Are Gransnetters just vicious online trolls?

Well, we are apparently a bunch of bullies on this site:

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3689188/The-vicious-online-trolls-grannies-according-fellow-gran-crossed-unleashed-spite.html

Some poor innocent (who is media savvy enough to get an article published in a national newspaper) is in a state of shock after posting on Gransnet. A whole page in DM basically complaining that she posted on an internet forum and is shocked that not everyone found her as witty and amusing as she clearly thinks she is.

Shame on you grannies for upsetting the poor little flower! On the bright side though, she did manage to get her article published, so that was probably a nice little earner for her.grin

Sadly I have to report that I was contacted by a regular poster about something jings had posted. I was very surprised. I hadn't read the posts that this person was so unhappy about and I'd not been on the forum for a day or two and the thread seemed to have slipped off the active list. I didn't do more than try to reassure the person that jings was most likely just being jings and not to resign from GN. I think she's gone now which is sad. I didn't think it was like this person at all and was actually concerned for her. A bad day? A fit of pique? I don't know.

Ana Fri 15-Jul-16 12:25:06

I think it was very unfair of you to name jingl in your 'report' Jane10. Couldn't you just have said 'another poster'? Not sure what point you're trying to make...

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 12:27:52

sunseeker shock ! They print all my comments in the Times.

Thanks Ana. smile

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 12:30:37

I get sick of people threatening to leave because of me.

Sometimes I think I should put it to the vote. "Should she leave or should she stay?"

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 12:31:05

Don't anyon say a word! shock

Gononsuch Fri 15-Jul-16 12:35:33

jinglbellsfrocks

Why don't you just change your name like a lot of others.

I don't know what to, does anybody else ? smile

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 12:37:01

I wouldn't dream of changing my name! I wouldn't ever do that!

Shut up bags.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 12:37:44

Anyway, would you want to lose a name like mine? hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 12:38:02

wink

merlotgran Fri 15-Jul-16 12:38:23

grin

Maggiemaybe Fri 15-Jul-16 13:06:14

I think Jane10 is just referring to jingl's own earlier revelation that there was a recent concerted effort to get rid of her, Ana.

I can't do with all this behind the scenes, playground bullying stuff. Anything that needs saying should be said out in the open, imho, unless it's positive and supportive.

Nobody has ever tried to embroil me in a clique - I thought they were just a figment of fevered imaginations. Neither have I had any private messages on here from Nigerian politicians wanting to send millions to my account, or from granny fanciers.

I'm either very unpopular or very lucky smile

Jane10 Fri 15-Jul-16 13:15:06

I was only referring to Jings having brought this up in the first place. The person who contacted me is who seems to have resigned unless she's just changed her name? I don't know.

NanaandGrampy Fri 15-Jul-16 13:19:17

Playing devils advocate Jings if you ' get sick of people threatening to leave because of me ' maybe you could ask yourself if ' it's all these people' who are thin skinned or you who is , on occasion , too abrasive ?

Just a thought smile

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 13:19:52

Just seen about Nice again on the news. Shall we close this thread now? None of it really matters does it. sad

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 15-Jul-16 13:22:59

And I mean none of it. Not just the bit about me. It's all trivial.

jollyg Fri 15-Jul-16 13:43:00

Its about time posters here got a grip of copyright law as pertaining to uI might clear up a few miscoceptions, and perhaps some stupidly held deas

Stansgran Fri 15-Jul-16 13:45:14

A pinch of salt and vinegar comes to mind.
Today's daily mail is tomorrow's chip paper
I think the original blogger was manipulative in I believe she had set out to make snide remarks about the Royals and Middletons with the hopeful intent of having loads of grannies who obviously are all Royalists with Union Jack mugs and flags in the window protesting at the lese majesté. Then she could have a crow about stereo types but was upset because really we weren't impressed by her literary style or her wit or her sense of humour.
There must be an Old Crones Agency which specialises in that sort of photo. They made me feel extremely glamourous when I saw them even thoughI need to go to the hairdresser and I've run out of clean clothes at the cottage.
Jinglebf the moment we end a thread because a silly women tries to make money out of Gransnetters opinions and because of a thick brainwashed Muslim then they've both silenced decent people in their own special way.

grannylyn65 Fri 15-Jul-16 13:49:36

Jings is jings, deal with it !!!grin

Nelliemoser Fri 15-Jul-16 14:39:07

Anya Thank you! I didn't catch any of the OP.
I also felt it was too personal and nasty to be funny.
Thank goodness you lot stood up against this.

If a poster wants to make such nasty posts do not complain when they are not appreciated.

I would say it almost evokes the behaviour of those creatures who live under bridges.

kittylester Fri 15-Jul-16 14:49:08

I agree with grannylyn. Jings is jings, in my view there are worse posters!

When I joined a couple of years ago, I got a few PM's from people re a problem I had, and they were so kind. I may be naïve, but it hadn't occurred to me they would be used to 'gang up' on someone. GNHQ is there to administrate. And I suppose if a 'single' poster has a valid grievance, fair enough. I know what happened, and I know why it became such an issue but I refused to take part, as I defend the right to speak freely on here if site rules aren't broken. Sometimes a smack on the wrist, doesn't go amiss; but no 'behind the scenes' ganging up. It causes mistrust throughout the site too. Not a good thing. Who wants to think people are talking behind their backs.

Jane10 Fri 15-Jul-16 15:51:01

It was the first time I was ever approached or even heard about anything like that. She's left now so I suspect it won't happen again. Hope not.

TriciaF Fri 15-Jul-16 16:11:30

Good post breeze.
"...no behind the scenes gangingup. It causes mistrust throughout the site too."
Exactly - you begin to suspect everyone, and hope they don't suspect you.

breeze Fri 15-Jul-16 16:16:12

Obviously more than one Jane10. The person jumped into defence of another and both are still around as far as I know. I do like both of them and I also like Jings, even though we had a spat. Sorry Ana but Jings brought it up herself that she'd been put on the 'Norty step' did she think no one would ask? Let's hope PM's aren't used for that in future. If you've got a problem, go to GNHQ. Or just argue your point on the site. Leave the PM's for what they're meant for, some kind words, reassurance, or when you don't want to hijack someone's thread.

durhamjen Fri 15-Jul-16 16:37:17

Thanks for all your good wishes, and the gentle hug, jings.
What I'd like to know is about all these people who leave because of you, jings; where do they go to find like-minded people?

By the way, did our witches coven count as a clique? I thought it was only good vibes, lots of herbal remedies.
