very people who took us out of Europe will suffer most.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 07:50:37

Nellie, they can't help themselves. They'll find somebody else to blame.
