I think it will be interesting to track what the result of the vote brings us. Good or bad.

Friday 24 th June

Result out.

Indeed! But it does aid industry and trade by providing a flexible workforce. Douglas Carswell has in the past advocated complete freedom of movement for that very reason. For him (and fellow neo-liberals) the price of labour should be subject to market forces with no restrictions.

Free Movement of People has been a double edged sword.

daphnedill Wed 29-Jun-16 12:49:09

Free movement of people aids commerce.

POGS Wed 29-Jun-16 12:41:26

The problem is the European Union cannot see that the Ever Closer Union mantra does not suit all nations within the 'club'.

If only over the years progressive politics could have have been adopted that looked after ALL the people of the 28 nations we might not be in the situation we face to date. One needs to look no further than Greece to understand the disparity between nations.

I just wish the European Union had split into a Federal State of nations who were happy to be politically and financially united and a Commercial State of nations that did not want to continue with the absolute desire for a Federal State of Europe but wanted to trade together for the good of all nations belonging to either group. The fact it has to be all end all has been regressive politics and the European Union is not listening.

Why is the 'free movement of people' so brilliant an idea the EU Elite are prepared to put that above security and commerce???

"Will to remain", I meant "will to leave"

grandMattie Wed 29-Jun-16 12:22:22

Exactly, GandTea. As I said in another post, the Commissioners are terrified of contagion. Let's hope wit won't be too messy and vindictive on the part of the EU, but i'm not holding my breath...sad

GandTea Wed 29-Jun-16 11:43:07

No way will there be a second referendum. DC did the only thing he could do after the country gave him a vote of no confidence, resign and let someone with the will to remain take over and see this mess, that the British people have voted us into, through.

The EU just want us out asap and on their terms.

Tegan Wed 29-Jun-16 11:30:52

It's only by signing useless petitions that makes me feel that I have any say in the future of this country.

Luckygirl Wed 29-Jun-16 08:50:39

Someone sent me a link to a 2nd referendum parliament petition that did not make sense - no detail on it and a meaningless title.

The idea that after all this we could somehow find ourselves back in/still in the EU is fanciful. The EU has had us carping on the sidelines for decades and are not likely to treat us well in that instance.

Liberals and Democrats press conference after today's EU meeting. Perhaps hoping for rethink? Tim Farron speaks.

Despite 4 million being 11% of the 44,722,000 on the electoral roll. Nearly four times the percentage majority.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 23:11:19

Just don't invoke that bloody clause yet.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 23:10:23

He needs his mind changed.

Elegran Tue 28-Jun-16 23:09:33

DC has ruled it out.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 23:04:59

There must be a second referendum.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 23:03:39

The PM could so easily put a halt to this. It's obvious the rest of them would be happy with that. But, no. He has to be "a democrat"! hmm Never mind about the fact he's leaving the country in a pile of crap! angry

bloody man.

durhamjen Tue 28-Jun-16 22:51:18

Over 4,000,000 signatures now on the petition for a second referendum.

Sell off of Land Registry? Good grief.
But having said that, it used to be as near 100% accurate as it seemed possible to be. It hasn't been in the last few years. I dont know why.

obieone Tue 28-Jun-16 20:55:32

post to whitewave

obieone Tue 28-Jun-16 20:55:01

Am I totally misreading your post?

durhamjen Tue 28-Jun-16 20:54:37

While Brexit is still taking all the headlines, along with Corbyn, there is still a lot of stuff happening in parliament.

On Thursday, there will be a debate about the sell off of landregistry.
There is a 38degrees petition and they also want you to contact your MP to ask them to be there and vote against it.

obieone Tue 28-Jun-16 20:53:39

whitewave, that isnt such a bad idea.

You, or both of us if you wanted to choose that, could try mention that, but I am not so sure it would work, as people dont stop posting on the plimsoll threads?!

Unless you are meaning nationally, in which case, I am not up for that.
