Only a few months and there will be a new PM, who?

Im feeling sick, depressed and angry.

I am not a Londoner, but feel that they would not have elected him twice to the job had he been so bad at it ( common sense really.)All Mayors of big cities have advisors.

Although Boris is not bound to get the PM job, it is very likely.

rosesarered Sun 26-Jun-16 16:30:51

Theresa May would be a good candidate.

I reckon Johnson made the decision to go with Brexit because he knew that that is what the shire Tories were voting, and that he was also likely to get their vote in the event of the leadership contest, even if Brexit lost, which I truly believed he thought would be the outcome. He never planned for the to happen.

Im sorry, but Boris wasn't a great mayor of London, he was Ok with the photo ops and blustering about bicycles, but he didn't really achieve anything apart from fronting up the Olympics, which Ken Livingstone had started anyway. He didn't do anything about air quality, abandoned the extension of the congestion zone, made congestion worse by mucking about with many key roads which are a complete mess and more dangerous, brought in a few vanity projects like the cable car, garden bridge, wanted to have an airport in the Thames estuary in a nature reserve, I could go on. Some of his chosen advisors were crooks, not his fault, but bad choices.

If he does become PM, I will have some schadenfreude if (when) he fails to deliver on his promises. He won't be able to bluff his way out of this one.

trisher Sun 26-Jun-16 17:10:33

How many reports would Boris be able to hide away if he was PM?(like the air pollution one) and how many of his mates would get special deals (like the access to Thames waterfronts). He was a dodgy Mayor of London and would be a dodgy PM.

He was sacked by Micael Howard for lying

I think Boris is style but not much substance. I think he would actually run a mile from any paperwork that needed doing, or attending too many meetings etc if he didnt want to go to them.
I dont think he would be my first choice.

durhamjen Sun 26-Jun-16 18:14:14

SusieD, the bicycles were Livingstone's idea, too.

I've just been listening to Philip Hammond, and he sounds quite reasonable for a Tory. Why is he not in the frame?
He's the foreign secretary, so must know a lot about it.

grumppa Sun 26-Jun-16 18:25:01

I agree that Boris wasn't up to much as mayor, but I think he was right about the Congestion Zone. The bigger it gets, the more cars are kept within it, and the more they can be used within it without further financial penalty.

Boris is going to run on a unity ticket!!!!!!

Campbell says if Boris Johnson is our PM, he will feel ashamed. He didn't agree with Cameron but at least he did not mind watching and listening to him.

I think a lot of us feel like that.

How can Johnson run on a unity ticket when he's split his party down the middle, and destroyed the union?

durhamjen Sun 26-Jun-16 18:38:28

Alex Salmond has said he can exclusively reveal that the chancellor has been kidnapped, but nobody's going to pay the ransom.

trisher Sun 26-Jun-16 19:10:21

We could do a whip round-might collect a few pennies (probably old ones)

Deedaa Sun 26-Jun-16 21:12:57

I've realised that an Eton education has obviously turned Cameron into a nicer person than I am. In his place I'd have said "OK you wanted out - here's the keys I'm off on holiday"

Jalima Sun 26-Jun-16 21:17:42

I have a few euros knocking around in the bureau trisher - any use?

trisher Sun 26-Jun-16 21:27:20

Only if we want him sent to some country in the EU- well actually yes. Not that many either, after all they're doing better than the pound. I propose Germany I'm sure they will welcome him (Not)

whitewave Sun 26-Jun-16 22:19:30

My son just said that he rather thought Johnson used to be Lib Dem. Is that right?

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 26-Jun-16 22:21:59

Surely not. Coming from Eton?

whitewave Sun 26-Jun-16 22:25:10

I've no idea I suppose I could Google it.

Ana Sun 26-Jun-16 22:26:35

Yes. You could.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 26-Jun-16 22:27:22

I just did briefly. Didn't see anything.

whitewave Sun 26-Jun-16 22:32:16

I'll do it in the morning. moon
