As the hysterical left weep into their lattes...

Well said, Libby Purves and Peter Tatchell! Tatchell is quoted as saying "The left must listen to Brexit supporters and their concerns. Very wrong to dismiss them all as racists and xenophobes". Of those anguished 'hysterical lefties': "many of them mean well [ouch!] yet elitism erupted like a poisoned boil". Superb!

Elitism. The other thing the hysterical left whine about when they're not too busy calling anyone who doesn't agree with them a bigot. Yes. Quite. In spite of my high level of education, and my husband's, we both "get it" in a way that many with similar backgrounds don't seem to. Perhaps we still feel a connect to those of our families who were at the runt end of society only two generations ago. Perhaps we understand better the effect of "arrogant, incompetent Brussels institutions, and the decades when governments neglected inequality".

Purves does not skim over actual racism at all, but she says quite rightly that the vast majority of people are not racists or xenophobes. She's right.

Thank you, Libby Purves.

There are good witches and very bad ones.

Good witches work for good- bad for ... bad. Now if there is one bad witch here... than it could be the one constantly stirring trouble and nastiness.

DJ, I have a field and garden full of herbs and make lots of wonderful potions too.

Not all leavers are racists but all racists are leavers. This has been said so many times.

Geldof flipped his fingers at the fishermen's boat. Not the brightest thing to do. But then........

His heart's in the right place.

I saw a great cartoon yesterday on FB- God and St Peter up there in the clouds looking down at the earth, and God says to the St Peter 'I never thought I'd see the day when I prefer those who don't believe in me'

Jingl- like everything, you need to learn what's what - I am a wild mushroom expert too- been learning ever since I was a small child. What herb can be used for what, and combination.

Learning something new every day. Reminds me, must try ground ivy as a veg- apparently it's delicious- and due to my knee op, I wasn't able to weed in time. It's actually quite pretty among the perennials.

A witch though, no ;)

We recently bought a jar of ivy honey for the first time. Very nice too.

What is with these accusations of being a witch obieone??
I am sure they don't feature in the Bible.

Beammeupscottie Tue 28-Jun-16 10:56:53

Give me Harry Potter over the Bible any day.

obieone Tue 28-Jun-16 11:02:31

Google "witches and Bible" Alea, and you will see they very much feature.

obieone Tue 28-Jun-16 11:05:32

GNHQ - I cant see anything wrong via your forum guidelines, about asking people if they are witches.

As you can see, I didnt bring the subject up, and people seem to think there is nothing wrong in being a witch.

I will take a look at my gransnet inbox to see what you may have emailed me.

obieone Tue 28-Jun-16 11:15:33

The message form GNHQ was very polite. I told them I understand.

Because I've seen comments on this thread about personal remarks or insults by Libby Purves in the article I posted a link to, I went back to it this morning and read it again. I couldn't find a single personal remark. She quoted what some individuals said or did, e.g. about Alexa Chung, among others, tweeting a broken heart emoji, and it seemed clear that she thought that kind of melodrama OTT, but she did not direct any of her very general remarks at individuals.

Just thought this point had better be out there.

Elegran Tue 28-Jun-16 11:53:01

There is always a lot of confusion in people's minds between generalities and personal insults. stepping back and reading with an open mind is difficult when everyone is feeling raw, but is more necessary than ever when everything is in such a mess.

Alea Tue 28-Jun-16 12:01:50

Asking and telling can be two different things, the message was clear enough.

granjura Tue 28-Jun-16 12:46:30

I won't google 'witches and the Bible, right now thanks.

For me, it is not an insult, at all- being a withc.

But I am sure, and reading the above would probably confirm- that in obione's mind it surely was an insult. And as such, yes, she did use the word witch first, and with negative and deorgatory intent. So throwing hands up in the air, shouting 'I am innocent' jut doesn't cut the mustard- although I would personally not have complained to HQ- probably no-one did, but HQ saw this for what it was, a clear derogatory insult.

Signing off now- as this forum has just become so vitriolic and so unpleasant in such a underhand way- just do not wish to be part of this at all.

Brexit is enough to cope with on its own.

obieone Tue 28-Jun-16 13:15:51

Everyone can read granjura. The word witch was said by at least 2 people before me, one of which was yourself!

And since you said that witches can be good or bad,as people can also see, and I knew from that that you would not consider the word an insult, which I was correct, I commented in a nice way that you are one. All of which was seen.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 13:35:05

Yes. I get polite emails from them. They usually get snotty ones back.

I wish I could find the interesting norty posts on this thread. [confusd]

I guess they are hidden in amongst all the surplus words.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 13:40:41

I kiddd my GS for years hat I was a witch. He really believed me!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 13:41:10

Shut up jenty!

Lazigirl Tue 28-Jun-16 13:54:51

How did this thread get from Libby Purves and lattes to witches? Is it a secret game for a few select Gransnetters, like Mornington Crescent which used to be on Radio 4 and which I never understood?

Beammeupscottie Tue 28-Jun-16 13:58:20

I think is is possible to ill-wish. I think the English Football team were so bad last night because of all the palpable ill-feeling being directed at them. I

Alea Tue 28-Jun-16 13:58:40

Rapturous applause !!!
