Did you actually read the link about the Sun, washerwoman?
That's bigoted.

Brexit watch, round 2
(1001 Posts)Jalima Some people are having difficulty understanding that the remain camp lost the vote. They failed. They lost. They came second.
Have you read the article, washerwoman? You should, if you want to find the definition of 'hypocritical'.
I guess there could be some exceptions to the mass Sun deportation programme, smileless (just don't let anybody in Liverpool know
).
As one of the posters after the article said, the best thing to do is stop your Sky subscription.
On M ONDAY, i went into a shop just to buy the i.
The cashier asked me if I wanted a free copy of the Sun. I asked why I would want one, and she just looked puzzled, as if nobody rejects anything if it's free.
Good grief! So they can't even give it away? I'm not even sure it should be classified as a newspaper. Apparently readers only need a vocabulary of 500 words.
There are newsagents in Liverpool who still won't sell it since its reporting about Hillsborough.
Why am I being bigoted and hypocritical? Have you read the article? That's the definition of bigoted and hypocritical. I'm quite happy to live in a country without bigots and hypocrites (and dimwits). I've never claimed otherwise, so I'm not being hypocritical.
I was offered a copy of the Sun free in the newsagents the other week.
I said 'no thanks, not even to wrap the rubbish in, DS supports Liverpool FC'
Yes I did read the article.I hate the tone of it,I don't like the paper at all,I would reject the offer of a free copy -but by politely saying 'no thank you'.DDs partner is a huge Liverpool fan,and they live there and I completely understand why the paper is reviled in that city.I'm very guilty myself over the years of judging quietly someone when I see them with a copy.DMIL used to take the Daily Mail and I dont care for that much either. She was a lovely MIL.
However, like Smileless,I can think of plenty of times when the person with the Sun has been a perfectly reasonable and decent human being ,not pond life.Maybe different in many ways to me.The patients I looked after who had a copy at the end of the bed.But the guy who services my car ,the people that worked in DHs depot, office and warehouse for years who were funny, loyal and who would help out anyone at the drop of a hat.And they lived and worked in an area of much higher immigration than most people on this thread experienced then, and probably now, and worked alongside colleagues from a very diverse background.
It's the sweeping statement that ALL Sun readers should be deported I find hypocritical .Who else would you like to deport? All leave voters I guess.Anyone who doesn't read the Guardian .It's your disdain for whole swathes of this countries population that seeps out of your posts that I really dislike. You have a very high regard for Germany and all things German, and European it seems. Thanks to freedom of speech in those countries they all have their equivalent of the Sun and the Guardian papers no doubt.
Maybe I just get and about more with my business and, instead of finding endless links from one section of the media that fit my own agenda actually chat face to face with real people. Many of whom won't share my views or read the same paper.Unless they are violent criminals, people traffickers or known terrorists I've no reason to wish them deported from this wonderfully diverse country. Now I've got a busy day,and later on down at our local food festival. Will be packed with all sorts of folk.Probably even the odd Sun reader in the crowd.
The link was about the fact that previously the Sun had been complaining about expats being sent back to the UK and now saying that we can't kick out 3 million EU migrants.
That's hypocritical.
I think DD was joking. Even I could see that, although I am often accused of having a humour bypass.
MEANWHILE in the world of Brexit, the CEO of Nissan has said that they will not be investing any more money in the UK until they know the shape of the Brexit deal with the EU.
We were warned before Brexit.
Washerwoman, I hope that little rant has set you up for the rest of the day.
Of course I was joking. Unlike the Home Office, I don't have thousands of police and Border Force staff at my disposal to enforce deportations.
As you don't like people all being tarred with the same brush, here are just a few people, the Sun has insulted...
www.kirkbytimes.co.uk/news_items/2004_news/scum_history.html
The Sun writes the stuff it does, because it knows that its readers want to read it. It reinforces their bigotry and hypocrisy.
You assume too much, washerwoman.
Washerwoman. well said. Seeing as the brexit bashing thread is gasping it's last breath, the Sun is filling that space.
www.thecanary.co/2016/08/04/dwp-worker-calls-mum-three-scrounging-bstard-shocking-answerphone-message/
Would this have happened prebrexit?
Hope the DWP person gets sacked and has to find out about life from the other side of the counter.
It's papers like the Sun which encourage such bigotry.
Are you a Sun reader, petra?
Gasping its last breath?
The brexit effect is only just beginning. It's possible that you just ignore the effect as in an I'm alright Jack fashion, Petra.
I've put two examples on already today.

Not forgetting this, of course.
BREXIT will be with us for years. There isn't even any agreement about what it implies amongst the people who voted nor amongst politicians. Even when people have made up their minds, it will be years before we know if the plan is deliverable.
Gasping its last breath? I don't think so!
DD and DJ you might find these threads more interesting. This is number twelve!

I've been following it, Mamie
. It's hilarious and so true. I'm wondering when the film will be out and who will be playing the leading characters. I don't think even the most inventive writer could have dreamed it all up.
They are brilliant. So erudite and witty!
Thanks mamie so good and what a breath of fresh air after some stuff I have been reading!
I don't think washerwoman's post was a rant, it sounded reasonable to me.
And I also realise your post was 'tongue-in-cheek' daphnedil
Even so there does seem to be an underlying sense of disdain amongst some posters about some of their fellow citizens. We all surely realise there is just as much (if not more) bigotry in Europe and that it is not unique to the UK.
Mamie very funny. I wonder if all those mumsnetters who said they were going to vote for Brexit are following it.
Strangely enough most of those Brexit Mumsnet posters who dominated the threads nearly all disappeared straight after the result. Spooky that!
Yes, Jalima, I do regard people who can buy a so-called newspaper which publishes cr*p with disdain. Remember 'Hop off you frogs!', 'Freddy Starr ate my hamster', THE TRUTH about Hillsborough, describing Frank Bruno as 'bonkers' and a 'nut' who had been 'locked up' and all the snide xenophobic and 'leftie' comments?
Murdoch is a billionaire who provides dumbed down news. The hypocrisy about 'booting out' three million EU citizens while moaning that British ex-pats might be sent back from EU countries is breathtaking.
Today's online version has an article about the American tourist who was murdered in London. However, the picture which accompanies the article and is much bigger than the one of the victim is of bikini-clad and attractive witness. What does that tell you?
@Mamie
A couple of Gransnet Brexiteers disappeared too.
dj, I saw the Nissan story on the BBC website this morning. Despite the spin on it it seemed to say very clearly that if the UK leaves the EU Nissan are out of here. How we are going to replace 6,700 jobs in the NE is a mystery to me.
WRT washerwoman's post I would say that I am always
at the way some posters feel they are entitled to tell other posters how to behave...and then call for tolerance...
@MaizieD
There are about 30,000 jobs in the Nissan supply chain, mainly in the North East. The Japanese equivalent of the Department for Commerce has also advised other Japanese companies considering investing in the UK to change their plans.
