It is obvious that not everyone who voted Leave is racist. Unfortunately, it is equally obvious that a lot of them are, and that - perhaps even worse - the vote has encouraged a lot of blatant racism, aimed not only at EU immigrants but at anyone from an ethnic minority. There have been a large number of instances of racist abuse and threats reported since the vote was announced.
It is not only we on the hysterical left who feel this way. Sayeeda Warsi, former chair of the Tory party and a prominent supporter of the Leave campaign until she quit over the racist tone of the campaign, said "This kind of nudge-nudge, wink-wink xenophobic racist campaign may be politically savvy or useful in the short term but it causes long term damage to communities." Sadly, very true.
