Traingate

The silliest thing about the Corbyn "Traingate" fiasco is that before the railways were privatised, I often had to sit on the floor toing and froing between Preston and Edinburgh. Sometimes there was no buffet car. And the toilets were often disgusting.

I guess Corbyn didn't travel by train much back then hmm

However, the trains I travelled on usually had more space for luggage than current Virgin trains.

Cutting a long story short, in 2013 - 2014 Railway expenditure was £12.7bn and income was £13.3bn.

£3.8bn came from the government i.e. taxpayers.
Passengers paid £9.0bn and there was £0.5bn from other sources.
I've worked in nationalised industries and they do generate a huge amount of waste.

I hope my sums are correct. Now, I need to lie down in a darkened room...

Click on 'related documents' >who pays for Britain's railways for the flow diagram. It's a dog.

It's not a dog, it's a pdf.... (Kindle)

Aggressive? Where aggressive?

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 18:46:59

Momentum have started on Welsh Labour, two MP's and some of Caerwens staff hsve been warned they are out if they don't start supporting Corbyn, someone should tell this Mafia rabble Westminster has no power over staff in the Senydd . Wales has remained out of this circus , we have our leader of Welsh Labour . Caerwen has not spoken fir Corbyn or Smith , Smith respects this, not the truthful one it seems

obieone Wed 24-Aug-16 18:53:16

ho wouldbe running Momentum? The one who pays the money - Jon Landsman? Or John McDonnell? Or JC? Or someone else? Who is the boss of it?

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 19:22:40

When the train came in, there was no coach F
[gasp] was it like room 101

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 19:27:35

Corbyn said this morning there were no seats for him and his team, surely a group travelling together to an organised event and wanting to sit together to discuss the event would have thought of booking seats in advance , they can arrange rallies in the O2 and around the country but not a train journey
I think several of us have made that point anniebach, and pointed out that we did (and do) the same, especially when working!
It does make you wonder how disorganised and inefficient he and his team would be if they were in charge of a country when they can't sort out seats for themselves on a train shock

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 19:32:13

Annie, you are getting more and more ridiculous.
Actually, I don't think she is. She was stating facts in the previous post to your remark djen.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them ridiculous - or stupid or silly (allegations against other posters on other threads btw, not on this one, so far).

We can't all agree on everything all the time. That is not democracy. We can't all like or agree with the same politicians either.

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 19:35:28

Can't imagine what you would say if he'd sat on the floor all the way to Newcastle.
Corbynsaur arse us?

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 20:16:33

Knowing there were empty seats when he got on the train if he had sat on the floor fir the full journey I would say stupid sod

phoenix Wed 24-Aug-16 20:27:05

I used to do a lot of train travel in a previous job, and often with a colleague. We ALWAYS pre booked, and when you do that, you automatically get a seat reservation at no extra cost.

Total stunt.

nightowl Wed 24-Aug-16 20:34:09

This thread is so funny. I've been to work and come home to find it's stretched to 9 pages, all about a non event. It's just incredible that so many words can be used to say so little about nothing much at all.

obieone Wed 24-Aug-16 20:37:36

A non event when the leader of the biggest political opposition party in the country takes part in a fake event.

obieone Wed 24-Aug-16 20:44:19

I would hope that truth, no matter what job a person does, matters a great deal.

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 20:46:51

I cannot agree it's a non event nightowl, a man who wants to be leader of the party and then become PM lied to the country then follows it with losing his cool when wuestioned by the press , this is the man who claimed he wanted kinder , honest politics, what else has he lied about

One New Year's Eve a few years ago we were traveling from Manchester to Edinburgh with Virgin Trains. When the train arrived in Manchester( from Birmingham) passengers were crammed everywhere, Our reserved seats were taken and were not given up. There was no room to sit or stand anywhere. No passengers,Edinburgh bound, got on the train, off it went.Virgin were very apologetic and by some miracle managed to get us to Edinburgh, two hours late and three trains later.
I complained to Richard Branson and received a lovely letter explaining why the train was over crowded and he refunded our fare and gave us some vouchers. He was very apologetic and promised to look into why this had happened and tried to make sure it wouldn't happen again. At least he replied.

rubysong Wed 24-Aug-16 21:00:29

I steer clear of political threads but on the subject of sitting next to his wife I would just say DH and I flew to San Francisco a few weeks ago and our seats were nowhere near each other in either direction. We did not see this as a problem.

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 21:12:11

And he didn't mention wanting two seats together the morning he did his stunt and his spokesperson from momentum didn't mention two seats, she claimed there wasn't one spare seat, following day we hear his need to sit next to his wife, and some believe this waffle

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 21:31:57

What rubbish, helped his leadership bid my foot, it didn't need help, everyone knows he will win, just PR again.

Ana Wed 24-Aug-16 21:33:15

Well, they would say that, wouldn't they? grin

phoenix Wed 24-Aug-16 21:36:55

So why wasn't his wife sitting next to him on the floor, if proximity was so important?

phoenix Wed 24-Aug-16 21:38:06

Annie do you really think he will win? I'm not so sure!
