.... almost want the other side to win, simply because the follow up to the result would be so much more interesting? Yes, I know that is completely irresponsible. hmm

doesn't he live in the USA? or have they moved back and didn't let me know?

rosesarered Tue 21-Jun-16 10:57:19

Badenkate grin perhaps he thought it was remain in the US?

Elegran Tue 21-Jun-16 10:58:32

Hurray for a light hearted thread on a serious subject. Even Shakespeare's tragedies had interludes inserted where the comic peasants cracked a few jokes between the murders and treason. It gave the audience a chance to de-stress for a few minutes before diving back into the mayhem.

What a pity it is not yet possible to make a documentary in the future and beam it back in time to Iplayer. We could view the consequences of alternative results and adjust our vote accordingly. As it is we can only read guesses and predictions from people who know no more than we do (and some of the more emphatic predictors know damn-all)

don't be unkind sad
he does seem like a lovely man

Badenkate Tue 21-Jun-16 10:59:36

Perhaps the 'we've moved' card got delayed in the post Jalima! To be honest I have no idea, but since everyone else in the world seems to be expressing an opinion, why not the Beckhams.

Jalima Tue 21-Jun-16 10:59:58

I think I mentioned that film Sliding Doors on another thread Elegran - was it with Gwynnie Paltrow?

Jalima Tue 21-Jun-16 11:01:14

Badenkate grin
Tell you DH that England needs Beckham
well, the football team does anyway!

Jalima Tue 21-Jun-16 11:01:29

your DH [oops]

rosesarered Tue 21-Jun-16 11:01:46

I agree Elegran ....'the road less travelled' or the other way? We only know afterwards.

Bit like The Archers then grin

Badenkate Tue 21-Jun-16 11:10:51

I'm just happy to have David Beckham around as eye candy (sigh) smile

granjura Tue 21-Jun-16 11:42:39

Here is John Oliver for a bit of fun and light relief:

warning, some bleeped swearing and racist quotes from some Ukipers.

Ana Tue 21-Jun-16 12:34:55

Sounds like a barrel of laughs...don't think I'll bother, thanks.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Jun-16 13:21:23

Quoting roses "I think Jingl means there may be a sense of schadenfreude about after Friday, or even that politics has been shaken up by it all and will become more interesting."

No. I meant exactly what I have said. hmm

TriciaF Tue 21-Jun-16 14:45:06

To answer your question, Jings, I think that whatever side wins, they'll be exhilarated, celebrate for a few days, then start to wonder, "so what do we do now?"
Or, if Brexit wins, Cameron will find some way of wriggling out of it and it will have been a complete waste of time.
" Article 50 would make Britain’s EU membership a legal matter. However, even if the June 23 referendum produces a Leave majority, the government would not be obliged to invoke the legislation."

Ana Tue 21-Jun-16 14:48:53

Oh well, that should drag it out for a few more years...hmm

nigglynellie Tue 21-Jun-16 15:21:56

If leave win and Parliament won't pass it, then the government can't invoke it? Have I got this right? because if so, why on earth are we having this referendum?!! Why not just have a commons vote in the first place, saving both money and dreadful grief in every sense of the word!!!

TriciaF Tue 21-Jun-16 16:08:04

Here's the link which contains the above - it might just be another scare story:
uk.businessinsider.com/green-eu-referendum-not-legally-binding-brexit-2016-6

nigglynellie Tue 21-Jun-16 16:42:12

Thank you TriciaF, so potentially all this commotion including the murder of an MP could have been avoided. For once I'm speechless! Will I bother to vote having just completely lost interest? probably not, best just to let it go and save more unpleasantness.

Jalima Tue 21-Jun-16 17:13:11

They won't pass it, will they, who posted the number of MPs for remain and MPs for brexit on another thread - can't remember but it was overwhelmingly for remain.

So - is it an exercise in public relations? which has caused so much anguish.

nigglynellie Tue 21-Jun-16 17:31:36

No, parliament will never pass it, so let's hope remain win and save any more anguish. The death of an MP has been a heavy price to pay for an exercise in public relations if that's what this is, never mind the financial cost, families at war with each other over it, and the ill temper on Gransnet. The ayes have it one way or the other!

Ana Tue 21-Jun-16 17:40:48

If they'll never pass it, why all the panic and doom-mongering? Calm down everybody!

granjura Tue 21-Jun-16 17:52:50

If Brexit wins, and the government refuses to implement- then I truly fear for rhe consequences. EDL and Britain First would go berserk- and I just can't, or don't want to imagine consequences sad

Ana Tue 21-Jun-16 18:01:31

Oh not that again...

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Jun-16 18:18:25

There would be a nationwide riot if the vote went one way and the government did the opposite thing! They wouldn't dare! grin
