Traingate

The silliest thing about the Corbyn "Traingate" fiasco is that before the railways were privatised, I often had to sit on the floor toing and froing between Preston and Edinburgh. Sometimes there was no buffet car. And the toilets were often disgusting.

I guess Corbyn didn't travel by train much back then hmm

However, the trains I travelled on usually had more space for luggage than current Virgin trains.

Jalima, I have never started a pro Blair thread, I have always said I would have voted for Brown if he and Blair had stood for leader. I have listed the good done by a labour government whilst Blair was PM when some alleged Labour Party supporters are proud to state they didn't vote for labour when Blair was leader , I did and I Certsintly do not regret if

Pollengran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:22:44

You have caught me out Jalima, I am not Theresa May smile. I assume anyone who is not a Corbyn supporter must be a Blairite. It seems obvious to me.

obieone Wed 24-Aug-16 10:22:18

What IS this Momentum?

Another gransnet left-wing poster trying to distance themselves from Momentum.

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 10:21:18

Gracesgran, you said this has nothing to do with trains, it is about trains, privatising trains, filming a false account of a train journey etc. If he hadn't tried and failed with that false account we would not have this thread . Not an attack on Corbyn, no different to criticising lies by other politician, it's the lie I am angry about and what makes it even more hypocritical is he is standing on the honest politician pedestal, not a good example to his young followers who will not question the fact that it was a PR stunt which failed

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 10:11:23

I didn't put the CCTV footage on here myself, djen, I put a link to the BBC. I don't have access personally to the CCTV footage, only to the BBC website.

Pollengran I think it is fairly obvious from your posts that you are not Theresa May, please don't worry that we will get you mixed up, like her or not I would always say that she is eloquent and well-mannered and seems to have what is termed a gsoh.

Can't find any pro-Blair thread or posts by anniebach btw

Gracesgran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:09:15

prejudiced not prejudicial - my computer seems to want to write my posts as well as Annie ... conspiracyshock

You are so prejudicial (and rude) in your views Annie. What, in my post, showed me accepting a lie!

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 09:43:33

Best Momentum sticks to organising rallies and leave film making and amateur dramatics to others

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 09:39:39

How can a'wanna be' be made redundant ? A person can be a 'wanna be' for as long as they wish .

thatbags Wed 24-Aug-16 09:36:22

elegran, we'll have our media stunt all planned out for next time. Think of the publicity for Gransnet! We'll be fêted for whole minutes!

Elegran Wed 24-Aug-16 09:34:16

"One" is redundant. The one in that post, I mean. Well, also, lots of us are redundant or soon will be, including wannabe PMs.

nigglynellie Wed 24-Aug-16 09:33:42

At the risk of being repetitive, knowing how crowded trains can be, book a couple of corresponding seats to avoid disappointment!!!! fairly elementary I'd have thought?!! Otherwise accept as most of us do, that you may have to travel separately, it's not that big a deal for grown up people!!

Beammeupscottie Wed 24-Aug-16 09:32:23

Ah, but it goes to prove the man is a "whited sepulchre".
You can't preach "clean" politics then pull a stunt like his! Credibility goes off the lines.

Elegran Wed 24-Aug-16 09:31:41

Thatbags We missed our chance in Fife - should have photographed three forlorn Grans waiting on a deserted station platform somewhere in the back of beyond for a train going somewhere off our route to hope it connected with one another going to our destination. We could have made the headlines!

thatbags Wed 24-Aug-16 09:30:42

gaga, re ram-packed, maybe he was a sheep farmer in a previous life.

Elegran Wed 24-Aug-16 09:27:13

What a lot of hot air heated discussion about a fabricated non-story!

NonnaW Wed 24-Aug-16 09:23:47

What? He wanted to sit by his wife so he made her sit on the floor with him? My DH would always wish to sit with me but being a gentleman, would insist I sat in any empty seat and he would then sort himself out, either sitting elsewhere, standing or sitting on floor.

DaphneBroon Wed 24-Aug-16 09:23:03

So I googled "ram- packed" and it automatically offered me "jam-packed" and "ram-packed" did not come up as a synonym. Fair enough, that was only one online dictionary, but insisting on "ram pack" got me this

www.yourdictionary.com/ram-pack

confused
I understand "rammed full" even with the mental image of the Tokyo Underground which it conjures up, but think "jammed full" is more usual. We have "traffic jams" not "Rams" that is something else.

Beammeupscottie Wed 24-Aug-16 09:22:30

I'm not surprised the Guardian were in on it.
I really think it is pathetic to have to manufacture news,

Beammeupscottie Wed 24-Aug-16 09:17:22

Apparently, he just wanted to sit by Laura, his wife. I'm welling up, I'm welling up!

nigglynellie Wed 24-Aug-16 09:09:36

Jam packed - I think!

nigglynellie Wed 24-Aug-16 09:08:32

You have to book a seat on an areoplane so why not a train?! Yes of course there are odd occasions when you might have to travel with little or no notice, but I don't think this was one of them!!!!! People have been reserving seats for donkeys years - my mother always did when she visited us in Cornwall back in the 1960's. Anyone and everyone can do this, it's not for the privileged few. I think even the most ardent J.C supporter is going to have to admit that this was either a stunt or complete stupidity! What George Osbourne did was downright deceitful and indefensible, and as a Tory I'm perfectly willing to admit that, perhaps J.C supporters can be honest enough to do the same.

NonnaW Wed 24-Aug-16 09:06:27

thatbags smile nice one.

nightowl Wed 24-Aug-16 09:04:14

'Rammed' meaning full is a common expression. Certainly my DC use it all the time. Don't know why I'm even contributing, this thread is becoming more surreal by the minute. Grans with too much time on our hands perhaps? I'm off to work now, thank goodness.
