Traingate

The silliest thing about the Corbyn "Traingate" fiasco is that before the railways were privatised, I often had to sit on the floor toing and froing between Preston and Edinburgh. Sometimes there was no buffet car. And the toilets were often disgusting.

I guess Corbyn didn't travel by train much back then hmm

However, the trains I travelled on usually had more space for luggage than current Virgin trains.

I spent a lot of my early life being laughed at for the way I spoke. Maybe that's why I have sympathy for Prescott. He did alright for himself, despite that.

Anniebach Mon 29-Aug-16 20:44:38

I admire John Prescott, it takes courage to put up with the ridicule and put downs because one is not able to speak eloquently, yet he did put up with it because he was dedicated to his political beliefs and his party

durhamjen Mon 29-Aug-16 20:44:02

My sister's house in Hull was part of a pathfinder scheme, actually in Prescott's constituency.
All the preliminary work had been done, the builder had been chosen for the street, they'd had meetings and a timetable was drawn up.
Then in 2010 there was a change of government and the money was withdrawn from the council. Sorry, but that cannot be blamed on Prescott.

Jalima Mon 29-Aug-16 20:40:48

I should plant another buddleia as mine split and died.

Jalima Mon 29-Aug-16 20:39:48

djen we only seemed to have a few cabbage whites this year - until recently when I saw a couple of tortoiseshells.
Then - the other day, I am sure I saw a blue butterfly when I was walking beside a country river. I thought I had imagined it, but I'm sure I didn't! It may have been a common blue.

sorry, I digress

Jalima Mon 29-Aug-16 20:34:10

I wanted Prescott to be leader, shock he who cannot string a sentence together coherently?

(I may not be able to do so either, but I am not Deputy Leader of HM Government.)

He whose pronouncements on housing, bungalows in particular, has caused so many of the problems with older people downsizing thus enabling younger people to move up the housing ladder? He who was in charge of the disastrous Pathfinder project?

He who (oh, never mind, I will not gossip).

I am not speechless, but should be!!!

durhamjen Mon 29-Aug-16 20:31:09

Yes, I just watched it, Jalima. Good, wasn't it?
I don't do butterfly walks usually. I sit on my wall and watch them on the buddleia. Although if I am walking the railway track, I will take a camera and take photos as well as counting them.
I have noticed a lot fewer this year compared to the last two.
That's what I was doing this afternoon. Two painted ladies and two peacock butterflies but just one small tortoiseshell. Normally I count those in the twenties, but this year the most I saw at any one time was six.
Then I deadheaded the buddleia to encourage the smaller flowers to bloom, just in case there are more out next month.

Yes, I read something online about Sam Tarry today - a rather dodgy character with two homes and three jobs, allegedly.

POGS Mon 29-Aug-16 20:29:20

Nightowl

Thank. you for your reply.

May I respectfully ask a question from a poster I have respect for.

You say that you will remain if Corbyn loses to fight for the Labour Party to accept there can be different shades of leftism within the party and all work together. How do you feel about the voices that are calling for deselection of Labour MP's who have served the Labour Party well for years yet now have fallen foul of the Corbyn Team?

Jalima Mon 29-Aug-16 20:28:53

By the way, Virgin are now saying thankyou to Corbyn for pointing out that they need more seats on trains and more trains. As if they didn't know!

grin love it, subtly sarcastic!

Jalima Mon 29-Aug-16 20:26:06

POGS, it wasn't a stunt. He did actually need to get from London to Newcastle that day, and it was on a crowded train.
he probably did, but it is a pity that the people who advise him decided to go for this silly stunt - and then try to tell people that Jeremy was tired at the end of a long day. It was 11 am.
I think it was Sam Tarry, the sooner Jeremy stops taking advice from this young man who appears to be a master of spin the better.

Jalima Mon 29-Aug-16 20:20:47

djen good news, the brown fritillary and the British blue butterfly are back from the brink!! smile

DaphneBroon Mon 29-Aug-16 19:28:46

This is very sad, but your point is unclear?

Beammeupscottie Mon 29-Aug-16 19:00:54

I now read Ed Balls to sharpening his knife for Corbyn's back.

Et Tu Balls

Infamy. infamy, They're all got it in for me.

Anniebach Mon 29-Aug-16 18:04:58

Trisher, when you criticise the poster eho called me a liar and accused me of using foul language I will accept your request as a genuine request

trisher Mon 29-Aug-16 18:02:21

Anniebach as you refused to answer my request about which Labour party policies you agreed with I don't think you can critcise anyone for avoiding questions. By all means withhold information if you want to, but allow others the same privilege please.
Your condemnation of all Corbyn supporters is as divisive as any of the other things you have mentioned. So you are making your own contribution to the destruction of the party. Instead of constantly calling them names could you not take the time to find some level of agreement? Cooperation has always been a feature of the Labour movement, it would be good to see some.

Anniebach Mon 29-Aug-16 17:13:55

I voted for M argaret Becket

I said when we have a general election I will vote fir the Labour Party - if it still exists ,

durhamjen Mon 29-Aug-16 17:03:41

I did not need to vote for Blair to support the minimum wage, etc.
The Green Party supported those.
I also knew four other people, two of whom voted Tory and two who were liberal, who also voted for Blair.
I didn't vote for Blair to be leader. Coming from Hull, and living in Hull at the time, I wanted Prescott to be leader, as I liked his politics.
I voted Labour in 1997 to get rid of the Tories, which is what you, Annie, should be trying to do now.
You voted for Corbyn a year ago. Politics shouldn't work like a school council - I voted for you to lead last year but changed my mind three months later so want you out.

Which of these do you not like?

nightowl Mon 29-Aug-16 15:03:28

POGS as someone who has recently joined the Labour Party I will answer your question as to what I will do should JC lose the leadership contest. I will remain a member and will continue to fight for the party to rediscover its roots and move away from the centre ground. I will fight for it to once again become a socialist party with socialist principles. It needs to be proud of its left wing values and stop trying to emulate the Conservative party - voters need and want a true choice of where to place their vote.

At the same time, I will fight for it to accept that there can be different shades of left-ism within the party and that all can work together, those further to the left and those of more moderate views. I support the right of the NEC (a truly balanced NEC) to vet applications and ban those whose allegiance is not to the party, for whatever reasons. That does not, IMO, mean that people should never have the right to reapply in the future when their views may have changed.

Anniebach Mon 29-Aug-16 14:25:54

Thank you Rosesarered, the double standards by some Corbyn fans are so playground gang level. I will agree or disagree depending on my opinions ,

rosesarered Mon 29-Aug-16 14:15:24

Neither does ab

rosesarered Mon 29-Aug-16 14:14:26

There seems to be an assumption by one or two posters on here, that because several posters ( maybe more) are either ( shock, horror) Brexiters or/and non Labour supporters, that somehow ab shouldn't be replying to any of the posts, and that she should stick to 'her own kind'......am I missing something here?
We all have different views on things, politics and other subjects, and I for one will give my honest opinion , either agreeing/disagreeing with anyone at all, I don't have to 'get on with them' for that to happen.

Anniebach Mon 29-Aug-16 14:10:12

And I will never vote for Corbyn as leader but if he is leader st the next election I will vote Labour, in full knowledge that we lose . Unlike you I am loyal to the Labour Party Jen, pity you were and are not

Anniebach Mon 29-Aug-16 14:05:26

You have not given your opinions on the three I mentioned .

You didn't support the minimum wage etc because you wouldn't vote whilst Blair was party leader because you knew he wasn't a socialist . yet you have the damn nerve to condemn me for not supporting Corbyn because he is a trot and accuse me of not supporting the party
